Fr man that’s so relatable. That’s part of why I love games too, just the fact that you have something you genuinely love and brings you comfort to fall back on when things are tough.
I think it's really cool to see how far you've come with your mindset Mitch, I remember making a comment several years back that you were being super negative and you responded saying that it was something you were working on. I really admire you being so real and big enough to confront your shortcomings
Hearing you talk about streaming during your struggles is very inspirational, I'm in my early 20s and in a similar boat. It's nice to hear content creators being candid about that stuff. Congratulations for getting out of it!
18:28 - 19:09 I really like the candor in this part. I've had a similar path in how I was still struggling well into adulthood (far further into adulthood, too) but I've also been fortunate enough to get into a much better position. Keep killin it, Mitch. I'm really happy for ya :)
Hi Mitch thanks for the heart, I never expected a response, but it def gave me a little extra happiness in my day. I look forward to what you can do to take smb3 to new levels.
Thank you for this, its really cool it hear about your journey to become a wr holder and how important this game is to you. Sometimes life just doesnt go well, and even the game you are good at breaks you and gives double slaps in life. But if you love it, you just gonna do what you gotta do. I'm glad you were able to get through those and became what you are today!
Thanks for adding your commentary! Your knowledge of SMB3 is amazing, but I guess that is what 12 years of doing anything will do. Especially, since you seem like a smart and dedicated individual.
Really interesting history and amazing improvements from various runners. Highly appreciate the personal life info which makes MFP records all the more significant. Johnny Millennium is the most open book of any gamer (also in Canada), so it was cool that Mitch also revealed some inside details. The press pause / sun hit facial expressions were too funny, but i could also feel the pain. Total respect to your dedication in perfecting SMB3 speedrunning and extra credit for naturally being entertaining 😄 💯
This was cool. You more than perhaps any speedrunner remind me of a professional athlete in that you have specialized your entire life. Everybody is familiar with those clips of tiger woods playing golf at 4 yrs old, you just play smb3 all day every day like it's your job because it is. In the old days great athletes whom played a lot of sports were the goats. Then in the 80s a few great athletes specialized in one sport, not just the athletics, but also intellectualism of it. They became the goats. You not only are the best at one tiny little thing in this world, but your so good you have brought some awareness among the population to this little corner of the internet.
I love watching your reaction videos Mitch. You should really do more of these. Thank you for all that you do with the speedrunning community and also the SMB3 community. Also, I love when you have the chat scrolling during your runs/reactions. You should of did that for this video but that's just nitpicking. Take care dude. ~ MarkyMark
Hey Mitch , Awesome video man you've made me go out and buy a NES to relive my childhood and learn all of these tricks to hopefully someday be a competitor.
Isn't it insane how 1 decision can completely change the path of your life, like what if you decided to not take the chance and still to washing dishes and as much as you hated it you took the safe route and it changed everything, I mean you would prob still be a happy person but you wouldn't be the streamer we all know and love. I think about that in my own life a lot, messes with you head sometimes when you think about something you could've did but didn't or vice versa, according to string theory there are infinite timelines that diverge with every choice we make and every possible outcome has played out in some way in one of those timelines.. damn... ok my head hurts lol! I'm glad you decided to completely follow your dream and make it a reality, not many people can say that. 😋👍
Just watched this video, I wont beat your record but youve given me some inspiration to do something fun. Just learned how to do 7-1 and 7-7 clip in less than 10 minutes. Do you have a specific video of just clips through walls and tips and tricks for speed running SM3?
Can you talk about how you adapted to the hammer bro's suit in that last run? You were like totally unphased and just rocked it... Was there luck involved?!
The funniest thing about wall warps is that in the 80s/90s/pre internet era these things probably did happen on pure coincidence, but NO ONE WOULD BELIEVE YOU.
Mitchell, do you have an adrenaline rush when speed running, or used to, or still do? Or is it more like a Zen thing for you? Still love this game to this day
fyi, we did dominate the game but didn't know there were records and recording runs. We just dominated the game. Then we had kids and a career. Just now seeing this is a thing 20 years later is awesome. Thinking about getting the old nintendo going again.
31:05(ish) - youre right, Mitch, i dont hear SummoningSalt-- the guy known for his documentaries on Speedrun History, and his wealth of research on Going Fast-- use the phrase "very quickly"...just like how you dont hear SCUBA divers use the word 'wet', ever :-P
4:05 this statement was presented by our friends at the "grabbing the wand in the air". 10:05 the moment Mitch (and everyone watching) was waiting for. 12:15 to my untrained eye, that 4-3 looked pretty decent... And then you get the star!
I've come to a new video so this comment wouldn't just get buried in the past. I was watching one of your Mariothons from probably a couple of years ago and you got killed by a blooper and said "that's going on my highlight reel". I understand the pressures of playing Mario but I was slightly disappointed that you didn't say "that's going on my blooper reel". You may feel free to use that in the future, I hope I've been of some help to you. Good luck beating your own records, thanks for all the awesome videos!
