Buring books and libraries always makes me feel we lost so much of history. The only fraction of Human existence captured in writing, gets even smaller

Yeah, I shudder when I imagine how much human history has been lost to humid environments decaying paper books or simply oral histories passing out of memory.

I bet the fires are all started civilization-building aliens to cover their omni-present tracks. I mean what are the chances that there'd be several instances of things being burned, information things, all across the globe through out many centuries? Almost every human invention, ancient to modern day, is secretly the doing of time-travel alien angels. Our only genuine achievement is making so many varieties of flavored Oreos.

About Indian Ocean interconnectivity in the past: It is a Legendary account first documented by the Spanish but according to tradition the Hindu Rajahnate of Cebu in the modern day Philippines was founded by a prince descended from the royal family of the Tamil Chola maritime empire. Specifically through their influence over Sumatra.

I like the inclusion of the Polish-Haitian connection and Kościuszko! There's actually a bit of controversy about how many of the Legionaries joined the Haitians, but that might have something to do with the handful of officers who came back to Europe and continued to fight for Napoleon (like Kazimierz Lux, who also was a pirate for a bit) minimalizing the whole thing. History with Hilbert made a good video about this whole subject. Kościuszko is pronounced something like "Kosh-chioosh-koh," with the first "sh" and "ch" sounds being soft, kinda like in Japanese. BTW, he was born in the Lithuanian part of the Commonwealth (in what is now Belarus) and many Lithuanias and Belarusians also considered him their hero.

Australia’s highest mountain was named after Kosciuszko, named Mount Kosciuszko (previously spelled Kosciusko, and pronounced as Kozzy-oss-ko). It was named by a Polish explorer Pavel Strzelecki because of it’s resemblance to Kościuszko Mound in Krakow, Poland. I like hearing about what a top bloke Kościuszko was. It’s sort of fitting to name the highest mountain after such a giant of history.
@Argacyan

23:40 a lot of these pattern recognition things & conspiracies, as said here, do rely on people not as much being confused with history alone but also with confusion surrounding the basics of other fields. You often see this with geology, or broadly physics etc.
@CogitoEdu
@CogitoEdu Год назад
Yeah I tend to see the obsession and proliferation of conspiracies as a systemic educational failure than some sort of personal failure. If people do not have the information or tools to combat disinformation than you can hardly blame them for falling for that kind of stuff. There's a reason it's usually pre-history or pre-Columbian history that has so many conspiracies attached to it, they're some of the least taught history.

American History is very much the same. The world started and then there was the Revolution (there was only one, ever), and only bad, unpatriotic people didn't rebel, because everyone agreed that the King was awful. And from then on, everyone knew the US was the Best.

@andrewmoore7014

Same with the US and Canada. None of these countries want to confront their mistreatment of the nations they harmed, in part because they are still greatly benefiting from it. US education may mention indigenous people being mistreated; it will not characterize it as genocide though, which it was. It will discuss slavery and the mistreatment of the descendants of those slaves, but treats this as an unfortunate thing that happened long ago, not something that's still harming millions of people through its consequences. It certainly doesn't discuss the US' unparalleled affinity for installing murderous dictators in other countries, or its penchant for killing civilians en masse in its wars or through its foreign policy. American imperialism is not part of the curriculum, but for a lot of the world it has been a fact of life.
@caesumcrimson6381
@caesumcrimson6381 Год назад
I think you make a good point and yes there is still a lot of Eurocentric or British focus of Australian history. But Australian History does teach a lot of ancient, medieval and modern history from across the world and you HAVE to cover at least one Asian country in ancient/medieval as well as European... whilst still doing Civil rights in US and Australia and World Wars. Sooo there is not too much wiggle room to do more Aussie history unless you risk being ignorant of the rest of the world and global ancient and modern cultures! Would hate to be like US or England and only learn about patriotic, national stuff

What you mention at 16:25 actually did happen - under the first Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, a massive campaign of destruction of written scholarship was conducted. He kept copies at his capital...which was later burned down during the succession crisis that followed his death. We don't have copies of a lot of the Confucian classics as a result of this.

Something else to note about burial items is that just because somebody is buried with something, whether that be a bow or a sword, that does not automatically make them a hunter or a warrior. We often have very little information on the cultures and traditions of these people and so we don't actually know why they bury people with what they do. For all we know it could be religious or it could be a status symbol or it could mean anything really.

Someone was arguing on twitter that "oh the spanish conquest was justified because aztec evil sacrifice!", and under a related post I mentioned that "if these people were asked anything about Tenochtitlan they'd be like 'whats that'" or something along those lines. and this person responded with like a facebook meme about aztec sacrifice. the meme featured a picture of - I shit you not - Chichen Itza. Which is, very famously, NOT an Aztec structure, it's a Mayan one.

Could you a series where you start with a tictock then do a deep dive on the subject? Just one tictock per video so you can have alot of relevant jucy knowledge.
