When the ring slides onto Frodo’s finger at The Prancing Pony it looks unbelievable because it wasn’t a natural fall. The ring has a will of its own. It _wants_ to be found, so it controlled its descent onto Frodo’s finger so the ringwraiths would be drawn to it.

Also, Aragorn was supposed to dodge the knife the orc threw at him, but between the sweat and prosthetics slipping, the actor accidentally threw it straight at Viggo Mortensen's face instead of over him, and all Mortensen could think to do was swing the sword into it's path and knock it aside. It was pure luck that it worked, and even greater luck that it was caught on camera and NOTHING ELSE HAD GONE WRONG. As the coolest take, Jackson put it straight into the movie.

Something you must realize about the one ring is that it is alive. Sauron basically put a big chunk of his own soul into it and it can influence people and even choose to do some things, like falling off Isildur's finger or landing perfectly onto Frodo's finger. It even at time tries to force its own will on Frodo and make him put it on.

I really appreciate how you pay close attention to the little details, like noticing immediately that Elrond was present at the original battle against Sauron. Also, your voice is very pleasant to my ears. The Ring influences those who hold it to value it (hence "my precious"), and is strongest at the place of its forging. Isildur COULD NOT have destroyed it there, no matter how much he might have known he should. It wasn't a matter of his weakness; the Ring contains Sauron's overwhelming desire to dominate others, and Sauron is effectively a fallen archangel or perhaps an evil demigod.
@djokealtena2538
@djokealtena2538 3 года назад
The more powerful the person or ambitious/desire the more easily the ring will corrupt your mind. This is why Gandalf can't take it, he knows he'll try to do good, but will lose sight of what is right and fair. It is also why Hobbits seem to be better able to resist it since they are content with what they have. They don't have any big ambitious desires beyond perhaps introducing a third breakfast, enjoying the finest ale and having a merry party. This doesn't really give the Ring much to work with neither would it get it out of the Shire, since Hobbits rarely travel.

The ring is incredibly hard to destroy or part with because it's filled with the spirit of Sauron. This gives the ring a very strong will to survive and corrupt...which influences all who carry it. The longer you posses the ring, the more it corrupts you and the harder it is let it go. Humans are especially susceptible to this power, while creatures like Hobbits (who only tend to value food, drink, farming and family) are able to resist it.

The scenes in Bag End were filmed on two sets; one hobbit scale, one normal human size. These were then composited together resulting in the two characters in the same shot. The scenes at the table & in the cart were done by placing the actors playing the hobbits further away from the camera than Gandalf...a very simple effect known as forced perspective.

I love that you're doing this incredible trilogy!!! Now for some quick comments to assist you on this journey ;) So Hobbits live to be about 100 years or so and Bilbo went way past that due to the ring prolonging his life. It's also how the creature Gollum was able to stay alive for 500 years...because of the One Ring. Another thing to keep in mind is the power of the One Ring. Sauron's life force is tied to the One Ring and the ring is filled with malice, hate and evil. Isildur did not destroy the ring when given the chance because the ring had already ensnared him by taking advantage of Isildur's desire for power. The ring, in a way, compelled him to keep it. Like was mentioned in the opening prologue, the ring has a will of its own and does not want to be destroyed and will do what it can to corrupt those who have the ring so they never destroy it. Gandalf, being such a powerful wizard (or Maiar according to The Silmarillion book), is afraid that even holding the ring for a little bit might begin to corrupt him and have him wield his power for terrible deeds rather than good. It's why he refuses the ring from Frodo. Hobbits, naturally don't care for power or money. As a species they are quite content living a simple life. The ring can definitely corrupt Hobbits too but it will take longer for the ring to be able to corrupt them. They won't fall easily as a human would.

What’s interesting is that it’s heavily implied than many of the qualities that make the more formidable heroes of Lord of the Rings such noble and ‘epic’ figures are the exact same qualities that make them vulnerable to the ring. Equally noteworthy is that the person in the books who seems to show the greatest resistance to its power is Sam, who is the most humble and least ambitious or ‘formidable’ of them all.

Love your accent. Yes, regular humans, like in our world, lived mainly 70 - 80 years. Dunedain, such as Aragorn, had lifespans three times longer, so might live almost as long as a Dwarf. Dwarves lived about 250 years. They apparently had prolonged adolescence. Gimli said that he was thought too young to join Thorin's company (in the Hobbit), but at 62 felt he was ready to conquer the world. Hobbits were apt to live to about 100. Elves had essentially eternal youth. Orcs usually died young due to their culture, but having elven ancestry they might have the same potential lifespan.
@BFBMTb
@BFBMTb Год назад
The theory on the orcs is that they were elves that the first dark lord, morgoth (who sauron served), captured, tortured, and corrupted. Morgoth was a higher angelic being and the strongest one, and he wanted to be able to create life. But since he didn't have that power to create life, he instead corrupted beings. In the end though, he really just wanted to destroy the whole world, while sauron wanted to rule the world.

•500 years old is an unnatural lifespan for Hobbits and you see that Gollum lives for so long because of the Ring's corrupting power. Most races are mortal, but the Dwarves can live for 100-200 years. The Elves are immortal and there is a group of Men called the Dunedain who are blessed with longevity. •Hobbits live in the Shire. The Shire is a region, with Hobbiton being a town within it. Hobbits on average are 3ft 6inches, so keep that in mind before you buy a Hobbit hole. •Sauron's body was destroyed, but his spirit lives on because the Ring survived. •It's a tower. •Saruman fell to the Dark Side. Why is a mystery, but he will be the main villain for the first two films. •Hobbits eat 7 meals a day; Breakfast at 7:00, Second Breakfast at 9:00, Elevensies at 11:00, Luncheon at 1:00, Teatime at 3:00, Dinner at 6:00, and Supper at 9:00. •The Orcs bred by Saruman are the Uruk-hai and they are a force to be reckoned with.

I actually prefer the Theatrical Editions. It was fun to watch the Extended Editions for the extra scenes, but now whenever I rewatch LOTR I watch the Theatrical Editions. In my opinion, most of the added scenes, including the one you mention, aren't that important and they interrupt the flow of things. Also, the writing and acting in a lot of the added scenes is jarringly inferior. Other added scenes are too rushed and they feel like they've been crammed in. The Theatrical Editions are also extremely long already, and the even longer Extended Editions can be a bit of a drag, especially ROTK. To answer your question about Hobbit heights, the average Hobbit is 3'6 (107 cm), so they are very very small. That's actually the origin of one of their names "Halflings" since they're often less than half the height of humans.

You have to understand that the ring had a will of its own, and could trick and corrupt almost anyone who held it. Even those who were just near it would hear its call. It worked by turning even the good intentions of those who held it against them. That's why Gandalf refused to take it, because he would want to use its power for good, but knew it would twist his intentions to evil without him even realising.

1:55 Humans are indeed the shortest lived race in this universe. But the Ring significantly extends the lifespan of whoever possesses it, that’s why Gollum lived 500 years. 2:09 This was filmed in New Zealand. They left the Shire sets up, the whole town is still there and is now a tourist attraction. 9:08 About the same, actually. Little people in real life tend to be 2.5 to 4 feet, same as Hobbits.

1:06 - They were orcs. From the books: they originated long before the events of the lord of the rings from elves who've been captured and corrupted. 1:54 - From the books again: The first humans had a very long life. Centuries after centuries humans' lifespan has got shorter and shorter, but I think it's still longer than real-life humans. 5:18 - Sauron didn't die. He transferred part of his power into the ring, so that unless the ring is destroyed, he can't never die (but he was defeated and took him many years to return, though not physically). How he communicates with his subordinates is never explained. 6:52 - In the theatre version of the movie, here you could see a car driving on the background (they removed it in the DVD version).

Humans, particularly Numenoreans, who were faithful to the Valar were blessed with long life. However, they became corrupted and lived shorter and shorter lifespans. Finally, they desired immortality and launched an attempted invasion of the Undying Lands and the Valar destroyed their kingdom island, Numenor, and only a handful of those faithful to the Valar survived. Aragorn is a descendant of Elendil, one of these faithful. Elendil is the one that cut Sauron's finger bearing the ring.

Yeah, in the Prancing Pony, when the ring slithers on to Frodo's finger, it was a bit of a groaner the first time I saw it. The explanation, which I've chosen to embrace, is the ring wanted to be on his finger in keeping with its will to be found as previously stated in the movie. Best. Leo.
@geminicricket4975
@geminicricket4975 3 года назад
The ring did that on more than one occasion: slipped off of Isildur's finger; off of Gollum's finger; it slipped on to Bilbo's finger when he was first fleeing Gollum. In many ways, the ring is an actual "character" with certain very limited abilities.
@christianforsstrom2222
@christianforsstrom2222 3 года назад
in the book he had his hand in his pocket and was fiddleing with the ring, and it slipped on as he fell, kinda hard to show on film, but Peter Jacksons interpretation was a bit over dramatic. Edit: I'm also pretty sure the ring wanted to out him, and made sure it slipped on his finger, as there were spies in the inn.
@geminicricket4975
@geminicricket4975 3 года назад
I read the books, long before Jackson ever made these movies, and agree that this choice was kinda hoaky, but... how do you show that a ring is capable of slipping off or on a finger? Jackson even went so far as to let you hear the ring whispering to others, which Tolkien never actually did. But Tolkien did assert that the ring was a "character" with a will of its own, so... it works. Hoaky or otherwise. :)

The Ringwraiths hesitated to cross the river because it marked the territory of the elves - their power in the world is waning, but the still are quite powerful and posses magic. The wraiths themselves are also nearly blind and therefore rely on their rides - the horses weren't exactly normal but they did die in the flood, so they had to return for the time being. Also, the ring is immensely powerful, being essentially a container for the biggest part of Sauron and his power, tempting men the most, because seeking power is in their nature. The sad thing is, even the best intentions will be used to lure someone to desire the ring, which then slowly corrupts for it's own use. Boromir only ever desired to protect his people, he is honourable and brave, but for his lack of knowledge about the rings power he was entirely unprepared for it's influence end fell easily. His city is close to Mordor and the historically most attacked human settlement so his desire for power was truly greater than any of the other members'... Hobbits with their carefree and comfy way of life and little interest in power tend to be least susceptible to corruption.
