Where does think rank with Batman movies??
@stuartpanton8531
@stuartpanton8531 2 года назад
For me, joint first with Batman Begins! Yep, I prefer both of them to TDK!! This was a perfect blend of being a detective story about a serial killer, and being about Batman's development, about becoming more of a hero, becoming more subtle (the three different ways in which he gets into the club!), and also about the Wayne legacy, warts and all.

It's the most accurate Live Action Batman movie ever made, that's why I consider it the best, when we're talking in terms of just Batman movies. But as a movie, it's tied with The Dark Knight if not slightly lower, verrrrrry slightly though.

I really liked Robert Pattinson's Batman and the whole "he's still Batman 24/7, an isolated young boy with zero social skills" phase. This must be a slap to the haters that give him hell for accepting the role. The whole casting, even the extras, where killing it, amazing performances. Riddler stealed the show in every scene, loved this new Catwoman and Gotham feels like Gotham, the aesthetic and music on point, I see also the Arkham games influence.

I love the double fake out on whether the Riddler knows Batman's identity. At first he definitely knows, but the letter is fireproof. Then he addresses him as Bruce, until you realize it's just a psychotic rant. These subtleties really add to the character. He has the intellect to figure it out, but he's so psychotically consumed by his revenge mission that he refuses to see that his hero and his enemy are the same person

Here’s the thing. The irony was that you could say “the evidence was all there” concerning Batman’s identity from riddlers point of view, but he can’t imagine his psychopathic fantasized version of his idol somehow being Bruce Wayne. No matter how true or obvious, he could never come to terms with that idea. This is even funnier when you consider when riddler said “you mean you didn’t figure it out?”

Btw, Riddler does NOT know Bruce Wayne is Batman. That "For the Batman" card was for Batman to collect and see after he has reached the crime spot, finding a dead Bruce Wayne there, just like what happened with the Mayor, Commissioner and DA, and after they were murdered, Batman collected those cards from each crime scene.

Matt Reeves directed his ass off in this movie So much of this movie was just well done. Rob's acting, Paul's acting, Zoe's acting, Colin's acting, Turturro's acting, all the characters were well developed with motives and arcs that felt complete, the character of batman and the relationships he has with everyone else are not only fleshed our but deeply understood, just a well made film. Whether it's your favorite is up to you (I'm still a dark knight guy) but it's definitely an incredibly well crafted movie.

Love the amount of references from comics they fit into this. Serial killings beginning on Halloween: The Long Halloween Batman suit aesthetic: New 52/Telltale/Arkham Origins Catwoman aesthetic: Year One Thomas Wayne saving Falcone: The Long Halloween Colson refusing to snitch: Ego Catwoman being Falcones daughter: The Long Halloween Wayne family involvement in corruption: Court of Owls/Telltale Flooding of Gotham: Zero Year/No Man’s Land Probably missed way more, just so much for a comic book fan to pick apart!

Martha being an Arkham on her mothers side is from Geoff John’s Earth One. Martha is an Arkham on her mother’s side and a Kane on her fathers. The Wayne, Kane, and Arkham are founding families of Gotham. I hope they tie that in with the court of owls.

There's also the Hush references: The reporter who threatened to expose Martha's history had the last name Elliot (as in Thomas Elliot, aka Hush), and a bit more on the nose the word "Hush" over Riddler's film reel exposing that truth.

I love how emo he is i mean he lost his parents and Robert himself said that it's like Bruce never really got over his parents' death, its like he's been grieving his whole life, that's why he's such a recluse that lives with a weight on his back, feeling that he has a duty to protect the city and hopes to see it changing for the better. The things he does for the city, the batman, is all he has left and i just love how human batman is in this movie. Also the detective vibe really made me feel antsy in a good way i loved it sooo much. And the way the scenes were shot especially that car chase scene like the sounds of the batmobile got me goosebumps and the catwoman's POV ughhh soo good!! also i LOVE how we literally watch him being portrayed as "the vengeance" but then becoming a true hero in the end, not only getting the bad guys, but also actually saving people.

This is year 2 Batman. He’s still starting up and trying to establish himself as the Worlds Best Detective. This is before he figures out that it’s necessary for him to use his “Bruce Wayne” appearance to get close to people and collect information outside of being Batman. He hasn’t really figured out who he is and who he wants to be as his Batman alter-ego is at the forefront. I love that Matt Reeves decided to go with this version of Batman rather than an origin Batman or a Batman who’s already been in the scene for years.

The shot of Batman leading the people to safety is quite possibly one of my favorite Batman moments in all of history. My favorite Batman is the one who actually tries to help people. In the animated series, he not only donated to charities, he volunteered at them himself. If he found someone in need of a job, he'd offer them one or help them get one. He tried to actually help his enemies that were victims of circumstance or poor choices, like Clayface, Two Face, he even tried to help Harley Quinn when she was trying to turn over a new leaf. He did his best to address the causes for the crime just as much as he did his best to stop criminals. One of my earliest Batman memories is watching the Justice League animated series; the members of the league with superpowers are trying to put a fire out, and he is the first one to dive into the burning building to save a trapped child and tells her not to be scared. Confronting a sleep deprived and distraught mother who is about to kill her baby because she's seeing it as a demon and trying to get her some help because she's unwell. In Justice League, sitting with Ace and holding her hand as she's dying instead of killing her like everyone has been saying he needs to. This is a facet of Batman that DC movies have been forgetting about for a long time; even the Christian Bale ones that I love never really showed Batman helping people, he just talked about protecting the city. The Batman I love actually wants to help people and shows compassion to people who deserve it, especially in his early years before he became jaded. This movie actually gets it; we see Batman go from the guy who just wants to punch the bad guys out and take them down. Who cares if people are scared? That's the point. And by the end, he's the Batman that I love, the one who is first to dive in and help the people.

'its so cool that even the civilians are scared of him' No It's not That's kinda the point of the entire film In the first batman fight scene, he looks at the victim with disdain. Doesn't even try to reassure him. Doesn't hold out his hand to help him up In the final battle he hears the terrorists use his own 'i am vengence' and realised that vengeance is bitter and twisted. That's when he chooses to become a hero. Sacrificing himself by cutting the electrical cord. Cleansing himself in the water below. One thing I'm excited for is Barry Keoghan's portrayal as the joker (seen talking to Riddler near the end, as I'm sure we're all aware lol) my only reason for being excited is that as of recently, Irish people have been getting big roles in huge superhero blockbusters, and being from Ireland myself, it was always a dream of mine to act in a superhero movie, whether it be Marvel or DC, but I thought it'd never be possible because I had never seen an Irish actor make it that big. Barry Keoghan grew up literally 14 minutes from where I live, Colin Ferrell too (the penguin), he's from an area like 20 minutes away from my house, and it brings such joy to me to see fellow Irish people get somewhere in life.

The Riddler never finds out Bruce is Batman in this movie, you guys misunderstood those scenes. He was trying to kill Bruce and left the fireproof note for "Batman" to find because he doesn't realize they're the same person. He loves "Batman" but hates Bruce Wayne. That's why in the interrogation room he says Bruce "is the only one we didn't get". Once he says that, Batman realizes Riddler actually doesn't know his identity and steps up to the window. Bruce Wayne represents everything Riddler never had in his life, he despises him, yet another reason he tries to kill him. That bomb was meant for Bruce, not Alfred. It would make absolutely no sense if he knew that Bruce was Batman.

@@JoshieboyStudios The dialogue in the interrogation room would make no sense if that were the case though. And they definitely would have addressed it later in the movie. Riddler knowing Batmans secret identity would be a huge deal for him, they wouldn't just gloss over it and not bring it up again later lol. The entire scene in that interrogation room is clearly supposed to be Batman misunderstanding why Riddler keeps repeating "Bruce Wayne". He initially thinks Riddlers addressing him, but then realizes he's actually just repeating it out of spite because he's angry that "he's the only one they(Batman and Riddler) didn't get". Again, this line makes no sense if he knew they were the same person.

@JoshieboyStudios 2 года назад
@@shawntlucas90 It does when he knows there are cameras in the room. Riddler is a character who always likes to know more than others. If the information got out that Bruce is Batman, then he would have outed his “partner” and would render the info would be worthless to him. He sees it as Gotham’s ultimate riddle that only he knows I n the comics. Him repeating the name with a smirk could easily be from him taunting Batman. It would also explain why the pictures of Bruce in his apartment were marked with “I know who you really are”. It wouldn’t make sense if it just meant that Bruce was corrupt, because we know Riddler only wanted Bruce head because of his father.

You'll be happy to know that a sequel has already been officially announced. Yeah Matt Reevea specifically said it was a crime noir. He knows the Batman comics inside and out. Pattinson is also a big Batman fan. This is my favorite Batman movie. I loved all of the character development, especially with Batman. People forget sometimes that he's human and even he has to start somewhere. I found it interesting that he sees no value in being Bruce Wayne right now. He was so obsessed with being Batman that he even pushed Alfred away. It'll be interesting to watch that duality take shape when he createsthat Bruce persona. Pattinson is an incredible actor so I'm not worried about him pulling Bruce Wayne off. The acting he had to do for this movie was mainly with his eyes and the more I watch it, the more nuances I notice. Or the more details like even the weather report on the news was all fog, rain, drizzle etc lol. You guys should check out some of Pattinsons other movies like The Devil All The Time or The Lighthouse w him and Willem Defoe, tho that movie is pretty f'ed up so probably not good for a reaction 😅 I'm hoping Catwoman will be back for another movie. Zoe Kravitz is my favorite Catwoman so far. They had great chemistry too and it didn't feel forced at all. The Batmobile... omg the whole theater shook when it fired up. No lie. It was crazy. yesss, this movie is so beautiful visually (and the score is FANTASTIC, the main theme taking the same chords from "Something In The Way" and re-arranging the rhythm into a funeral dirge is CHILLING). I love the grey-blue early morning shots so much. I had the same reaction near the end, to the guy saying "I'm Vengeance." That moment where Bruce realizes what he's ACTUALLY become and what people see in The Batman is such a huge impact. And I feel like it ties into a lot of other modern depictions of Batman too, where he's more like a mercenary than the hero he's supposed to be.

I loved how they wrote Batman to make an organic mistake! He could have figured out the Riddler’s plan to flood the city had he not assumed that his identity was compromised. I love the writing in this film!!! Such a great reveal when you find out Batman’s identity is still an enigma to Riddler.

All I have to say is I love this movie. U guys had a great discussion and I know the other comments will discuss some of the details of this movie further so I just wanna say how much I love this movie. It's a totally different avenue to a batman movie so I can see why maybe it wouldn't be up there with someone's fav batman films but for me this is top 2. As a film it's fantastic and as a batman story it's so fresh and interesting. This was my most anticipated movie since the teaser came out in 2020 and my expectations were blown out of the water. Im so glad u guys enjoyed it! Edit: Actually side note I did want to bring something up after further listening to ur discussion. One of my favorite things about this movie and the filmmaking specifically was almost this stylistic theme of voyeurism. The way the camera would follow something almost as if if was from a first person POV, how the beginning started literally from the riddler's pov through binoculars, the focus/blur thing u guys were talking about, and the close intimate shots. And it makes sense cuz it's a detective film, and so it shows batman being observant and looking and spying on everything he can and the audience was brought into that. It felt like we as an audience were constantly there viewing what the batman was seeing as he was seeing it and through his perspective and we as an audience were constantly being watched as well. It all felt very intimate and I think that's one thing that sets it apart from other batman films, specifically the nolan trilogy. cuz nolan's felt so big, with the massive wide sweeping aerial shots, to the fast movement and cutting between shots and scenes and the massive explosions and action sequences. whereas this movie had so many close ups, pov shots, and LONG takes that made the viewer feel like they were there.

I live near Liverpool where a lot of Gotham was filmed. I’ve walked past the St George’s Hall (Gotham City Hall) countless times, and it’s maybe a factor in why I see this as the most grounded Gotham. It feels like a lived in the city. I don’t know, maybe people from Chicago feel the same way about Nolan Gotham. But I really like this Gotham City.

I just saw this movie & I'm tired of saying this...but, another batman movie is the greatest superhero flick going so far! I don't know how many times I said, "Beautiful Scene or Beautiful Shot" while watching this movie, lol. *The opening with the music & Batman's Dialogue w/ everybody being scared of the dark was great. But, the whole symbolic part where he jumped onto the electrical cable, cuts it off with the batarang on his chest after that henchman used the same line that he did in the beginning of the movie, "I'm Vengeance"...realizing he was wrong. Then falls into the water, re-emerges "reborn"/"baptized" anew, becomes a symbol that he is..leading everybody by example with the flare/"Guiding Light" and gets their trust & gets them to come together/help each other, etc... I liked the little nod that Batman injected "Venom Toxin" into himself & he went into overkill mode that damn near smashed that guy's face in...Then finally, the shot of Batman riding away on the motorcycle, but staring at catwoman riding away in the side/rear view mirror, but "objects are closer than they appear" when looking through rear view mirrors, lol... Yeah, great movie... (Colin Farrell played The Penguin and whoever did his prosthetics makeup deserves all kinds of rewards! There's supposed to be a HBO MAX penguin series from this Batman Universe, but how Discovery is cancelling everything now, I doubt it.)*

I was waiting for your guys’ reaction - since ya’ll just watched Joker, and Seven relatively recently. I was skeptical about this one, I’ll admit, but both Pattinson and Paul Dano KILLED in this movie. My only complaint is that it wasn’t rated R. Just to step it up a notch. Great flick tho. The use of “Something In The Way” was pretty ingenious, fits perfectly. Always been one of my favorites from Nirvana.

A thing about Alfred Pennyworth.... He's not just some run of the mill stuff upper lip butler from England.... Alfred once served under the royal secret service to the Queen of England... And is a retired MI-6 OPERATIVE... So don't underestimate Alfred.... And the reasons why Alfred is Bruce's legal guardian is because Thomas asked Alfred to be.... Alfred practically volunteered....

i specially loved the fact that most of Batman's gadgets felt way more "real" than those from other movies. In those, he has very convenient gadgets that work because "something something science", like his cape, and the Batmobile is basically a tank. In here, thou there are still some futuristic things that we can't know how they work (like the recording contacts), the main things are pretty realistic, like him having a wingsuit consieled as his cape, or the batmobile being a car with a tuned engine.

I really liked this movie and I saw it twice in cinema. Yes it drags out and yes there are some plot holes and odd bumps in the movie but the pure talent in it is admirable. The acting is good, especially the riddler’s. Robert Pattison did very well too. The cinematography is incredible and the music is phenomenal. The music adds so much and it’s exactly what music is supposed to do for a movie. It makes you feel more emotion and it’s honestly the best music I’ve ever heard. The new Batman theme is incredible, I love it. The third act sorta annoyed me with how long and unnecessary it is and I personally think it would be better without the flood but it’s okay. Everything else makes up for the bad parts. I’m asexual so I’m not inclined to like a movie just for a character’s attractiveness so I pay attention the talent and how much effort and creativeness something takes. I appreciate more than someone’s looks lol

Tons of '70s thriller & noir homage in this movie. Echoes heavily & especially "All The President's Men," with a fair amount from "Klute" ...and also the car chase with mounted cameras, etc., putting you right in the chase, sometimes driving recklessly against traffic, is very much referencing the iconic chase from "The French Connection." (Also: the deleted Joker sequence heavily references the first Hannibal Lecter movie, "Manhunter.") But the pitch for this Bruce Wayne was the depiction of Kurt Cobain in "Last Days" by Gus Van Sant. (Hence the Nirvana track.) The idea that Bruce at this point has an addiction to the Batman, and the test is for him to become something more, is really compelling & has never been done before. Also: for me, it's the ONLY Batman movie to date that actually depicts him, at least for a moment, being superhuman. Which happens all the time in the comics.

This movie (while based on the DC characters) draws more from Neo Noir films than it does the comics. Granted it has elements and call backs to the comics. But more of it comes from 70s noir and 90s psychological thriller. It's a very non traditional take on the DC characters. But it works very well.
