This was an All Star tribute at the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" after the induction of George Harrison as a solo artist. George had previously been inducted as a member of the Beatles. George died from cancer a few years prior to his election as a solo artist. The guy with the high pitched voice is Jeff Lynne the lead singer and main creator of the group The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). ELO was huge in the 70s and 80s and might be a good rabbit hole to explore. George wrote this song and the beatles releaseed it on their album "The Beatles" which was known as "The White Album" in 1968. Eric Clapton, as an uncredited guest musician, played lead guitar on the Beatles version while George sang lead and the higher vocal harmonies were performed by Paul McCartney.

Agreed. I haven't seen you do a deep dive on any Beatles songs yet, and they were absolutely iconic in changing music. Maybe more so than Elvis. Yesterday is powerful. A Day in the Life. Come Together. Let it Be. Penny Lane. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. They had several 'stages'. Early stage was the bubble-gum simple songs. Then they got deeper/angrier. Then they got spiritual/hippie. All are great.

Prince is our Mozart, he mastered over 14 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, instrumental. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few. Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition, production & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also the first artist to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see.

Britt, I loved your shock and awe reaction to Prince's performance, and especially @9:42 where you say: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is what I call making love to the guitar and making it weep at the same time."
@sonofthesea3298

As a guy that holds Prince the highest of any male solo artist,i love this reaction! (sure,he had his bands over the years,but he was in the front and being focused on,the bands were simply to back him up) I even got teased and even bullied for loving his music so much,while also calling myself a metal head and being heavy into Metallica,so over the years i changed my attitude around. I only say that im a music lover now,and if people still ask what im listening to,im like "abit of everything!". I still identify as a metal head,but i listen to all kinds of music,it just depends on the mood and day. I never buckled under pressure,and i have to admit i loved Prince`s savage way of stealing this performance. Many called it a disrespect towards the other artists,and i seem to remember someone getting heated over how he pushed his guitar solo on and on,i believe some of the other performers went into abit of a "okay,now you are just overdoing it Prince!" type of mind lol. But Prince did it for a reason,he felt underappreciated for his guitar skills,so he wanted to prove himself to whoever ran thoose lists. You know Prince is fed up if he tosses the guitar,all sassy and savagely,and just walks off the stage with that "diva strut". 🤣I did not see eye to eye with alot of his opinions etc,but i managed to look past it and i still loved him as a performing,singing,composing,writing genius! Prince was going in on Michael Jackson,and Michael teased him back on any opportunity he got. But when Michael Jackson died,there was a story of someone knowing Prince. I cant come up with the name now. I think he went up with Prince on a roof somewhere,where they would just sit and talk and admire the landscape,great view they had. I think Prince watched at the stars at one point,and this person said Prince would NOT stop talking about Michael in a complimentary way. He just poured his soul about the loss of Michael and how great of a musician he was. So it was a rivalry there yes,but Prince had the outmost respect for Michael and cared for him. So a friendly rivalry more then anything,Prince wanted to overtake the throne from Michael,he wanted to have the same success and more,he had great goals for himself,but deep inside there was no grudge or hatred at all from Princes side. Prince looked at Michael as a track and field sprinter look at his teammate,in a relay run they are buddies but in solo sprints they want to beat eachother,be faster and better then the other. So in many ways,MJs fame was the absolute inspiration and motivation for Prince. And that lead to Prince making Purple Rain and actually bypassing MJ for the first time. Many good documentaries on YT about thoose 2,i think 1 even includes Madonna. Prince actually locked himself in for days,calling off his own rehearsal and sent his bandmates home,after he heard about MJs passing.And i just looked it up real quick,it wasnt a celebrity but a close friend of Prince actually,Tavis Smiley. I recommend this documentary for you Britt: Prince on His Rivalry with Michael Jackson! Candidly In His Own Words | the detail.

As others have said, this was written by George Harrison , of the Beatles. That' s his son Dhani (playing acoustic in the back) . Prince said his one goal with this was to make Dhani smile. I say *mission accomplished!*

The Beatles were master songwriters Britt. The reason you love the part with the lyric "I don't Know Why-i-i" so much is because the song changes keys from A minor to A Major during that part. The Beatles(John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison) were absolute masters of songwriting, lyrics, and melody. This is a song George Harrison wrote.

One of the best collaborations ever. It's amazing how George Harrison's son (acoustic guitar) looks so much like his father. It's originally a Beatles song. I grew up with the Beatles, and it's amazing to think that none of the Beatles knew how to read or write music.

Hey Brit, the first time I saw this video was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a theater they have with monster speakers all around. The room hummed and shook with the music. almost like an out-of-body experience. I loved it so much that I went back on line to see it again. I was not a Prince fan (I did love When Doves Cry), but I never knew he could play the guitar like this. He was amazing. You can see George Harrison's son smiling at his playing - a fitting tribute to his father. I loved your reactions too, perfect!

This song is a Beatles song written and sung by George Harrison. On the recording Eric Clapton, a rare guest artist on a Beatles recording, was brought in to play the guitar solo. I noticed that you hadn’t done any Beatles reactions before. Well, not any longer. Since George had died by the time he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this band of his closest musicians was brought in to play this performance. Even his son is on stage. He is the baby face guitarist over Tom’s left shoulder.

The young guy on Tom Petty's left playing acoustic guitar is Dhani Harrison, the son of the song's author. George Harrison wrote it while with The Beatles -- it was included on their 1968 album "The Beatles" which due to its distinctive cover quickly came to be known as the white album. On that original version, Eric Clapton was invited by George to play the guitar solo. Many of the artists in this performance also were part of the Concert For George which was a tribute to George after his death. This song was also played there and included Eric Clapton and George's fellow ex-Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. John Lennon had been assassinated decades before, so obviously he wasn't there. However, on Paul's recent tour, he "brought John back" by using footage from The Beatles famous rooftop concert for the song I've Got A Feeling, which was a song that Paul and John blended together two separate songs written by each so they both have singing parts. Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were in the short-lived band The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, along with Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan plus unofficial member drummer Jim Keltner. The first live version of WMGGW was at George's 1971 benefit concert The Concert for Bangla Desh. George, Eric, Ringo and Jim were among the performers on that occasion.
