I realised that the video is going to sound SO CONFUSING because I know it takes place in a New Kingdom and not Hallownest, but I keep referring back BUT HEAR ME OUT! If Hallownest is a tunnel system then there's nothing to say that Kingdoms don't function the same way nor are we given any other reason to suspect that ONLY Hallownest was impacted by the infection since they can spread! So that's why I keep referring back to the plague/plague being lifted haha! Hopefully 2024 will be the year for us to know!! I do very much think this is going to be a prequel though. Hornet's adventure pre-Hallownest when she just dips outta Deep Nest like BYE BESTIES for a brief period of time! Also looking back that is definitely a side quest screen - I saw brew and RAN with it thinking "OHHH COOL STAT BOOSTING OPPORTUNITIES" haha!! My bad!
We need to remember that the infection or the plauge as few reffer to it, was a curse by the radiance placed on specifically hallownest and not anywhere else as far as we know. I agree with the prequell thing tho
@@DIGISCIENTIST True but infections can definitely spread so POSSIBLY more infections could be out there?! We have no clue but it's exciting to speculate and see!
I would like to think that with Hornets Mother gone and the infection was destroyed, hornets go to some new adventure outside hollownest and find this new town and people. But i don't know I'm just hopping this is a cool set up for a sequel
@@sophidarling that is true however the radiance can 99% control the infection and as far as we know she just wanted revange on the pale king and wanted to ruin HIS kingdom, not anyone's else's plus i won't explin it to you, mossbag will ;) expecting that you'll do what you said and make a reaction to the mossbag's silksong trailer analysis
Sophie, you are oficially a hollow knight fan because you've passed the 5 stages: - Find the game; - Get addicted to it; - Explore every nook and cranny possible; - Watch mossbag's lore video; - And lose your mind while waiting for Silksong (Just wait)
@@sophidarling Once you beat THE pantheon, you become yourself an oficial certified gamer (you might lose your mind several times yes, I want to see it all
It's a sequel according to the game description on the Team Cherry site, but who knows, it's been in development for over 5 years now, the tables might've turned a few times lol
@@sophidarling tbf it is a sequel to hollow knight the game, it might still be a prequel to the story, we just don't know. We do know that it takes place in the kingdom of Pharloom. Also responding to some other comments in here, we know that Hornet is kidnapped there so if it is a prequel we know that she didn't leave Hallownest willingly which makes sense because she was basically charged with protecting it. So it being a prequel could still work in that case.
@@sophidarling only in a game development sense the actually placement on the timeline is yet to be confirmed. due to the "Sealed siblings" ending and team cherry's claim that all endings are canon people have speculated on it being a prequel. but we have no reference for the timeline and we may not get anything in the game that places it distinctly before or after hollow knight anyway.
Since Silksong was announced i have gotten into a long term relationship, moved house, gotten married and about to move house again. It feels like i'll have had my honeymoon and have bought a house before this game comes out :I
Fun Fact: there’s a Channel that count down the days of when we get new info about Silksong, if you’re interested? Anyway, I will look forward to see more of your Reactions.
I feel like, from a narrative standpoint, silksong is more likely to be a Sequel, here are a few reasons I think this (also a few reason against my reasons)^^. 1. Hornet tasked herself to protect the kings brand, I doubt she would have left Hallownest at any point during the ongoingness of the infection, since she didn't want any unworthy vessels getting the Kings Brand. Counterpoint- She could have Left during the time where the Hollow Knight and Dreamers did sucessfully delay the spread of infection. 2. How would she still have her memories in hollow knight? We know from Quirrel that anybody who leaves hallownest loses their memories, if hornet left hallownest at any point BEFORE hollow knight how would she still have her memories? Counterpoint- Quirrel seemed to get his memories back after spending a while in Hallownest, while we don't know if this was because of monomon or just his memories coming back naturally due to the exposure to the "holy ground" that is hallownest. If it IS the former that would explain why she still has memories.
BUT is Hornet impacted the same way since she is a Higher Being in being the child of the Pale King? We're not sure if the loss of memories only impacts lesser bugs or ALL! You could very well be right but there is mention that Hornet just disappears and dips from Deepnest and her whereabouts are unknown for a period - perhaps this could be her journey to try and find a cure for Hallownest prior to meeting our Little Knight! Honestly exciting to find out how it all connects!
Well, Pharloom also seems to be a sophisticated kingdom/civilisation and like Sophie said, it might be that she is a higher being and doesn't lose her memories at all. And she didn't willingly leave for Pharloom but she was kidnapped there, maybe the cage kept in her stasis?
@@sophidarling if Hornet is a higher being, wouldn't the Knight (the player) be a higher being as well? Indeed in the first few tablets in the game, it seems odd that they were directed at higher beings, but then YOU read it. And then, at Godhome, we find out that the Knight is the most powerful of the gods Maybe the Knight were a higher being all this time and haven't noticed it.
@@ere4t4t4rrrrr4 the knight is void, YES the knight is a higher being. not quite the same because void is pretty unique. also biggest difference is hornet ISNT void, Horent is the daughter of the pale king and Herra the beast, the vessels are born from the pale king and white lady who put their eggs in the abyss killing them then reviving them as void.
id like to point out that Hornet was kidnapped and ISNT there willingly. also from a narrative point its more likely to be a prequel due to "sealed siblings" and Team cherry claiming "all ending are canon" to be fair they could change their mind on this or not even give any indicator of SIlksongs placement in the timeline and could leave it up to fans interpretation.
@@sophidarling yessss you need to see it! It's amazing and shows wayyyyy more! Shows 2 different areas, and 2 bosses! It's easy to find on youtube ''silksong demo E3 2019'' it's like Nintendo treehouse or something like that!
I actually got teary eye watching the trailer, not the first time since i watch the trailer years ago when I haven't played hk, but now that I played hollow knight recently and experiencing the game was such a wonder I watch the silksong trailer religiously, every new things the trailer promised always gets me soo excited like none other especially hornets ability, visually and design wise it already looked like a better hollow knight. My expectations has never been this high and I'm confident I won't get disappointed once silksong finally released
In my opinion, just like you said, it makes more sense to be a prequel than a sequel. We will see !! but yeah the kingdom looking like that is either a completely different place, or who knows maybe hallownest in all its glory in the far past ! When it was bursting with activity ! Exciting ! We have been waiting for so many years ! I hope it comes out in 2024 ! Damn!
I AM CROSSING ALL MY FINGERS AND TOES!! I know it says New Kingdom but I imagine the Kingdoms are all connected somehow and a lot of the design is very reminiscent of the White Palace but that could just be the Steam Punk Aesthetic they've gone with as it looks similar but more bronze rather than silver!
its confirmed that its a sequel, in fact it takes places almost inmidietly after the first game ending, and somehow all endings are cannon (even the one hornet gets trapped inside the black egg). As far as we can see it seems like if horent was captured by some bugs and transpoted her, we dont know if toward Pharloom (the kingdom of the second game, and the kingdom where the weavers, the ones that took care of and trained hornet when she was little, belong) or after that Hornet goes there because she wants or maybe because hallownest its a completely mess
I'm from Portugal and I barely watched the video but I already loved your channel and your personality + 1 subscriber :) Unfortunately, I've been waiting for the release since 2019 like many here, you're very lucky to have discovered the hollow knight community now, you won't have to wait THAT LONG for the release of silksong, if it comes out this year of course 💀
There is gameplay from silksong demos at E3 and other events that you can find on RU-vid and maybe react to, I got to play at the 2019 gamescom event and there really are a lot of interesting things :) Obs: mossbag also made a video about this demo
Omg welcome on in!! I really am so lucky to have found HK when the wait time isn't as long! I've read some comments where people have been waiting 7 years?! Like holy moly!! Also thank you for mentioning about the Silksong Demos! I didn't realise that was a thing!!
I was a freshman in high school (15) when I watched the Nintendo treehouse live video. I am going to turn 20 in less than a month and we still going strong this is silksongs year I swear :’)
I know I only discovered it this year but I think in 2017 I was just starting my Master's Degree and moving to Northern Ireland which is WILD to think about!
Silksooooong!! Joining us in being excited XD Hoping it won't be too long??????? Famous last words lol. People were hoping it would come out 2023, including Team Cherry, so. Hoping it will be this year
Oh, btw, Hornet was originally supposed to become a playable character for Hollow Knight. Then instead of being implemented, it grew into its own game. I don't know whether it's supposed to be a sequel or prequel but it makes me wonder exactly how it grew into its own game when, you'd think, originally it was supposed to take place around the same time. I'm guessing prequel? But I don't know....
@@elainexe Oh that is really interesting!! Maybe in development they realised that they had all these ideas for Hornet's character and move set that just wouldn't have fit in with Hollow Knight? Or maybe they cut her content to give her another storyline as they felt Hollow Knight was best focused on one character rather than split between two!
@@elainexe I thought Hornet was meant to have DLC-like content in HK at first but not sure. One of the bigger arguments (but probably also a lot of what Sophie just mentioned), as seen in mossbag's lore video as well, was that she was too big for Hallownest. To make her movement and combat style work and make sense for the character, they realised she needed her own 'space'. And....somehow it turned into a whole new kingdom and Silksong^^
its so hard to watch the first trailer without getting emotional lol i tear up every time. im so attached to hollow knight i lowkey dont know if im gonna be able to handle actually playing silksong when it comes out
Yesss! I don't know if you can watch the whole thing for a reaction, copyright or smth, but that video was a wonderful short look at the gameplay and the world. And the women playing/talking were also lovely imo
i'm convinced in my head canon that this happens before the events of the game she did mention that she took too long to come back when we first met her (atleast that's what i remember from the French version of the game) But srsly IVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST 5Years😢
THAT'S MY IMPRESSION TOO!! Primarily because the Midwife mentioned that Hornet disappeared but if she was in Hallownest, they would have known and she would have returned to visit? Seems odd to mention a disappearance if she stayed in the same place, right?!
Prequel feels the most sensible order of things, but it's hard to say since Silk Song started of as a DLC for Hollow Knight, that then grew so big that team cherry decided to make it its own game. Hornet was also born in Hallownest, so she would have had to leave at some point and then return, just as the Knight seemingly did. Ofc the plans for games change a lot during production, and the story's placement too might have taken a drastic turn since Silk Song got separated from Hollow Knight. Either way, we all have to just wait and see🥴
I honestly am so excited to see where they take it because it will be nothing SHORT OF A MASTERPIECE!! I imagine Team Cherry also are trying to make sure it's absolutely perfect considering how beloved Hollow Knight has become. Silksong has big shoes to fill!
You have to réalise, some of us have been waiting for Silksomg since BEFORE Hollow knight actually came out! Silksong was original à DLC for HK, and it got to à point where it was just too big, and it became its own game. But this was announced during the hollow knight kickstarter campagne! We've been waiting for over 7 years for silksong hahaha Just to put it in perspective.... Imagine waiting THAT LONG for the 2nd game that we all love sooooo much....
Dude, we’ve been DYING to play this game for almost 5 years at this point 😭😭 Every direct comes, we get our hopes up, and it doesn’t get released. It’s been painful. Come join us in our pain
Congratulations on your grand play-through! It has been a blast, I loved feeding our "wise" zote presets to you. your perspective on the game created such a delite to watch you figure out the lore and discover the secrets within the realm of hallownest. Happy new year (ish)
Silksong hasnt been confirmed as a prequel or sequel yet, its been referred to as a "sequel" because it is the 2nd game in the Hollow knight franchise but has yet to be placed on the HK timeline. As for the "long" development time there is multiple reasons as to why its still in development, Team cherry consists of only 3 developers, the game has currently been in development for 5.5-6 years which is pretty standard for smaller indie games with larger teams, the overall scope and size of the game growing as they wanted to do more than their initial plan. their initial plan leads us back to the development of the original hollow knight with their Kickstarter, one of the goals that was reached on the Kickstarter promised a Paid DLC for an additional playable charcter(hornet) this of course never happened due to certain limitations of Hornets character design and the size of the games map which would lead them to having to create a new map and even more additions for the DLC, thus they decided to expand the DLC into a full new game initially going to be similar in size to hollow knight, now growing to even larger proportions as they have the money and time to fully flesh out and develop this new game, as to why this matters has to do with the games announcement, Fans knew of the "Hornet DLCs" production and were expecting it but due to it expanding into a separate game Team cherry essentially had to announce the game in order to explain why the DLC was taking so long and why there was no news on it. the lack of news then transferred to silksong as the game had grown in scale, Team cherry did initially put out blog posts after the games announcement but stopped after December in order to focus more on the games development rather then spend a week planning a blog post that spoiled game content, afterward team cherry would rarely give news on the game only giving us a little bit of news through various means but nothing large or very mainstream until 2022 with the 2nd trailer. the main problem is the complete radio silence from the devs, when all they really need to do is give us a small update on if they're still working on it or if they're even alive.
You are one of us 🙃 I think it will be a sequel. I don’t think Hornet was born prior to the first game since she is the child of Hera the Beast and Pale King. But everything is possible.
I dont think it's a prequel honestly.. In the trailer we see much of new something kind of weapons, and in our 2nd fight with hornet she just use very few of those. And she have so much things to protect, like protecting hallownest from intruder that's probably a threat like Quirrel, and protecting the king's brand and the hollow knight from weak vessels that escaped the abyss etc.. She just have so much things to protect. And hornet was supposed to be raised by 3 queens (Herrah, White Lady, and Hive Queen Vespa) so during the time before hollow knight failed and the infection spread, she probably trained to fight by vespa.. Just a theory though.
Of course! I think everyone's theories are super interesting and valid - I just like the concept of a prequel and what Hornet did prior. But you may be right since the drill dive she does is a technique seen by the bees so would indicate that she's already been trained by Vespa at this point!
According to what I’ve seen, it would make sense for Silksong to come Feb - Mar of 2024 since last year they tried before mid way of the year, but couldn’t, so to keep the tradition, it’ll be released between Feb - Mar. TotK was delayed a year for polish alone, so Silksong seems to be following that and I’m sure team cherry won’t disappoint, even if the game after Silksong, isn’t Hollow Knight related
I think it'd be cool if you reacted to the Nintendo Treehouse Live on Silksong, it shows I think like 25 minutes of gameplay if I remember correctly of the first couple areas of the game, as well as a couple boss fights, and the hosts reveal some neat lore and gameplay stuff :)
If you’re interested in more Hollow knight content there’s actually a couple fan mods that adds a ton of stuff; I highly recommend the pale court mod where you actually get to fight against the other 4 great knights Also if you’re interested in reacting to more HK content, there’s this guy Rusty who’s done a couple ranking videos on the bosses and charms that I think you’d find fun
...And now we wait. I'm also betting on a prequel. The midwife in Deepnest said that Hornet has long been distant, which probably refers to her (involuntary?) sortie to Pharloom. Quite a lot of time has passed between Hornet's birth and the knight's arrival. Her mother sacrificed herself to a doomed cause, her father secluded himself in his palace and her half-siblings where either sealed in the black egg or the abyss. I know she had a duty to the kingdom, but that doesn't mean that she was always dutiful as she is in the first game. Maybe a younger Hornet ran off like a rebellious teenager.
RIGHT?! That's the vibe I'm getting based off the Midwife inferring that she was gone for so long. That to me doesn't sound like a jaunt around Hallownest because she would return to see her mother and such if so? Plus she's exploring Hallownest much the same way we are. Almost as if she's trying to decipher what's happened too!
I am pretty sure this is a sequel since it takes place in a new kingdom "Pharloon" Hornet was born during the infection, we already saw all of Hallownest and Hornet never left hallownest since she was born during the game
Maybe I'm misremembering but I'm pretty sure there's mentions by the Midwife that Hornet disappeared for a while and was greatly missed? Maybe that was because she was exploring Hallownest or perhaps she was off adventuring elsewhere! It's exciting to find out though!
we don't know if hornet was there the whole time and has even been implied she had left Hallownest for a period of time. Hornet also isn't in Pharloom on purpose and was kidnapped. Its most likely that team cherry leaves it HEAVILY up to interpretation giving evidence of it being both before or after Hollowknight and likely making 1 slightly more plausible.
My understanding is that Silksong was originally planned to be a prequel (back when it was just a DLC for Hollow Knight), but after being expanded into a full game it was changed to be a sequel instead. Source: I have no idea this is just what I picked up over the years.
so glad ur actually in the fandom now!! idk if you ever knew this but some people are already shipping hornet with that white lady shes fighting (me too lol). i love that this fandom is v chill and has tons of queer headcanons for the characters lol. i rlly like the nonbinary knight idea. if you think about it, it kinda makes sense!
You know what - I can see it. It's a very ROMANTIC setting with the white roses which can symbolise innocence, purity, but also eternal love and new beginnings?! So maybe there's a conscious choice behind the choice of white roses rather than any other colour!
6:54 it literally can't be her origin story this must be after hollow knight, hornet was born during infection, then she was training under queen vespa, that's why she's named hornet and then she was guarding hallownest until lil ghost appeared
there is no evidence that hornet was in hollownest the entire time, there has even been evidence suggesting she hadn't been in hollownest for a period of time. also the EXACT same argument could be made for a sequel due to "Sealed Siblings" and team cherry claiming all ending are canon(they could backtrack on this statement but it still stands) also the "vespa trained hornet" thing isn't official, and is cut content, with no evidence for it being true or false.
@@theender664 yeah, although I’m very partial to the VERY likely idea that team cherry makes suggestions for it being both before or after hollow knight and it’s placement being up to interpretation, with SLIGHTLY more evidence towards one. Or outright not making ANY suggestions of its place in the timeline and it being completely ignored
NO IT DIDNT the game started full time development in september 2018 after Void heart edition released on Xbox. as there was 3 free DLCs Team cherry initially worked on, before they made godhome in 2018. and BEFORE that they were trying to figure out how to make the paid "hornet DLC" that they scrapped and replaced with silksong, this being because in order to make hornet playable they would need to make an entire new map and other new additions to the game due to her size, so they decided to expand it into its own game. the announcement in 2019 was due to it initially being a paid DLC promised by their funding goals for the original game and needing to announce it as a full game instead, along with the unknown scope of the game at the time.
@@sophidarling it actually has only been in development for about 5.5 years, because the 4 free DLC's and Voidheart edition on Xbox took up the dev time of TWO people (the third left after release with Jack vine joining on for silksong).
@@grapesoda7075 5 years for a 2D sidescroller. This game should be fully 3d by now gimme a break. And they don’t wanna say absolutely anything about the progress. Like what the fuck is going on lol
@@grapesoda7075 2D side scrollers shouldn’t take this long to make. It should’ve been fully 3d by now. And they don’t want to say absolutely anything about the progress. I feel like something has fucked up and they’re taking forever to figure that shit out.
If this was a prequel Hornet wouldn’t remember Herrah being her mother, what the Knight is, what happened with the siblings and wouldn’t know where kings brand is in Hollow Knight
I would agree with that if not for the fact that I think Hornet is a Higher Being or at least a more advanced type of bug due to being the child of a Higher Being (Pale King). So if she is, then the memory loss may not work on her! :D
well there's nothing stated about ANY of that in silksong and all of these things are already known to hornet before the plot of hollow knight, theres even suggestions that hornet didnt always remain in hollownest before the events of the game, infact hornet was kidnapped in silksong. if it is a prequel there very much so is a possibility of her retaining her memories, hell it wouldn't matter if its a prequel or sequel if she lost her memories, the silk could have protected her memories, her being a higher being could protect her memories, the sealed cage in the beginning could have protected her memories. we cant make these kind of assumptions yet
If Silksong turns out to be a prequel at least Team Cherry won't kill the protagonist this time around. I'd prefer a sequel, not knowing what's going to happen to Hornet will make gameplay way more exciting.
@@Cristofercat so it’s actually 8 years not 5 which is very bizarre for a 2d platformer. A game they’re already familiar with how to develop since they were done with the 1st game that only took 3 years to make. Very strange if you ask me
