Reacting to "Reva will be the main Character of Kenobi" Rumor - Nerd Theory 

I mean statistically speaking they’re more likely to mess up the show than to succeed

17 years...17 years for the KENOBI show, and there's a chance that the character the show is named after is about to shafted by some random? I'm with Theory and Josh 10000% who the hell cares about Reva. Honestly if they wanted to show the inner workings of the Inquisitori, why not use VADER. Or why not use The Grand Inquisitor. His character has so much more substance than this random ass character.

Unfortunately with their track record, she might have way too big of a part in this and when fans inevitably don’t like her, they’ll just call us racist and sexist when in reality all we wanted was just obiwan

If they pull a BOBF on this show I'm gonna loose it. Having Boba basically be a backseat character in his OWN show was ridiculous. I'm honestly hoping we get Kenobi and Vader first and every other character second in EVERY episode.

Why is it that every time Disney introduces new characters, they always ended up getting propped up while the legacy characters get crapped on? I really don't understand this type of mentality they have. First they ruined Luke, Han and Leia in the sequel trilogy to make room for Rey. Then they did the same with Boba Fett in his own show for some silly speeder gang. Now they're gonna do the same thing with Obi-Wan aka one of the most important characters in the franchise just for Reva to shine.

Totally agree with you guys. We are here for Kenobi and Vader. New characters are needed and villains that turn good is ok but can not be used for identity politics and injecting the message into the show.

I hope this Reva character doesn't get a whole episode all to herself, that would TOTALLY take away from Obi-Wan & Vader; and any moments that focus on the Inquisitors should really showcase all of the Inquisitors equally, not just on one of them. (Reva)

I agree with both of your perspectives. I want to watch Kenobi for Kenobi and Vader's conflict. But, in all honesty, introducing another new character who actually has a cool story, sounds great. But it NEEDS to be 75% Kenobi, 20% Vader, 5% Reva.

While I’m entirely down to see new characters’ shows and storylines in Star Wars, why does Disney keep including these new characters within pre-existing characters’ shows/movies and overshadow these legends? The entire sequel trilogy just dumps on the arcs of all the original protagonists, Boba was rough outside of the Mando episodes, and now this with an inquisitor overshadowing Kenobi?! The reason Rogue One works so well with all new characters is because it doesn’t overshadow pre-existing characters or try to make them seem way better. It’s weird the decisions they’re making. Show us new characters and expand their stories without diminishing pre-existing stories and characters.

The way Darth Maul went out in Rebels was fitting but a shame bc seeing Ray Park appear in this show could’ve been cool. Also Kenobi confronting Commander Cody could be cool

I’ve been saying from the first trailer the show is going to be about Reva and how she’s a victim in all this and brainwashed by evil men she how she’s misunderstood and ends up being good by the end of the series. She’ll save obi wan or Luke or both and will be the real hero of Obi Wans show. It’s so predictable and stupid.

I can see this show bombing and Ewan McGregor coming out in defense of it then the fans turning on him. I'm booking it now. It may also sour Hayden Christensen to Star Wars again. Thinking back to the trailer I remember there being very little shots of Obi so I think it's likely to be true. So if it is true then that's awful. There now seems to be a trend taking place where the main male lead character is playing second fiddle in their own shows. Witcher and now potentially Kenobi. It's like going to Pizza Hutt and they give you fish tacos instead.

i love when star wars theory realized lando was like the only black dude in the OT had me dying I want more black people in star wars as i am black but i don't want them to pick the characters just because they are black, like Finn, samuel jackson wasn't picked because he was black it's because he was Samuel jackson and because his race just fit his character. Finn was more of a propaganda stunt to show diversity, it was forced diversity instead of necessary or fitting. as josh was saying identity isn't race or what u look like its the content of your character. josh was not being racist in anyway and i just want to make that clear to people who hear what he says and takes it the wrong way.

I am worried about this show... what once was something I dreamed of I am now scared to see what the final product is gonna be. I cannot imagine us waiting nearly 20 years for something Obi-wan related to get a show that shove identity poltics and wokeness into it totally ruining the show. We should get a new full trailer soon... if that chick is all over the trailer I think we are in for a rough ride.

Here's the thing: I live in the desert alone and I've spent a lot more than 6 hours doing interesting things so there's no excuse why this show cannot focus its entire time give or take between Obi Wan and Vader and their mental struggles and stuff. I don't care if it becomes a melodrama about Obi Wans PTSD, that's why I'm here.

I’m worried about the show now. They already did Boba dirty, don’t do it to Kenobi. I’m fine with her even being the main bad (doesn’t make sense when the grand inquisitor and Vader are there) but Obi-Wan should have the majority of the screen time. He’s my favourite character so I’m praying they don’t mess this up but it’s Disney so…

31:15 Disney has made it very clear time and time again that their casting choices, and many of their story choices, are very much about gender and race. If fans are commenting about the race of casting choices, it's only because Disney and other companies in recent years have put so much weight on it in their decision making. We've seen a lot of evidence too that writers in Hollywood now think identity = story. For those of us outside of that echo chamber, it's obvious that not only does it not equal good story, but that such ideology treads racism and tokenism. Fans are right to criticize discrimination, even discrimination that is posed as being positive.

I feel like Disney at this point is only concerned with a quick buck from an action packed eye-pleaser and sacrifices the intricate plots I love in Star Wars for the casual fans who only want a quick beat ‘em up. Some of the best Star Wars books I’ve read are slow. For example “Kenobi” legends novel just talks about his life in the middle of nowhere, not duels and showdowns every day. They aren’t thinking of how this show will age, if the rumors are true. This is why the prequels have gained more popularity recently than the sequels because of its awesome plot line, despite being 15 years old or more. Can you imagine the BOBF being beloved of people 15 years later? Of course not- it only wanted to get the masses to stay interested long enough for them to finish it, with a lot of flashy guns and explosions. I wish we could have stuck with what made the OT so awesome- it proved that acting and special effects wasn’t everything! To be fair, Disney started out great (CW S7, Rogue One etc) but quickly lost their goal. Shouldn’t have bought it from Lucas 😢

This is why I'm not going to watch the show till it's released in its entirety. That's how much I trust Disney now. True, I want to support Ewan and Hayden's return to Star Wars yet given the character assassination we got with Boba Fett, I really don't have high hopes this latest show will turn out great. I really don't want my love of the prequel era to be tarnished because of it.

Reva exists because Disney doesn't have faith that this character wouldn't last in her own show, so they shoehorn her in and use Kenobi as a bait and switch. Simple enough.

I’m feeling the opposite of how I felt about Jedi fallen order pertaining to this situation as I felt the second sister/trilla should’ve got more screen time as the story seemed actually get more interesting and exciting when she was actually apart of the game. Obi wan doesn’t have enough time to spare to dedicating it to reva like fallen order could’ve with trilla.

I just hope reva is actually a good character and isn’t forced to get points for having someone that is both black and a women, even though that’s what will most likely happen

If it’s a Kenobi tv show they should definitely focus more on Kenobi as a character. I think Star Wars should do new things and expand to different eras, but if they’re gonna stay in this same period of like 14 years, they should focus on the characters that are already there.

I knew something was off about this show. Despite Hayden and Ewan returning i wasn't feeling the excitement I should have. Now my fears are being confirmed. Hope it's decent enough and not a total waste of time. My expectations are very low at this point. I mean why name your show Obi Wan if Obi wan is not the main character? Still it can be that this rumour is not entirely true, God help us. What could you expect when the great KK meddles in things she has no idea about.

I don’t understand why this show needs to focus on other characters and their adventures from planet to planet at all like we’ve seen in Mando and Boba. It should follow Obi Wan and his perspective only, introspective and giving off the simple sense of a man and his struggles in a dangerous galaxy. The empire should be terrifying in the show, and since Obi Wan leaves Tatooine we should see the signs of the Jedi purge in an almost horror like way. Kenobi himself hiding in underworlds and stowing away on ships. That way, his encounter with any inquisitor or Vader has that much more weight to it. So far it seems like we’ll be following Reva when she meets Kenobi, not the other way around.

None of this is done by accident or with good intentions. It is literally all intended to demoralize. They probably already have the articles written “fan backlash over black female lead character shows why the Star Wars fan base is still as toxic as ever” It’s like arguing about the rules in a sport the other person doesn’t even want to play.

Considering how Kathleen made it apparent she doesn't know how to learn from her mistakes and the fact that BoB was missing a lot of Boba halfway through, I have no faith. Ewan McGregor is a great actor and is very passionate about his role as Obi-wan. If the rumor turns out to be true, I'll most likely stop watching Star Wars stuff all together, as it just is going to make more irritated than happy to continue.

Why do I have a feeling the Kenobi show will have very little Vader and Kenobi and mostly Reva.

As soon as they announced this character I think most of us were expecting a bait and switch. We’ve just become used to it. It’s why I’ve been keeping my expectations low for this to avoid disappointment. Plus if the strong female character ain’t the bestest evaaaar! the show will some kind of istaphobism.

Reva as the main character would be disappointing. I’m also concerned about lightsaber duels. We haven’t seen a good lightsaber duel live action since the Prequels.

I know I'm late to the party here but when I first saw "Reva" I was wondering why her face looked un-altered and normal and not made to look evil or something, then it dawned on me that maybe it's because she will more than likely do a Vader move, and flip to the light after Kenobi changes her mind in some way or the other and most likely get killed protecting Kenobi...I believe she will be a main focus of the show too.

Damn man why do they have to complicate things and add unnecessary elements all the time... It could've been such a simple and effective story about Vader and Obi-Wan which literally everybody would have enjoyed, but now they put major emphasis on this new character, which nobody cares about, making them the MAIN CHARACTER of KEBOBI'S show. If this turns out to be true I will honestly be furious. Like how can they fuck up so many times and not learn from their mistakes.

Thankfully Deborah Chow came out and she did confirm that this is a story about Kenobi and that he is front and center. So thankfully, I highly highly doubt that it'll be revolved around Reva. Now of course they are going to go over and show her and her story but she wont be front and center.

Revas arc/story will more than likely help obiwan gain perspective on how Vader viewed the Jedi. Hopefully not taking too much time away Obi wan and vaders story.

I think it is fair to say that they intentionally put a black female as a main character because Disney literally says out loud they want to promote diversity and female leads. So it's fair to say it isn't just a coincidence they put a black female as the lead of the kenobi show.

Being a “LIMITED” series?? Each episode should be half Kenobi and half Vader with flashbacks is all that is needed. The build up until the climax. That is all that is needed. Every other character should be backfill.

It's sad really. Disney is doing it with everything now. Can't have a dude as a main character of his own show. Gotta shoe horn in some woman character WHO IS NOT WHAT THE SHOW IS ABOUT to be the main character. The Kenobi series is the LAST thin string that disney is holding on to. If this ends up being terrible writing like BOBF, Star Wars is done. It can never be redeemed or saved. We just need to cancel subscriptions and move on with our lives, but hold on to the original works George Lucas gave us.

Her being the main character was never leaked by the Bespin Bulletin or MSW. According to BB Obi Wan has the most screentime followed by possibly Leia. Reva also ends the show still being a villain. MSW also stated that it wont be a "Bait&Switch".

I’ll stay open minded. Who knows seeing Kenobi’s journey during this period through a different set of eyes may work pretty well. She may serve as the audience’s eyes in the story. That being said at first glance this seems like a terrible idea(if true) if only for the reason that the show is literally called Kenobi😂😂! That’s not the only reason I have more like how I just want a very in depth dive into the journey and adventures of an all time franchise fan favorite character during a sort of grey period in the movie timeline. I thought the bad batch would focus more on the drastic social, political, and violent changes occurring while the empire took over. I wanted to see how life was immediately different for prominent figures in the republic days. I love seeing what Ahsoka was doing or Obi-wan. I love seeing dechipped clones like Rex in this period and how they move. So that’s what I wanted to see. Them focus hard on Old Ben and I thought that was a sure fire thing with the show being named after him and how hard Disney and Lucas films have been pushing of how they’re so proud for this one and how it’s one of the big titles they seemingly know for sure is going to be one of the most popular and looked for when it releases. Like I said I’ll be open to it if this is true and I’ll form my own opinion flatter I’ve seen it instead of jumping to conclusions instead of immediately writing it off. 😂😂Lol although it just seems that someone at Disney real has a beef with the franchise and doesn’t want it to succeed. Everytime they started doing something fans like and get a lot of praise it’s like someone in the background is just saying how can we ruin this newfound success and make all the fans with renewed hope lose faith in us again😄? That’s just an example of what I mean where they truly seem to want to take just as much fondness for the series and excitement for future projects and hand you something just as damaging to your hope for good Star Wars content😂. I bet it's true. One thing Disney has been consistent on is letting me down when it comes to Star Wars - for ten years now. The one and only exception has been Rogue One. I certainly hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see Kenobi shine in his own show, but my gut tells me Disney still has zero idea what Star Wars fans want.

For me as far as villains go (in no particular order): Davy Jones (Pirates 2-3), The Joker (TDK), Commodus (Gladiator), Hans Gruber (Die Hard), Director Krennic (Rogue One), Darth Vader (RotS / OT) The Vulture (Spooderman: Homecoming) and recent one, The Riddler (The Batman). A hero is only as good as the villain, the best ones challenge the hero in a personal way by targeting their deepest weakness / fear. The best villains also don't always want the hero dead as their primary goal, but humiliated, exposed, broken, ect. And they also (save maybe Vader) don't want to rule the world.

Oh boy. Hopefully Disney realizes this show could be the straw that breaks the camels back.

If Kenobi is going to start out incredibly dark and depressing, as he should, we need a way to get him to become ANH Kenobi. We need him to get his spark back. Kenobi always helps people and helping Reva could be his vehicle to bring him to that place. He can't help Vader, and he can't help the grand inquisitor. This character's arc could be the thing that gives him hope and holds him over until Luke grows up, and there's nothing wrong with giving her some depth. We'll get TWO Vader-Kenobi fights, we'll get depressed Kenobi, we'll get Vader. You need a reason for Kenobi to get off world, meet Vader, and grow, and that reason should have some depth to it. You can't just have 5:30 hours of sad Kenobi and Vader and then 30 minutes of fighting. It's a new story that'll require new characters, and it's better that those characters are flushed out. I think it'd be cool to see her perspective on Order 66, the Jedi, and the Inquisitors.

As someone who absolutely hated the new trilogy from the beginning, Im still willing to give the benefit of the doubt of this one. But I hope that she isnt the protagonist. At the very minimum, may they at least not tarnish the originals.

I think her involvement will probably be for the sake of challenging Kenobi with another perspective, making him think for himself regarding the ways of the Jedi, and to add the conflict to his mind of whether or not a dark Jedi can be redeemed.

From what I’m hearing, the plot sounds like a lot like Hawkeye. The show markets it’s main character as Obi-Wan, but will undoubtably be the side female character. Just like with Clint Barton.

After Boba ended I was scared for Obi-wan and once I saw the first trailer I knew it was going to be another disappointment.

I agree with Josh he is so spoton when it comes to Ryan Johnson’s motivations Ryan in his mind believed that a good Star Wars movie wouldn’t necessarily be a movie that people expected as far as Luke is concerned and what Luke is supposed to be doing. I believe he wanted to subvert expectations because he thought it would be a better story he is a director and he has a different view when it comes to what’s going to make an actual movie good. I disagreed with his vision for the most part but Kathleen Kennedy was really into it because it suited her vision as far as making the story about Rey and making sure that it wasn’t about Luke however all things considered they crashed and burned. a lesson learned a little too late
