And since the religion is very all-or-nothing with these books, saying that one is either divine inspired truth or the apocryphal word of men who didn't know what the heck they were talking about, we end up with situations where the same one book can be treated by one group as divine and by their next-door neighbors as garbage. And even with all that freely picking of exactly what they want to include and what they want to ditch, somehow no one can find a combination of books that leaves you with one Bible without contradictions. It's really quite astounding.

⁠@@drakeconsumerofsoulsandche4303 what we now call “the bible” is a collection of literature written by dozens of people over the span of 400 years. the two sections of the bible are essentially completely different things. the “old testament” is a broad term for the many interpretations we have of the Hebrew bible, which are the religious writings of the ancient Israelites. its the grandfather of all Abrhramic religions, like Islam, Catholic, and all the denominations that fall under Christianity. the New Testament is what sets Christianity/Catholicism apart from the rest. The Hebrew bible had the prophecy about the “Messiah”, and some guy named Jesus came along and claimed to be the one the Israelites were talking about. the New Testament is a collection of writings from people who pretty much just followed Jesus around until he was executed, believing he was the son of god. Put both those books together, and you have the general form of our modern bible. Obviously a lot of factors go into interpreting all these writings from different people, in different situations, with different intentions, hundreds of years apart. Because of all those interpretations, you end up with 100 slightly different copies of the same thing. Hence the many different versions of the modern bible. Hope this helps

Darwin talks about race in relation to lettuce. Darwin is relatively easy to read, but the later research is hard. By extension, any changes or disagreements within the scientific community discredits all scientific claims because this is how it works in faith. A religious passage cannot be later determined incorrect without undermining the entire belief system.

I suspect it’s simply a setting issue. Assuming that you’re in a primarily english-speaking country like mine, we have a long history of christianity involved in higher education and so there’s been dedicated focus to come up with sophisticated apologetics and disseminate them. In other words, even rando christian apologists are familiar with the kalam , the teleological argument, etc. However, muslim apologists don’t have that foundation so they literally just say w/e BS pops into their heads. In muslim-majority countries I imagine that they have apologetics closer in quality to the christian ones we’re familiar with and that christian apologetics are the ones that suck there. At least I hope so, for my own peace of mind.

However, the researcher is tasked with differentiating fact from fiction, as grandiose stories attract storytellers, and al-Isrā’ wa al-Miʿrāj is the most magnificent story of all. As with any event, reports on the topic are assessed to distinguish the most authentic narrations. The researcher must also compare interpretations; some believe that al-Isrā’ wa al-Miʿrāj was a dream, or that the Prophet travelled in spirit, but that is not the case. As a bona fide miracle from Allah, the Prophet physically journeyed-in a state of wakefulness-from Mecca to Jerusalem, and then to the Heavens and back, within a single night. There is a difference of opinion as to when al-Isrā’ wa al-Miʿrāj took place. However, there are some indications. ʿĀ’ishah narrated, “Khadījah died before the prayer became obligatory.”302 This is definitive proof that al-Isrā’ wa al-Miʿrāj took place within the last 18 months of the Meccan era because the prayer was made obligatory in al-Miʿrāj. The day, or even month, of the event is unknown, and any specified date is not authentically narrated. It is yet another indication that the Companions did not place great emphasis on the dates and anniversaries of major events; they focused on the substance of the events rather than commemorating its existence. The Prophet was sleeping at home when Jibrīl arrived and took him to the Ḥaṭīmi to pray two units (rakʿāt) of prayer. The Prophet narrated. “Jibrīl opened up my chest and brought a bowl made of gold filled with Zamzam.ii He took out my heart, washed it, and put it back.”305 This is the second time that Jibrīl washed the Prophet’s heart, however on this occasion he did not need to remove a black spot. Nevertheless, his heart needed to be washed with Zamzam to prepare it for the overwhelmingly awe-inspiring sights to come. As Allah stated, “He certainly saw some of his Lord’s greatest signs.”306 It was through Allah’s divine intervention and special facilitation that the Prophet was able to traverse into the Heavens without being subjected to any of the physical laws of this world.307 The Prophet continued, “Jibrīl then brought me a beast, smaller than a mule but bigger than a donkey, pure white, called al-Burāq. Each of its strides is as far as the eye can see.” The word “burāq” stems from the root word “barq” which means “lightning”, denoting its lightning speed. However, al-Burāq is a physical animal, created of flesh and blood, not a spiritual creature. There are no authentically narrated reports about a winged horse. Al-Burāq had a harness and saddle, and Jibrīl held the harness as the Prophet mounted. Al-Burāq neighed, and Jibrīl tugged the harness, saying, “Woe to you! Are you not shy? By Allah, no-one has ridden you that is more blessed in the eyes of Allah than your current rider!”308 The Prophet continued, “I rode al-Burāq and he took me to al-Aqsa Mosque. This guy probably has read thousands of Hadiths and spoken to many scholars about them, so to dismiss evolution without any detailed explanation why is just reckless.

They are all conmen whose job is to manipulate and convince families that they have a "spiritual flaw" or "sin" that can only be solved by submitting yourself to their brand of God. In return for this "mercy" you should look to them as authority figures that deserve obedience and respect, that you should give material wealths to so that they can continue their business of brainwashing more people to get hooked on their brand. When you consider that religious institutions in most places don't get tax demands, it makes it more suspicious if religious leaders are even that "devout" to begin with
