Interviewer once asked Freddie 'what instrument do you play? - the answer was, 'the audience, dear boy, the audience'. And he did - watching thousands of people singing his song back to him, choregraphed by the greatest front man ever - Freddie Mercury. Lucky enough to have Queen and Freddie as the soundtrack to my youth... RIP Freddie, you are missed by millions.

Queen is a once-in-history collection of four authentic musical geniuses gathered into one place. All of them were ultra-talented when it came to what they did. Dr. Brian May's (PhD, astrophysics... he's done work with NASA) guitar style was unique. Roger Taylor's drum and rhythm sense was second to none. John Deacon was a master of the bass guitar, and they *all* were some of the greatest songwriters ever to walk the earth. But when discussing Queen, you have to deal with Freddie Mercury first and foremost. Freddie Mercury was a force of nature. There have been damned few performers with his absolute raw charisma and ability to command a crowd. He's been called "the greatest front-man in the history of music" for a reason. He and his band created what is considered the greatest live performance -- also in the history of music. And its true. The world can be divided into "before Freddie Mercury" and "after Freddie Mercury." And I weep at the thought of the music we never got to hear when he died so young. He was only 45 when he died of AIDS in 1991, a mere ten years after this performance. He was one of a kind. And as Shakespeare said in Hamlet, we shall not see his like again.

Notably, May had interrupted his graduate studies for his music career and then, at an age when other people think of retiring, he thought "Hm, guitar legend, rock star, there's still something missing in my life... oh yeah, that PhD I started half a life ago!" They actually did have autotune. His voice was so powerful that autotune was used to keep the speakers from making that high pitched squeal. Different use of autotune. thats actually why it was invented. Not like the shit they use it for today

@@louremington6975 , um, no. Autotune is a digital audio plug-in that was introduced in 1997. I think what you might be thinking of is the use of audio compressors, which have been around for a long time. Compression helps tame wild fluctuations in loudness, but does not affect pitch in any way.

Lets not forget the GreenDay concert where 65000 teenagers and 20 somethings sang Bohemian Rhapsody as it was being played over the loud speaker. A song released before some of their parents were born, by an artist who died before they were born.

This is the best ever live footage of Queen. It was filmed in Montreal in 1981. Moblevision developed technology to create a traveling IMAX show with a 5 story movie image. They approached Queen about filming them and eventually Freddy agreed. They wanted to shoot all band members so they used 8 cameras. They had to rotate 3-4 of 8 cameras each filled with with a 10 minute roll of 35 mm Kodak film. They also had people running back and forth to the cameras and a guy next to each cameraman to load the film and pull the focus. The cameras used double anamorphic lenses to squeeze as much detail onto the film as possible. There was no way to say take 1, take 2, etc. when filming so automatic slating was used to create an ID tag for every shot of film. It was the first time automatic slating was ever used. Many years later 700 Apple Mac G5’s spent one MONTH processing the film. A computation compared each frame with the ones before it and the ones after it to remove dirt, scratches and some of the defects of the original filming.

Funny enough, there is a rumor the band (in special Freddie, it kind of explains his death glare at the first seconds of this song) wasn't happy about the way they did it, bothering them, entering their way, invading their space, leaving a mess of cables, rolls and cameras, and basically disrupting their performance. But indeed, like you very elloquently explained why, it was the best ever live footage of Queen.

Great reaction Britt welcome to the legendary Uk 🇬🇧 band Queen , I attended many Queen live concerts in the 1980s,they are famous for their flamboyant live performances, all the members of Queen have Written No 1 hits and they have a vast catalog of amazing songs and anthems, Freddie Mercury the lead vocals,their greatest hits album is still today the best selling album of all time in the United Kingdom, they have sold over 300 million records, and they were all amazing musicians,all the members of Queen had universally degrees and bachelor credits to their names, please react to Queen at Live Aid in 1985 they had a 22 minute slot on stage and out of 20 bands and artists that performed for charity that day Queen were the best and stole the show, Freddie Mercury always played to the crowds and had the crowds in the palm of his hand, thanks 🙏

Early 80's, in 10 years to be exact he'll lose his life to AIDS!!! Heartbreaking, what a tremendous loss for not only Freddie, but John Deacon that was especially close to Freddie, not intimately, but both had mutual respect for one another. Freddie admired John for his amazing skills for writing music, John wrote many hit songs for Queen. Every band member suffered a great loss at losing not only their lead singer, but also Freddie was a family member to each of them. The WORLD more than anyone, lost a •••Legendary Once in a Lifetime Singer that this World had ever known or experienced since.!!!•••We still Love and Miss you Freddie. I've said, some not very nice things about you after you passed away, what a horrible thing to do, my momma always said, never speak ill of the dead. Freddie was not a dancer but he did box as a kid. Anyone who boxes knows that weeks and weeks of training go into footwork, being light on your feet and being smooth. It shows with him.

Both boxing and ballet are evident in the way he moves. If you know anything about boxing or ballet. Some movements are pure boxing and I think he would have been good but Freddie would not damage the face. His build at this time also hints about his background.

As someone who Grew up with Queen it's really nice to see Someone's 1st time reaction There was a decade when Queen was the Most beloved band in the world, Freddie Mercury to this day is considered one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time, There is a movie called Bohemian Rhapsody, That movie will enlighten you to the greatness of Queen.. Queen has probably the most talented band members to have ever lived. Each member has written several timeless number hits for the band. Each member has an insane amount of talent at what they do and more. The members can play an instrument and sing. The drummer is 100% so talented if he had been a part of any other band he would have been the front man but he is a part of the queen and their talent as a frontman is still unchallenged today. Off the stage, several members have respectable college degrees that if they would not have been in Queen they would have had successful lives.

Their guitarist Brian May not only had a master in astrophysics but even finished his theses (is that what the next step is called?) and turned it in a few years ago. He had built his own aparatus for measuring something that's way above my understanding and personally put it up on some mountain, did the measurements, the math, the writing ...

Sensory overload! Love your reaction. Been a Queen fan since Bohemian Rhapsody was released back in 1975. I always felt that their music was timeless and would be around past my lifetime, and here I am today watching a new generation discovering their greatness. You are right that they never do their performances the same way twice. You can check out another live version of this song from their concert release On Fire At The Bowl. Live at Milton Keyne. I think you will enjoy his energy and interaction with the audience. As far as dancing, I don’t know if he ever took lessons, but I do know he had a love for ballet, and he was a huge fan of Liza Minnelli hence his movements on stage. Also he was a big fan of Aretha Franklin whom i believe was his inspiration when he wrote Somebody To Love.

This concert was recorded on 35mm film. That's why it looks so good. The band actually hated doing the concert, but I think it's a blessing having such high quality recordings of them in their prime.

This is such an incredible performance of this song, Freddie nails it and Roger (drums) is singing along in much of a duet (the high notes are him) with Freddie. Brian is also in there on the backup vocals. All the instruments are performing at top levels. Queen is such a well rehearsed and tight band, I have loved them since their beginnings. As a Canadian, when my dad was still a young adult, he was there at Montreal during the concert. He said it was one of the greatest moments of his life ! It is thanks to him I became a Queen fan since I was 7. The group loved their music so much, so it's always great to see new people from different generations discover that group ! My first bigtime rock concert at age 16 was Queen (Night at the Opera tour). In the subsequent nearly 50 years, I've very rarely seen anything on stage that exceeded it. The band was so tight, and Freddie's talent was truly something to behold. The term "rock star" is tossed around too lightly these days. These guys exemplified it.

Loved your reaction to this. Queen was an incredible band, and maybe with the greatest variation in their songs. All the band members wrote songs, and they all sang (but Freddie was of course the lead singer). Many people from USA believe they don't know any songs by Queen, and still they happily sing 'We will rock you' and 'We are the Champions' in sport events. BTW, the guy with the hair you like is Brian May (who in 2007 got a phd in astrophysics) and his hair still looks much the same now that he is 75 years old, except that it has turned white/grey.

Hi Brittreacts, As you were taken by Freddie's performance, I thought you might like to see this: Queen's (I think) penultimate performance, a year after Live Aid. Freddie already knew he was sick with AIDS and had told the band he wouldn't tour anymore. So, this is Under Pressure. Despite being sick he could still hold an audience of 70,000 in the palm of his hand.The first 2 mins of this video has him giving a vocal exercise to 70,000 people.
