18:35 the main difference between Joey and Little Simz is the gap between albums. I don’t expect Simz to change as much in a year than Joey should in 5. I love both albums. But you can’t compare that element for that reason
I love Luv 4 Rent by Smino. I don't think its album of the year but it is for sure my most played album. I keep listening to that album since it came out.
my album of the year kept changing constantly, first it was Kendrick's MMATBS, and soon shifted to 2000 then the forever story dropped and i thought that was it, however the GOAT dropped another masterpiece this year with KD3 and i can't stop listening to it
Heroes and Villains was slightly better than Her Loss for me. They're both great but I go back to Heroes and Villains just a bit more, it only has 1 skip for me, and it has my favorite song between the two as well
@@jamaalbaker791521 wasn’t in the backseat it was a collab album and to discredit it just because drake had more runtime shows your bias it’s still an amazing album.
My album of the year is MMATBS. I literally listen to this album everyday & it has impacted me the most since it’s release. I don’t listen to every song everyday, but I constantly revisit this album. Tbh, I have listened to TFS, MMESYF, Heroes & Villains, and other great albums this year, but they honestly haven’t been in my rotation and haven’t impacted me the same. So for me it’s Kendrick by a mile plus his music videos can’t be fucked with so he got my music video of the year too!
My personal Top 10 of the year: 🥇Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers 🥈Metro Boomin - Heroes & Villains 🥉Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future 4) JID - The Forever Story 5) Drake & 21 Savage - Her Loss 6) Nas - King's Disease III 7) Lupe Fiasco - Drill Music In Zion 8) Pusha T - It's Almost Dry 9) Saba - Few Good Things 10) Westside Gunn - Hitler Wears Hermes 10 HM: Danger Mouse & Black Thought - Cheat Codes Vince Staples - Ramona Park Broke My Heart Brent Fayaz - WASTELAND
My Top 10: 10. 2000 - Joey Bada$$ 9. Heroes & Villains - Metro Boomin 8. $oul $old $eparately - Freddie Gibbs 7. Melt My Eyez See Your Future - Denzel Curry 6. Kings Disease III - Nas 5. Its Almost Dry - Pusha T 4. NO THANK YOU - Little Simz 3. God Dont Make Mistakes - Conway The Machine 2. Mr Morale & The Big Steppers - Kendrick Lamar 1. The Forever Story - JID And prolly every album youre typing right now under this comment I've not listened yet! Edit: Ive changed my opinion quite a bit and @sethtruscello6227 shut up Little Simz is a fantastic artist!!!
@@sethtruscello6227 didn't know who she was until this comment and after listening to two songs, i can confidently say it's better than whole lotta red
My top 3 albums of the year 1: IDMTHY by Quadeca 2: MMATBS by Kendrick 3: TFS by JID My bottom 3 albums of the year 1: Baby on baby 2 by Dababy 2: Whatever the fuck that Black Eyed Peas album is called 3: CHTKMY by Jack Harlow
Don’t agree on how Ant immediately saids “well it’s a dance album” for when Lu brings up how Drake was passive, when really Drake put little to 0 effort. If it was somewhat good or had more effort, that wouldn’t be an argument.
Just started seeing these 2 guys for the past 3 months and each time I click on their shorts it gets a good grasp of my attention. And look where I end up at :)
No mention of Freddie Gibbs' Soul Sold Separately? Wtf. Great overall like JID's album. 1. Soul Sold Separately 2. JID - The Forever Story 3. Benny - Tana Talk 4 Honorary mentions: Curren$y & Alchemist - Continuance Larry June - Spaceships On A Blade
Honestly an album I don’t think gets enough attention is logic vinyl data. Minus the games verse it is honestly a skipless and enjoyable album. The beats, rhyme schemes, and everything are chefs kiss
@@lilschwertens5936 aight this is probably a hot take but I think after hours is better than dawn fm. I still like it a lot and probs give it a 7/10 but I think the production starts to wear thin in the second half with songs like best friends, don’t break my heart and I heard you’re married which are some of his most basic yet and have weak vocal performances compared to a lot of songs on after hours. I think a lot of the lyrics are dumbed down to emphasise the music alot which wouldn’t be bad if the sound was alot more consistent and varied but like I said it starts to wear thin and the concept isn’t very cohesive really like since the lyrics are so surface level it’s kinda hard to figure out what’s actually happening compared to what happens in previous albums like I didn’t even know there were 2 relationships happening after like 5 or 6 listens. Lastly I think the best song on this album (is there someone else imo) isn’t even that great compared to the self titled song on after hours or faith, snow child, scared to live or in your eyes which imo is a better 80’s song then half the songs on dawn fm. Still love it alot and I think it’s one of the best of the year but also think it’s a little overrated
@@dardar3596 no I can defo see why people love it a lot, I like it too and think it’s one of the best of the year and I’m also a weeknd lover, I just think after hours is a lot better
My top 20 (including some Belgium artists) are: 1. JID - The Forever Story 2. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyes See Your Future 3. Nas - Kings Disease 3 4. Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes 5. Lupe Fiasco - Drill Music In Zion 6. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale And The Big Steppers 7. Blackwave ) No Time In LA 8. Conway The Machine - God Don't Make Mistakes 9. Stromae - Multitude 10. Pusha T - It's Almost Dry 11. Stikstof - Moeras 12. Little Simz - No Thank You (could go up as time progresses) 13. Freddie Gibs - Soul Sold Seperately 14. The Weeknd - Dawn FM 15. Logic - Vinyll Days 16. Zwangere Guy & Lander Gyselinck - Pouriture Noble 17. Blackstar - No Fear Of Time 18. Joey Badass - 2000 19. Ja'King The Divine - Black Sun Tzu 20. Saba - Few Good Things I didn't have the chance to check Billy Woods, Westside Gunn And Smino who could (arguably) crack my list. I plan on still listening. Happy Holidays and let's hope for another great 2023 in terms of Music!
my PERSONAL top 10: JiD Lupe Denzel Nas Black thought Kendrick Conway Saba Joey Smino Honorable Mentions: METRO!!! Freddie earthgang 070 shake!!! Ka (both) Logic Westside gunn Ransom Jeezy Drake Meechy darko WESTSIDE BOOGIE!!! redveil billy woods Such a dope year for music bro
@@Dont-At-Me yeah that too tbh, its in my honorable mentions but imo it might be just slightly overrated, it’s kinda a paradox to me cause the track list is consistent enough but almost no tracks stand out to me, i just have a lot of moments. For instance, broke boys 1st part is one of the best on the whole album but 2nd i don’t like, travis on pussy and millions, 3 am in glenwood and intro, that’s kinda it. Other tracks r just good enough/ pretty good ykwim
@@neymarjrjaffrayj.jacksonde2734 i forgor ☠️ but it’s a honorable mention tho cause i agree w their take on it, call my bluff and scrape it off aint it imo
@@_rashidisaiah there's a lot more than those guys, but it was a pretty good album nonetheless. I prefer it over a lot of albums other ppl are hyping here.
I think y’all disrespect creepin of H&Vs a lil too much, I love the combo of 21 and The Weeknd and I felt it made such a great song, personally my favorite off the album
I have top 3 rap albums 1.Vinyl days 2.Hero's & Villain's And just to add one... 3.Her Loss Just my personal thoughts just my opinion so what you think about my picks?
@@Mani_- her loss yes has a lot of mainstream cuts and you could argue with H&V to but vinyl days I gotta disagree with like it's logics most un main stream album because I have definitely not heard any of these tracks on the radio just saying and I personally hold this album high being one of my favorite logic albums and it being the album that got me into logic and rap in the first place
@@rjdXx. I could argue that yes he has other solid albums I would put over vinyl days but vinyl days is one of his best in awhile and shows some of his best beats and word play in awhile but again just a personal opinion
Calling Drake the most influential artist of all time is quite possibly the hottest tale I’ve ever heard. Cause that’s involving literally every single creator of art so dudes like Shakespeare and Van Gogh are in that. Even most influential rapper is a hot as lava take cause of people like Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Kanye, NWA, Eminem, etc
I feel like MMATBS is slept on because the album was underwhelming from Kendrick but Kendrick is on another level to the point were even underwhelming is still amazing. If a rapper like JID or Denzel made this album everyone would have ranked this album so much higher because it would be an improvement from their last albums and they are part of the ‘future of hip hop’.
@@thebohr11 well, yes and no, I’d consider Black Thought and Freddie Gibbs as more underground than mainstream for sure, same with Benny the Butcher, for example
You guys are bugging about on Joey Badass album. Songs like head high, survivors guilt and eulogy are arguably some of the best pure rap records this year with good skill, meaning etc. He deffo showed evolution on sound and variety with songs like cruise control, one of us, show me and wanna be loved. As one of the guys said, the album wasn’t full of double entendres but they was a level of maturity with the pen and progression
There are some grade A tracks on there no doubt. Problem is there are skips too. When you account for AOTY you have to include the whole album. Do Better off Ab-Soul is in my top 5 tracks of the year but the album isn't in my top 20.
I still don't understand how you guys can say Rock n Roll by Pusha T is a bad track. Honestly baffles me. That and I Pray For You are 2 of my 3 fav track on that album. Kanye killed it on the production on both of those songs. That album is easy top 10.
I don’t think there’s ever been an album that’s grown on me as Honestly, Nevermind. Considering how much I hated it on first listen. The whole 2nd half is great. Flights Booked is one of my favourite songs of the year
1. The Forever Story - JID 2. Melt My Eyes See Your Future - Denzel 3. Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers - Kendrick 4. Cheat Codes - Danger Mouse & Black Thought 5. RAMONA PARK BROKE MY HEART - Vince Staples 6. Few Good Things - Saba 7. 2000 - Joey Bada$$ 8. learn 2 swim - redveil 9. HEROES & VILLAINS - Metro Bloomin 10. Luv 4 Rent - Smino
Drake being a better rapper than Ye is a good take, considering he writes for him. But Ye has more creativity and a way better discography. Uzi can't spit like Baby but he's more diverse with a better catalogue. Nas and Jay Z are practically even. Nas has the higher high but Jay has higher lows and more consistency. Nas kind of fell off then came back.
