I’d say it’s because they are both about a contest in which each cat sings a pretty upbeat song until one cat sings this really sad song but then it doesn’t really matter. Idk like it kinda fits.
@@DenizTeve What Lottie Millar said is mostly right. He really wanted it to look like he was being starved and dehydrated because Tom Hooper told him he wanted him to look unrecognizable. So, it was less about looking ripped and more about looking like he was struggling health wise.

Okay, Amy, I have a story for you since you wanted more info on the person who peed their pants onstage. I'm not that person, but I have a similar story. So, for background, when I was in high school they had a one-act play competition where people from high schools all around the state would compete and get awards. Our one-act was Big Love, which was Aeschylus's The Suppliants but modernized. I played a supporting role: Bella, who was this big Italian grandma and a mostly comedic role ( I did get a really good speech at the end of the play though, that was fun but aside the point ). I had to learn an Italian accent and I spent a very long time honing the character. The day of the State one-act competition approaches: we spend all day working on set and polishing up things. I spend the entire day too focused to pee. I have my costume and makeup on, and I'm waiting in the wings. The lights go out in house and we're ready for the performance. 5 minutes before, I feel it. My face pales. My director's words: MAKE SURE YOU PEE BECAUSE YOU'RE ON STAGE FOR THE REST OF THE SHOW WHEN YOU GET ONSTAGE rings in my ears. Luckily, I'm on my period so I have a pad on. I can't go to the bathroom now. My prompt line is said. I walk onstage, say my first line, and I let it all go. My pad acts as a diaper for the next 45 minutes as our one-act finishes. I go on to give the best goddamn performance in my entire life and win best supporting actress.
I hate the criticisms coming out about Hamilton, from non musical people... like them just being petty and criticising things that weren’t 100% accurate. Silly people.
The thinkpieces are a bit much but they're not exactly wrong, are they? Even Lin himself doesn't take offense and welcomes all criticism. It's okay to like something that also can be seen as problematic in some areas.
The thing that really upsets me is that people are treating it like a history lesson and not an art piece. It's not meant to help you write your report, it's meant to enjoy as a work of art and if you learn something from it that's just an added bonus

The connection I see between SIX and Cats is that it's just a show where the characters introduce themselves for over an hour before having about 1 or 2 songs dedicated to the actual plot.
ok I have a few - I'm an SM and I used to schedule rehearsals so one of my best friends had the same free days as her boyfriend, because she was sad that they hadn't had much time to hang - one time to celebrate the closing of a show we were in, me and 3 of my friends snuck into the theatre in the middle of the day, and opened a bottle of sparkling apple cider on the stage and drank it (it was quite romantic, plastic cups under the dim light of the ghost light, maniacal laughing because we were so sleep deprived) and we spilled some on the stage. It was the worst thing I've done in the theatre - that time I skipped class to go to the theatre early that day - the booth window was open slightly and I didn't know so in the middle of a run I was complaining about the director making calling cues for the beginning of the show super complicated and the director called a hold because the booth was being too loud (thank god she didn't hear what I said tho) - a few of our newest actors got SUPER stoned before a show, like it would've been unhealthy if they didn't have to go onstage, but it was like an hour before we opened, and I had to tell the director that they were really sick and try to hold it together. I never told any of the teachers that they were high, and idk if they knew, but somehow they made it through the show, and when I was helping one of them afterwards they introduced me to their friend as "the stage mom" and tbh it made me really happy lol - when an actor who we'd had issues with because they would just leave to go to the bathroom during a run disappeared and we called his dad and he was at home, and the director wanted me to tell his dad why that wasn't ok, instead of the tech director who was on the phone with him (and who was an adult, unlike me at 16 yrs old) and it was such a stressful day that while the director worked with some actors I said I was going to the bathroom and I spent a half hour in the tech booth crying. the life of an SM lol
When I went to Hamilton Jamael didn't come to the stage door area soooo I just got photos with the cast members who did choose to come out that evening, like a rational person 🙃🙃🙃. Dunno how I'd manage a selfie with him anyway cos he's a big ol tree

Totally up for a part 2! There were a lot of things where I was like "Holy sh*t...What?" I also sent two confessions and seeing what other people did everything that I wrote is really mild! Also the one with going to see a different shows but actually going to the same one again is totally me but with starlightexpress (I'm German and live close to it) . I told my Mother I'm going to see a different show or to the cinema but in reality I went to Starlight express. I did this 7 times last year and I'm not mad I lied!😏

I made my mum and dad watch Hamilton and they both loved it. My dad pretended not to like it and said “well it’s ok I guess” and then the next morning I wake up and hear ‘you’ll be back’ from my dads study 😂
I had to go on a 32 km bike ride with my dad to get him to watch Hamilton with me... he gave it an 8/10 bc he thought the staging was lazy 😂🤦🏼♀️ he also loves King George though. He always shits on musicals but when we watched Encore together on Disney+ he could sing along to all the songs 😂
This is a weird thing for me to confess, but there are very few musicals I dislike. I can acknowledge if something's not for me, and i'm not crazy on it, but that doesn't mean I think it's bad. And most of the musicals I see, I really like.
I also changed seats at Jamie once, I was dress circle side, very uncomfortable and saw there were two empty seats in front row stalls so at interval we sat there for the second half. Best choice ever. Also I've had to lie to people and say I was watching something different when I went to see Phantom, Jamie and Six several times. A second part would be great, these were fun haha
I changed seats during On Your Feet. The balcony seats at the London Coliseum are absolute hell! They’re at a straight 90 degree angle. I’m a relatively small person and I was so uncomfortable!
in response to the Cher show comment. I saw the Cher show when I went to NY because Amy loved it so much (and 99% of the time I completely agree with all her opinions on shows) but honestly I didn't really like it. it was good! I just didn't love it. (and on that trip I also saw a few more shows like be more chill and the prom and mean girls that I just loved much more) but I definitely don’t think its overrated. I literally don’t hear anyone except Amy talking about it (and I LOVE how passionate Amy is about it!)
I ince had 2 fails in one show: This was during a show of high school musical. This was the first time i had ever done a show and i have to do a couple scooter tricks before the opening number. Instead the head of my scooter came off and i fell over mid trick in the muddle of the stage. Later that show i was playing one of the basketballers and i missed the hoop and the ball bounced across 2 audience mebers heads and landed in the muddle of an isle. I was soooooo embarrassed... we all had a laugh about it back stage but still i messed up hard...
I went to see Miss Saigon with my secondary schools and (spoiler alert) when Kim dies, a girl from my class was sobbing really loud and me and my friend sat next to me had to try so hard to not laugh because of the noises the girl was making x
The laxative thing definitely happens! In uni I was in a production of Little Women where each of the 4 sisters had 2 understudies. I was an Amy stand-by, and the other Amy understudy gave the main Amy laxatives in a pan of brownies. Main Amy ended up in hospital, Poisoner Amy got expelled, and I ended up playing the part. It was a very weird semester.

Funny story -- I didn't watch your channel at the time, but I waited a couple people in line behind you for Mean Girls that day, and wound up sitting right behind you and your friend for Anastasia (my friend was in that line and we got tickets for both). Also, omg, that was a very freezing experience!

The one who said Six and Cats have similarities. Yes, not only do they have characters sing individual songs, they are sorta similiar in that they are picking the "best story" to see who wins. Cats is picking the cat who gets a new life and Six is picking the queen to be the lead of the group. (Of course the wrap ups of the two shows are extremely different). Also, each character in both shows sing different genres of music almost. One could probably write an essay on both shows if you stretch enough. :)
To go along with the lighting thing, I was doing my school's chorus concert and I didn't realize the tormentors weren't on so the chorus director came over and said "can we just try turning the tormentors on?" And I was like "yeah." I turn them on and the whole chorus that was onstage went "woah!" and closed their eyes. I dunno, made me smile.
Little theater rant. I’ve only been in the theater for 3.5 years, but as a Freshman in high school, that’s my whole middle school time and all of my time so far in high school. Theater is what I want to do in my life and it’s basically my whole life. And not just acting, I’m currently the ASM for our school production of Radium Girls (which is huge for a freshman). All this being said, I work so so hard. I put in so many hours a day practicing my craft and art. I dance and I practice singing and acting and when I’m on crew I spend hours taking my notes and stuff like that. I know I have some natural talent, but I also know I work so incredibly hard that I don’t even know how much of what I’ve gotten is from natural talent. And people who get tons of roles off of purely natural talent bother me. But only when they clearly don’t put in any work. I know a guy who got a big role (Anthony in Sweeney Todd) and he flat out said “I just walk in and I get roles” and he then proceeded to make fun of my for having one line. Even tho I was still in more scenes than him cuz I was in the ensemble. That type of person kills my soul because they so clearly don’t work hard. He never read the director’s notes and never took corrections, and he got away with it because he has natural talent.
One time in Beauty and the Beast I was a plate and my costume was really damaged. So I took the label off this girls costume and moved it to mine. That was 4 years ago and I am still upset with myself
I’ve never seen the west end cast version of Heathers, just the off broadway. I’ve heard Never Shut Up Again and You’re Welcome from the soundtrack. What about the west end do you like better?
Christina Zara I love I say no from the west end cast album, and blue used to make me feel uncomfortable. And I know a lot more of the heathers west end cast, so it’s easier for me to differentiate between voices while listening (Eg with the heathers). Also I just love Carrie Hope Fletcher so I might be slightly biased.

Last year when I visited New York for the first time I chose to see The Cher Show because of your video on it! It was one of the best decisions I've ever made and I will not tolerate any Cher Show slander, it was amazing and totally not overrated!
I always thought that Kindergarten Boyfriend was not meant to be funny, but it was meant to be awkward, relatable and a bit over the top, and that you were supposed to find it amusing at the beginning until you realise what is happening, I personally laughed at the start the first time I heard it, because it was so dramatic and over the top and then that sinking feeling and then you just feel like an awful person for laughing because it is clear she is in pain, but I think I added too many complex layers of emotion to it lol
I have a theatre confession. I was on my first professional production of a musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Coat. I was super hyped and excited. We had a three show day and it was going to be exhausting, so we were all mentally prepared. Another girl and me had the task of bringing along the coat when it was time on the song. First show went smoothly. We left the theatre to eat something and we all got distracted. Before the second show, we never checked the coat was on its place. So, the time comes. It's time to go get the coat. It's not on the rack... it's not on the floor... the song keeps on. It does not have any pauses or anything that give us more time. We are looking for the damn coat frantically, the whole ensemble is doing the choreography and looking at us... We ended up taking a fake coat that was not finished and could not be put on Joseph. He then ran to his dressing room BECAUSE HE LEFT IT THERE. The thing that puzzles me to this day: not Joseph, not the costumer and not one of us made sure it was in place before the show. So unprofessional :( Still haunts me to this day.
Back in High School, a friend and I were at an assembly in the auditorium, we were were casually talking, and he siad he was reading "The Scottish Play" in English...we then went out into the hall ran around in a circle and screamed at the top of our lungs.
age 12, the summer after sixth grade, i did my first show in a community theater production of little mermaid, i had to run around the building a few songs before the finale because a few other girls and i had to run in from the back during the finale. kinda messed up my jazz shoes lmao (not the confession). i was refusing to take care of my medical needs (bladder stuff) and i peed muLTIPLE times in that costume without having it washed also i nearly cried while at stage door meeting presley ryan
I recently watched Sideways' new video on the music of Les Miserables (2012) and learned a lot about what the cast and crew did in the making of the film. Crazy! Sideways is a great channel, by the way and in my opinion. I love his video on the music of Sweeney Todd!
I have two. Kinky Boots is everything Everyone’s Talking About Jamie wants to be but isn’t. Outside of some fantastic songs (Solidarity, Once We Were Kings) Billy Elliott :The Musical is very meh.

In high school, I'd tell some people who were rude to me not to audition. If they auditioned I'd tell the director just how rude they'd been. Never piss off stage managers, we will ruin you.
I'm so glad to hear that you were nervous about non theatre people watching hamilton. I felt the same when I went with my whole family who hadn't and hadn't listened to it beforehand, I felt weirdly nervous the whole way through. So glad I'm not the only one!
mine I guess would be I have this massive fear of not being accepted into the theatre community, because I’m not a performer (I can’t sing, I’m trying to learn, but it’s hard and frustrating), I haven’t had lots of access to seeing many shows, so there’s so many things I’m not familiar with, and I’ve really only listened to the cast recordings (which I constantly call soundtracks out of habit and I also feel like I’ll get massive hate for that), and I like a lot of “mainstream” musicals/movie musicals. Like the theatre community (as much as I love it) feels super gate-keeper-y and I feel like I would never be accepted into it. (I also get really sad constantly cause I can’t sing and I’m just trying really hard to learn but not succeeding). Also I worked in tech during high school and I miss it tremendously. I went to college for writing and film production, but I do really miss and love theatre
In reference to stealing costume pieces: I’ve literally seen a director harassing an actor to give back a costume piece they stole the year before because “there is no way costumes was gonna make a new one” and the director really wanted it for the show

CONFESSION: when i was playing Chava in fiddler on the roof my director told me to get contacts for the show because she didn't like my glasses. no problem i thought, how hard can it be...turns out very hard and still to this day i can not put in contacts to save my soul. so i went through all of tech week and the performances telling my director i got the contacts but i was actually nearly blind cause i just took off my glasses. the worst part was in matchmaker where Hodel and i throw mops at each other from across the stage and i now had to do this sans glasses, the theatre gods where smiling on me though cause i never dropped the mop once.
I feel like a fake theater kid because I know like 5 musicals by heart. But I know about a little more musicals though. I also don’t know the classic musicals.
12:00 I could honestly see that happening last year I did a quick Hamilton 2 week theater camp (we performed a really edited version of Hamilton) I was king George the third. One day some of the parents came in early and saw a little bit of us practicing. The next day one of the other girls who was in the ensemble said that her mom didn’t want us to hang out any more sense I was a little too good in the roll and I might be a bad influence on her. Some people are crazy lol😂
