That was a very traumatic night for Cebuanos in central cebu. Imagine yung feeling na nasa isang corner ka lang and nag pe pray na lahat ng family member mo and mga pinaghirapan ay okay lang after the typhoon pass. The feeling was indescribable with all that smashing and strong whisper of the winds. It was like dooms day na ata that night. Very scary experience. 😔

I'm from Southern Leyte and our province was badly hit by Typhoon Odette, too. The strong winds and rain started at 2 P.M. and ended at 10 P.M. We had witnessed how our entire roof was ripped out by the strong winds. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced in my 25 years of existence.

Imagine building a beautiful dream home. Then your only defence is hiding in a closet. Cebu is prone to natural events. Extreme weather and the hydrological consequences of climate almost ensure that what they experienced will be amplified several times. Its fairly easy to prepare. Build a room specially. Shutters for the windows. Remove things in your garden that will essentially become missiles. Spend one hour with your house staff and family preparing a plan. These people " who are excited to talk about there drama" so they can have a video to post on youtube -while other people are dying and losing their entire neighbourhood. They are exaggerating because there cctv camera was moving around. Only because said camera was key to recording they entire thing. such a dissapointment. This video could of been something educational- instead its just some new money filipinos talking about luck when facing mother nature. Then attempting to commiserate with their invisble neighbours.

I also feel blessed that we have a durable house. The winds were so strong I thought our roof would be ripped out and glass windows broken, but thank God there were no damages from typhoon Odette, buyag. Looking forward to your upcoming project/video for a “doomsday prep” home because my parents are also planning to build a new house away from the city for their retirement. Thank you for always sharing your ideas, Slater!

This reminds me how scary Yolanda was when naglandfall siya dito sa tacloban, good thing di ako masyadong nagkatrauma after kahit i experienced worse than this. But anyways, people shouldn’t take typhoon lightly, taclobanons thought it was just a normal typhoon so yep lesson learned yun samin, i hope same goes to everyone, must learn from the experience of others than experiencing it yourself tapos dun lng tayo ulit magiging ready. Good thing people already know what super typhoon is and storm surge so karamihan sa victims of Odette were kind of ready na. Stay Safe and Bangon Siargao, Cebu, Southern Leyte! 💪🏻

yes the sound of the wind is scary gives me goosebumps everytime buti nalang di nalipad bubong nang bahay namin although yung roof namin way back 90s pa. siguro may stronger yung materials dati EDIT: 12am-2am kami dito sa Negros tinamaan. So it was pitch black although our house was surrounded by solar lights na bumuhay samin sa 7 days na blackout. 🥲 Blackout here was around 7:30pm. Partida here in Bacolod di kami halos tinatamaan nang malakas na calamities. The last time the oldies recalled was 1990 bagyong Ruping? then during Odette.

why not mount a frame outside the glass walls where you can slide wood slabs to protect it during typhoons? i also dream of having a glass house but after seeing this… i’m not sure anymore. typhoons are getting stronger year after year. we should not only focus on aesthetics in constructing our safe havens.
@ent3ngk4bis0te
@ent3ngk4bis0te 2 года назад
A pure glass house is still very much possible in any typhoon prone country like the Philippines as long as you have the budget to spend on the kind of glass that is rated for a category 5 typhoon. Triple clad glass windows with a rating for a 10 pounds projectile at speeds of 300kph would be the safest. I am exaggerating here but be better on the safe side. Common usage in the Philippines is just a single clad tempered glass. That is only good for accidental kicks and bumps of objects. Not intended for flying objects at high speeds which typhoons can throw at anything specially windows and door glasses.

I am surprised you do not have hurricane blinds. They are metal exterior blinds that you only close when expecting a hurricane they roll up at the top of windows and are in a container and you pull them down. Rolling shutters do exactly what you think they would: roll up and down. When not in use (a.k.a. when the weather's great and there's no storm on the forecast), this type of hurricane protection can also provide your home with additional insulation and privacy without sacrificing aesthetic. Some selections (like Roll-a-way's StormSafe Rolling Shutters), can even be controlled with remotes.

7-8pm I was still tying the roof of my girlfriends house and it was a 2 storey house so it was really high. It's not seen in the video but the winds really whistle like in the movies and when it hits your face it felt like getting slapped with something hard doesn't really hurt but you can really feel the rain and wind slapping the heck out of you. I think it was 9 pm that I abandoned the roof and evacuated my girlfriend and her mother to the 1st floor and waited till it was over. -stay safe everyone. Ai kalimot social distancing 😘

Oh yes I am so interested to know what type of cctv you got there that doesnt require wifi, coz its hard to depend everything on wifi, like, what if there is a newtwork maintenance then we need to get an important footage...our cctv's here are old, the old school type with the dvr and stuff, and planning maybe to switch to an IP, but I thought, my concern is it is indeed wifi dependent...so I am so looking forward to your next vlog and enlighten us which one is smarter to get...

we should not forget the aesthetics din. It may not protect your house from strong winds. It may not give you less bills. But it will give you inner healing. We should remember that space,form,colors,texture,scale,even the smell of the house greatly affects our wellbeing. We call it,psychology of space. Remember that we have senses,and need nourishment too. Love and light.

We avoided alot of damages because we are already used to typhoons. My advice is that protect your house with all that you can. I remember when we had a typhoon and my grandpa did not fully closed our our windows like there's a very small gap in the windows and he just put some sticks for the windows to not move. He told us na para daw mag flow yung hangin sa loob ng bahay and all our doors were open pa so nung nagtyphoon, I remember na lakas ng hangin sa loob ng bahay namin. After the typhoon, the houses in our neighborhood got destroyed and out house was just chilling with few leaks lang. Idk but I always do this when there's typhoon coming and so far it never do us no harm. Thank god. I'm not sure but it probably has something to do with wind pressure of whatnots.

I truly enjoy your videos! Did you build and design your place? Planning our move there. If you don't mind, can you recommend any great trusted home builders in Cebu or maybe your company. Thank you!

Mukhang need na dagdagan ng support ang i beams at columns ☺️ Medyo kahinaan talaga nya yung both side nya nagbebend. Always take care to all ❤️

Considering that the skypod's location is high, wind pressure effects are greater.

Yung big glass windows/doors talaga eh. That was also our concern nung odette. We were so scared because we also had big glass windows that were bending, we thought it was gonna break. Makalisang sa ngatanan. Seriously lahat ng sinabi nyo sa vlog na to natamaan talaga ako kasi ganun din yung thoughts and feelings ko that time. Dli na gyud nako ibalewala akong pagka paranoid huehue the time when I needed it most was when I didn't take it srsly.

I feel sad and worry kay wala napid daw siya kasabot ug unsa jud iyaha. I hope this video serves as her inspiration Slater. Because you are such an inspiration (and also my regrets ngano dili Engineering ako gikuha sauna). Gob bless sa tanan projects pa nimo Eng. Young.
