You're absolutely right, but what you're describing is creativity born out of limitation. It's similar to the way older games felt more creative with limited technology to work with, so they had to be more creative with how they used what they had, in contrast to today where modern hardware can brute force its way through a lot of problems, and we see developers getting really lazy with their coding because of that.
