I love how nearly every joke in the movie is about the same thing -- the pointlessness of violence. If you watch _Monty Python and the Life of Brian,_ there the jokes are all about thinking for yourself and not getting swayed by authorities or mobs. And then there's _The Meaning of Life,_ where it's about how human bodies and body functions are always there no matter how hard people try to be dignified, and it gets a bit gross on more than one occasion.

@ftumschk 3 года назад
There seems to be an urban myth that those lines are full of meaning, but it's more likely they're just surreal insults with no hidden meaning at all. If they wanted to make out that Arthur's mother was promiscuous, then they'd have used the usual "rabbit" analogy, as in "she breeds like a rabbit" (I've never heard "hamster" being used in the same context). Elderberries are used to make the rather pleasant elderberry wine, which is associated with things like the Womens' Institute and church fêtes. They're also be used to make elderberry syrup, elderberry pies and tarts, so they're not exclusively associated with alcohol, let alone alcoholism. As it is, "hamster... elderberries" is in the same ballpark as "empty-headed animal food-trough wiper", "illegitimate-faced bugger-pope" and "I burst my pimples at you"... it's just straightforward silliness.

That was really only in the very early days, before multiple projector systems were invented. More recently movies would have intermissions if they were very long, say more than three hours. Your laugh is absolutely adorable, and I love your sense of humor. This is one of my favorite Monty Python movies, and I'm so happy that you like it as well. It's so much fun watching your reactions to the incredibly random jokes. I've seen other reactors who didn't find it funny at all. I much prefer to see the reactions of those who do. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing your next movie reaction.

So many great lines, they all could not be included in a 16 minute video. "What are you going to do? Bleed on me?" "It's not a matter of where 'e grips it, it's a matter of weight ratio! There's no way a five ounce bird can carry a three pound coconut!" "Didn't mean it? You killed the bride's father!" And from 'what else floats?': "very small rocks".

The coconut joke was born out of a necessity. The budget was too low to get real horses. Now it is one of the most iconic things about the movie. In Germany the title of the movie even is "Ritter der Kokusnuss" (Knights of the Coconut)

Also you'll notice the place they are on the bridge before and after the intermission are the same. You get up to go to the restroom but before you get out of the theater hall the film resumes... And no time had elapsed in the story during the intermission. They also began the film in theaters with a fake "wrong film" skit so people would think they went to the wrong one.

My kids grew up on it. When we had a minivan with a DVD player they would play it all the time. My wife never actually saw the movie until this past year. She always heard it from the front seat. Couple years back we were in Germany walking around a ruined castle and my kids and I automatically started using dialogue from Holy Grail. We cant help ourselves.
