The red orbweaver with the dark gray background is absolutely stunning! For dragonflies the easiest way is to find one or two local ponds that they like, and at those they'll be in abundance year round usually. The tricky bit is finding the right pond/water. Although there are also plenty of species which are challenging to find.

Thanks! I usually shoot in the same spots, so this year I might try to find a better spot for dragonflies.

great retrospective video about your journey. That overfly in flight shot is the bomb! Overall the standard you were in 2019 is about where I am just now - gives me a little hope going forward that I can improve.

An inspirational, and interesting journey. You have some superb pictures in your collection. For me, macro is the best photographic genre. I am keen to get 'out there' and see what can be found... Stroll on, summer. I can hardly wait to get started. Who says 'there is no God'. ? !?. Truly amazing!

If you want to get into bees, butterflys etc in flight, I would recommend using the Olympus 300mm with a 1.4 teleconverter. This opens up a new world of insect photography and you shoot at a distance of 1.4m away from the subject. I have the function button on the lens set to focus bracketing. Fantastic lens for insects and wildelife. Oh, the precapture is fantastic for flight take-off.

With the 1.4 teleconverter, are you getting any closer than 1.4m or is it purely you’re getting more close up on the subject? I have tried bees and butterflys - damn hard, especially when the sun is up. Shooting bees in flight is difficult ? What’s your success been like ? Any setting you use that you recommend ?

First time I have watched your channel. Very interesting to watch your progression and hear your thoughts. You've got some cracking shots of late too. During the Covid I treated myself to my first macro lens - Tamron 90mm x1 - which I still use. Your video gave me some ideas and reminded me of some others so has given me a boot up the backside for 2024, so thanks, and I have subscribed to your channel. Good luck for the new year.

Hi Jamie, learning so much from your channel, i'm currently a Canon R6 user but noticed on your shoots that your Olympus supports rapid recycle flash? which is a killer feature for macro, would love to see a tutorial video of how you set your camera up for a shoot, thinking of switching to the OM-D Cheers

The Canon r6 is an amazing camera. My rapid flash recycle is all about my flash battery. I use the godox v350o and when shooting between 1/16 and 1/128 power, the battery can keep up with the 10fps shutter of my camera.

Hello - with the Olympus camera focus bracketing, how many images are you generally taking and are you hand holding or using a tripod ? I would greatly appreciate a reply :)

For most of my high magnification portrait shots I stack about 30 to 100 shots and I shoot everything handheld with a flash and diffuser. And I usually try to take as many shots as it takes to cover the whole subject

how do you find youself with the mark ii? i'm about to switch from canon to olympus too, and im debating which camera body to get. I'd like the mark iii obviously but it's a little expensive, even used, so i was looking for a used mark ii but i don't know if it's a big "downgrade" from the mark iii. What's your opinion?

It is a lot easier to use than Canon in my opinion. I made a whole video comparing my old Canon setup and new Olympus setup, that might be useful to you. But the mk2 and mk3 are very similar. I find the mk2 perfectly fine. Couldn't ask for more
