All this talk of weaving in ends reminds me of my first really big crochet project; a chevron afghan that changed colors ever eight rows. I didn't know how to weave between the posts yet so I just weaved it in and out of stitches until I got to the end of the yarn. You can still tell which side was the one I switched colors on if you look for it. Still love that blanket.

Black yarn is really a lighting issue. I was working on amigurumi pieces last Sunday, that use red and black yarn. In the middle of afternoon, with sunlight, at my desk, black yarn ? Pfff, no issue. In the evening, with electrical light, still at my desk, same black yarn : Where are my stitches ?

You mentioned the video of your sisters trying crocheting. Possibly doing a part 2. YES PLEASE! It was so funny I cried I was laughing so hard.

Defintely give the diagrams a shot. The basic symbols are easy to decipher: oval = chain, • = slipstitch, + or × = UK dc. For anything that looks like a (religious) cross, the number of slashes across the stem is the number of yarn overs before pulling up a loop, so one slash = one yarn = UK treble; two slashes = 2 yo = UK dtr I'd recommend starting with something flat that is worked in the round (eg a granny square). That way all the stitches are worked in the same direction. If you get a pattern that's worked in rows, scan/take a pic or import a copy into a photo app or something like powerpoint and mirror it (flip vertically), and use it for the wrong-side rows - usually the even numbered rows if you are right handed

Chronic pain solidarity! >.< For me it's hypermobility + fibromyalgia ... and my fingers/hands hurt when I'm not careful, which kind-of sucks when one likes to do stuff with ones hands! I did chuckle at your commentary about small hooks--while I don't want to make *big* projects with them, I actually enjoy using smaller hooks (been going between 0.5mm and 1.5mm lately)

So... I would probably choose chocolate over crochet. My experience with black yarn is totally dependent upon what I make. Also, as I've gotten older, it's getting harder. Oh I drool over cotton and even more bamboo or alpaca. I'm so over acrylic. LOL Yarn room... Oh, your thought process... tempting. Unfinished death wish, my daughter added writers. Anyway, she said that if someone finishes the projects I leave behind, it'll set me free.

I guess everyone knows when you are working with black yarn to have a white piece of paper or white cloth under it will make it a lot easier to see the stitches.

Weaving in ends as you go? Absolutely, yes. But no. Accepting that not doing that is making things more difficult for myself? Also no. I am who I am 🤷🏽‍♀️😂🧶

Surprisingly enough, I find diagrams way easier to read than regular patterns. Except DROPS diagrams. They have way too many symbols it's ridiculous! "This one's for single crochet and this one's for a single crochet on a chain space" I don't need two separate symbols for that if I see a single crochet on top of a chain symbol of course I know what I'm supposed to be doing I'm not that stupid. But yeah they're easier for me especially for stuff like shawls and doilies and other lacy projects

I have only knitted with their patterns. The last one had some weird symbols but mostly it's been ok for knit. I have rarely crocheted from charts but I know how.

Drops patterns were my first thought when I saw that one too. I was making one of their sweaters once, simple variation on a raglan that was easy to work up once I figured out what was happening, but deciphering that pattern was enough of a chore that I've never considered their patterns since. They really over complicated something simple

Sound panels: I've made panels of crocheted roses for sound proofing with my scrap yarn... it's fun.

Haven't tried loom knitting before, it's one of those things that's been on my to-do list forever though. And I love the idea of making acoustic panels from crochet roses, they would look so pretty!
