Ironically, when you joked about snipers in Finland...The deadliest sniper of all time was actually Finnish. Simo Häyhä, nicknamed "The white death". He had about 500 confirmed kills during The Winter War. Very interesting man. If you're interested, I'd suggest looking him up sometime.
Laine was drafted 2nd overall after matthews and during the game at 3:15 Laine had one goal and it was 4-3 for Matthews team (Maple leafs) but Laine tied it like last minute in the last period and completed the hat trick in overtime after matthews failed to score on a breakaway. Clutch moment
Fun fact Laine used to be a goalie right up until he was 12 before his dad told him to play forward… so part of him just knows where to shoot always if you ask me
This guy is so unique. Laine has all the tools to be a superstar but hasn’t been able to reach that level consistently. He was drafted 2nd behind Austin Matthews and spent the first 4 seasons of his career in Winnipeg. He requested a trade and currently plays on the blue jackets. He is a very good young player and still has time to get even better
I think this season will be something for Laine fans. He is getting awesome spot in Columbus with top players. It's all about the shot and he really does have a unique flow in his shot.
Theres not many hockey snipers coming from Finland. Laine is an anomaly. Well, there was this one guy called Teemu Selänne #8. Started in Winnipeg as well. Had pretty good rookie season as well. Went to Anaheim and did pretty good. Played in the Olympics for Finland and made some goals and points there as well. He has his jersey hung up in somewhere, maybe for one another year? ;)
Man people who train their whole lives to make it the league usually don’t even make it. In any sport. Not just hockey. Pro athletes are scary good at their sports.
Laine is a great young player who's had his career derailed by a lot out of his control. Another year in the right headspace and situation and he could score 50 easily. Probably the best long range wrist shot in the game today.
@@ericsclips2706 My comment about his situation was more about Scheifele and Wheeler being bad teammates and their locker room being notoriously terrible. It seems like they made it very hard on him and Maurice was no help either.
@@RyanYoung8 they all still produced. Also, if Laine could score 18 goals in a month with all of that, then there's no excuse for him to have not scored 50 at least one time if not more than once
@@ericsclips2706 his usage on Winnipeg what much, much more inconsistent than his play ever lwas. He was mainly playing in 2nd line without proper 2C. There is absolutely no way you score 50 with that usage. On his sophmore season he got 44, and played only half of the season with matching line mates, and all of the season 2nd line with 2nd line minutes.
@@wallyllaw no, it was literally his play that was inconsistent which is why he stopped getting as much ice time. What your saying about him only playing half that season and scoring 44 literally proves my point, even though he played all 82 lmfao. He averaged 17:40 toi in Winnipeg which is plenty enough to have scored 50 goals in a season anyway. He obviously has the potential but like I said, he's way to inconsistent so far in his career.

I love playing hockey but i feel you, i would also never want to be in the league. Top level hockey is just brutal, but that just makes it even more fun to watch!
This puts some perspective on how good the goalies are, Laine has like 12% shooting acurucy, so if he takes 100 shots, only 12 are going in, its insane the reflexes of the NHL goalies
Next up: Another Finnish guy, Pekka Rinne. Just retired, and Nashville retired his number. Great goaltender, even better human, as they say. Definitely check him out!
It's funny that even home announcers sometimes pronounce it wrong. Sometimes the players let the announcers know. It's a hit or miss lol. I just remember Milan Michalek being a longtime worrisome name to read. But there are plenty.
The second version of Laine, "It's probably something like..." was actually pretty close. The closest English spelling could be Lie-neh with similar emphasis on both syllables. It's Finnish for a wake, a slow and gentle wave or ripple on the surface of water.
Hey dude, got a goalie suggestion for you: Elvis Merzlikins. He’s also on Columbus like Laine & went through a very rough season as he had one of his best friends & fellow Jacket players sacrifice his own life to save his & his wife’s (Mattis Kivlenieks) from a fireworks mortar shell that was barreling at them. But he makes some of the nastiest pad saves I’ve ever seen… dude can sprawl himself out and has some very acute awareness. If you want a older goalie to watch however, I suggest Dominik Hasek. Guy was super unconventional and yet super effective!
Laine shaved his head recently and he actually looks damn good! As a bald man myself, props to the newest sexy man to the club! Also, the amount of speed he gets on the puck from so little is astonishing. He's a true sniper. Reminds me of Stamkos in his heyday.
Patrick Laine is kinda like shaq lol. with his natural talents he could probably be one of the goats but he just doesn't have the same dedication as the best he also openly plays a shit ton of fortnite
I actually think that Laine is a better player then Matthews, Laine did play in the second line most of he’s time in Winnipeg with little and Statsny because of Schefele and Wheeler. Matthews did play on the first line because there wasn’t any good players in Toronto and he was lucky because of that. Facts!!!
So Matthers has scored all the points and won all the awards because there is no good players with him in Toronto? And Laine could not even make it into first line in Winnipeg? Matthews can do it all. Shoot, pass, skate, play D and O. Laine is almost one-dimentional sniper.
@@RoyalMela No you fo#l, Matthews was only successful because he played with Marner and he got to the first line because he was a American. Laine don’t need Marner to score goals! Laine>Matthews
No Edits...... You got too much backlog of "Players that don't play in Carolina" 3 Vids a day Until we start reacting to Carolina then we can get dope edits i like that formula 100%
Laine has alot of potential but he is an underachiever. He likes to score goals but doesn't do much for his team to create chances. He just floats around, hoping his team mates find him open.
