Tough year to predict...but I guess that makes it a good year to watch as well! T beauty of the Premier League! Still, I need to get back to my best next season. Who's winning it in 23/24? Who will be the surprise packages? And who is going down? Let me know below!
Here's a weird stat, this is the first time since 17/18 none of the three promoted teams went straight back down, but in addition to that, in both seasons the team that won the championship (Newcastle and Fulham) finished 10th, the team that finished 2nd in the championship (Brighton and Bournemouth) finished 15th and the team that won the playoffs (Huddersfield and Forest) finished 16th.
My son recommended you to me when he was 10 (ish)... we went to the Wembley Cup etc and you were a massive part of our lives together whilst he grew up... He's now left college and has a girlfriend etc etc so I barely see him naturally... But, I will never forget your impact Spencer.. I'll always be a supporter of yours and eternally grateful... 👊
Manager of the season for me is De Zerbi. Came in mid way through the season and has looked every bit as good as Potter, who let’s not forget was very highly regarded at Brighton. He’s been a revelation. Team of the season is Arsenal. Nobody expected them to fight for the title and to hold the lead for as long as they did is really impressive. Fans may be disappointed to have lost out at the end but from where they’ve come from last season it’s a huge improvement.
Unai Emery deserves it more. Brighton was still in a good position and had a good manager before. It looked really bad for villa but Emery pulled through. He got more points than De Zerbi with less games.
bunch of idiots above me. Eddie Howe is far and away at number 1. Hes been doing it the whole season especially with that very average squad. De Zerbi and Emery granted have been amazing since they came in but not close to the significance of Howe
ha ha yeah i watched that vid was funny as heck, and big up AFC Bournemouth for doing it. Back of the net Boscombe back of the net (Only a true Bournemouth fan/Supporter will recognise that chant).
This year was crazy, a lot of surprises like bournemouth Brentford Brighton so high, Chelsea and Tottenham finishing so low. So it’s natural that you didn’t do so well this year , you go again next year.
Think people were saying for 1 and a half seasons that if Brighton started scoring goals theyd get europe but even then i think we thought deepdown itd be at best conference league
Great vid Spenzema!! I know you mentioned it in a joking way, but I’d love a full breakdown video of Chelsea’s season. It almost didn’t seem real when looking at their score lines. Not only did they underperform, the LACK of goals they scored was so bizarre.
One narrative that annoys me is that Arsenal fell off a cliff but United have always been “there or thereabouts” as you said. In the last 9 seasons, Arsenal have finished ahead of United 6 times, whereas United have finished ahead of Arsenal just 3 times. United have never really challenged for the title in that time either whereas Arsenal have twice.
yh but if u actually look at the finishes after wengers tenure arsenal hasn’t been top 4 once man u has finished 2 twice and 3rd once and have won europa league and been in the champions league as well as europa league semifinal champions league ro16 and quarters with more money to spend
Got 76 points. Actually got the top 2 bang-on (City & Arsenal). Thought I did ok, but your 44-point season must have been incredible. I hope to break 60 next year. Great video!
No disrespect to Brighton, but Leicester going down less than 10 years after the PL win, and Southhampton going down with years and years of "smart player investment", if Brighton doesn't learn from this then in 5 to 10 years they will be at bottom of the table. I jokingly say that Liverpool bought all of the talent from Southampton, and with Brighton doing so well and big clubs after their talent, there will come a day just like Southampton and Leicester had. But on Chelsea, and take this with a grain of salt since I'm a Chelsea fan, yes they had a horrible season, but the refs cost at least 30 points for Chelsea. We all remember Tot v Chelsea at the start, Cucurella being pulled by the hair, and Anthony Taylor not calling a foul granting Tot an equalizer. Against WH clear handball, no penalty. Against Liv ball bounces from Alisson against Kai's hand into the net- no goal (since obvious handball), but a week later similar situation- no handball, and Chelsea didn't get a penalty. Last game of the year against Newcastle (nothing to play for on either side), clear handball on Burn- no penalty. If refs are unwilling to call a fair game in a situation where nothing is at stake, then when would they call a fair game against Chelsea? Against Fulham, Felix got red-carded (yes it was high leg into a Fulham player) in the first game, but in the second game Fulham player flew feet first into James- no card. Cesar was knocked out by Southampton, and the ref took 5+ min to show a yellow card for that (it was clear red since if that's not red then I would tell my players to start knocking out the other team; you can't allow this kind of behavior on the pitch; imaging how easy it would be to have your starting 11 knock out their starting 11 get 11 yellow, they can make 5 substitutions so you knock them out as well with your 5 substations and now you are 11 against 0 since their 16 players are out injured and they can't make any more substitutes).
Great video as always! For next season will you consider predicting other things: like golden boot winner, predict a dark horse (like in the WC, but you won’t count any points for it just a HM)?
I got 90 points, I did even worse🤣 I predicted everton to finish 4th, what a mare from me however I did get nottingham forrest, crystal palace and man city in the right places so 3 out of 20🤣🤣🤣🤣
would say you had a shocker but like you said who even expected brighton, and chelsea, as the two biggest examples to have the seasons they did. i know my prediction before the season would’ve been pretty similar. although idk about you predicting villa to get 7th tho. cuz that was with gerrard 😂👀.. i’m actually yet to check my own prediction. literally haven’t looked at it since i wrote it, and worried to see what i put 😭. have a feeling it may be very similar to yours or even worse.. also how come you don’t predict the golden boot, golden glove, and the top assistor? would be another fun thing to see you try to predict. but always nice to watch these videos! looking forward to the prediction for next seasons.
I got 70 this year, biggest howlers being Leicester (9th), Fulham (17th) and Chelsea (5th). Had both Leeds and Southampton going down at least and also had wolves, forest and city bang on
I got 65 points. Average but I'm quite proud of myself for seemingly being the only person to back Fulham. I put them 11th which was only 1 position off.
Got 82 points this year, so not far off from you. Coming off my best every season last year (58), it wasn't great to see. But this year has been crazy!
Newcastle didn't buy the big name players cause they did not have champions league to offer. With them securing it now, those big name transfers will start coming in the years to come
liverpool was screwed over by injuries if it wasn't for most of the team being injured they easily challenge for the title which they will this coming season
I got 100 points lmao considering I got 52 last season. My biggest mistakes were predicting Newcastle 13th and Leicester 7th thought Leicester's squad would still be great despite Schmeichel leaving.
I had a good prediction list this year getting only 58 points off. My worst prediction like everyone else was chelsea, I said they will be 4th only to be horribly wrong but lets be honest no one predicted that they could finish 12th. This shows money can't buy titles always.
Shoutout best owner of the season Todd Bowley. The amount of money he is willing to waste shows true dedication. Also got rid of Tuchel which us Chelsea fans totally wanted him gone despite winning us the champions league two years ago /s
Got 75, I think that’s actually quite good considering how many anomalies and unpredictabilities there were this season. Gonna give myself a pat on the back
Got to treat the negatives as positives with this scoring system. Final score is how many positions you were wrong by, regardless of if that’s positions above or below your prediction - getting 0 points would mean you’d predicted the entire league correctly!
“Chelsea have had an awful season, I could make a whole video about it” I can’t be the only one who actually would want that, right? Make it happen, Spen Doggy Dogg!
Using your system i got 70 points, fulham chelsea and leicester i did poorly on. Did well on brighton putting them 8th and mid table was pretty alright
Mourinho was in a 3 year plus slump before he came to Spurs and didn’t return to his old form until he got almost a full season in at Roma. For Conte he only does well when you spend way more than even what Spurs gave him and Spurs put up a lot more money to spend then they’ve done for any other manager.
Spencer when you predict next season don’t fall into the trap of predicting Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham low because they have bad seasons this season
15:37 a cup & top 4 > no cup & top 4 at the end of the day. It’s nice being in a title race but when you have nothing to show for it you can’t say it’s better imo.
Great video, but harsh to say Mourinho failed because win a trophy at Spurs. He got them to the final, but was sacked before getting the chance to succeed.
Early predictions for 23/24: (may change depending on transfers) 1. Arsenal 2. City 3. United 4. Liverpool 5. Newcastle 6. Chelsea 7. Spurs 8. Brighton 9. Villa 10. Brentford 11. Palace 12. Everton 13. West Ham 14. Fulham 15. Burnley 16. Wolves 17. Bournemouth 18. Sheffield 19. Forest 20. Luton
My prem prediction added up to 75 points. Not great not terrible. Got city and palace correct but they’re probably the easiest to predict! Chelsea and Leicester were the big hitters!
Everyone overlooking Erik Ten Hag, he got ridiculed in the press after 2 games. Turned everything around and managed to finish 3rd and win his first trophy. Hes managed to turn fringe players into a different beast, and has changed the culture around the club.
My table at the start: 1 - City 2 - Spurs 😬 3 - Liverpool 4 - Man United 5 - Chelsea 6 - Arsenal 7 - Newcastle 8 - Leicester 9 - West Ham 10 - Villa 11 - Palace 12 - Brighton 13 - Wolves 14 - Everton 15 - Southampton 16 - Forest 17 - Brentford 18 - Fulham 19 - Leeds 20 - Bournemouth 5 predictions bang on but still scored 76 points because of a few howlers, very mixed bag
looking at their form at the end of last season & also since im just naturally biased against them, i jokingly put chelsea down as 10th cos i just didn't believe that Boehly would invest the same way Abramovich would. I was right for the wrong reasons but im well pleased with it XD
I only was right with Nottingham Forest surviving the drop,Brentford being a top 10 caliber team. I was so wrong about all the other London teams.😂 I picked Fulham,Bournemouth and Everton(my surprise pick for relegation).
Eddie deserves it more than Unai tbh. Unai has done a great job yes, but it's expected that he'd do a good job. He's a recognized coach. While Eddie...Kept a Bournemouth side punch above their weight till they couldn't any more. For Eddie to then take a side that was relegation threatened, to CL. That's bigger in my opinion.
i did this with my predictions and came too 64 points... not as bad as i expected, helped that i got forest wolves and villa bang on weirdly. what helped was my optimism of brentford and brighton predicting brentford 10th and brighton 8th respectively. did predict bournemouth and fulham to go down and chelsea 5th aswell so that was my downfall.
