Definitely not unpopular, but I will never understand anyone who said that Taylor shouldn't perform Love Story on the Eras Tour. Like name one song written by her that has stood the test of time as much as LS has. To me it's her signature song and she will never ever stop performing it live, at least on tours. It's literally her most enduring hit, everyone loves that song. When I think Fearless Era, I think of Love Story.
my very masculine boyfriend became a swiftie through love story, and he mainly listens to metal and rap. he knows im obsessed with the woman and once he listened to love story again now he wants to listen to everything else. karma is literally our song!! no one can deny the hold that song has over straight men
@@raullll.222 because taylor inherently is an artist that has known to be “for the girls” and not that many traditionally masculine straight men are riding for her. but the open-minded ones that can recognize quality music beyond aesthetics/marketing see shes the real deal! I dont think music is gendered personally but it is more of an image thing. like my boyfriend is a car guy, gymbro, listens to screamo music on the regular and was not a swiftie before he started dating one haha. you cant deny taylor is not marketing herself to be appealing to these types of men, but when you put aside that and let her music speak for itself, she is a genuine quality artist with great music that expands generations and something I love about my bf is that hes not caught up in gender stereotypes and is secure enough in his masculinity to post videos going off to Ready For It with me🥰 its the difference between toxic masculinity and feeling confident in your manlihood
MAROON meaning : BRITISH : a firework that makes a loud bang, used as a signal or warning. Maybe, maroon means a ‘warning sign’ in the context of the song
okay literally a lot of new swifties are like fearless is OVERRATED? and speak now is too LONG and REPETITIVE? i had someone try to tell me last kiss is a bad song and i literally had to restrain myself.
I try not to be an old gatekeeping bitch (29, swiftie since debut) but the new hOes with these chaotic takes do not deserve to be here ✋🏼😩 last kiss walked so all too well could run and you KNOW they love atw
Newbie here! (and i absolutely love Speak Now) I feel like Taylor has such a huge discography that getting into it in the last years can be quite oberwhelming. It literally took me over a year to actually get into every album and give myself the time to learn to appreciate almost all of it. So maybe that‘s where such delusion comes from for some of us…
Personally, I interpret the metaphor for maroon as aged blood. Blood is red when it is fresh, but as it passes through time it becomes darker and maroon colored. Her feelings in the relationship were once a bright shade of burning red but over time that love died and now it’s maroon. Does that make sense? Lol
Idk if its unpopular but Taylor would 1000% shine her brightest VOCALLY with a rock album. Her 1989 tour performance of the bridge of WANEGBT gave me insane goosebumps, something her vocals have only achieved one other time for me (Don't Blame Me bridge). Cruel Summer bridge is another example of how effective ANY rock influence in her vocals is.
I disagree, not because I wouldn't like to hear it, but because I don't think she's skilled enough vocally to pull that off. It's one thing to record a phrase or a song, but I don't think she has the pipes to sing through a whole rock album. For instance, when she performs ATW 10 live she starts losing her voice mid song, and it's not such a challenging one
Idk if it's unpopular but as some who likes rock no just no she doesn't need to do a one off album in an area where she's never really seemed to be interested it's like asking her to do a rap album no
‘So scarlet it was maroon’ confused me at first cause I was like scarlet and maroon are 2 different colours you can’t really compare them, but I think she is saying she felt it was bright and bold like scarlet but really it was deeper and darker than that, like maroon. And if maroon is also a metaphor for her sadness then she’s kind of saying how bittersweet it was, like it was bright and happy but also tinged with a sadness
I like to see it that it's remincesent of views on the feelings tied to "red"intensive, wild and tumultuous...as she grows it's also dies down to something more depressing she...it's the contrast the matters too when something give you the highest wildest feelings that it's bright red and SCARLET and all of a sudden it's was maroon...I hope you understand my view if it well
@@uravergeswiftie3408EXACTLY it feels like a nuanced version of the song red, following the color metaphor… the loss of the relationship was so painful because the relationship was so passionate.
I don't know how unpopular it is but I think Folklore is her best and most cohesive album, sonically and lirically. I've been a swiftie since Red, but maybe because I'm my thirties that records speaks to me the most nowadays... Also, I don't think Speak Now is bad, but I do skip many songs when I listen to it (Mean, Never Grow Up and Innocent)
ok im sorry to upset you, if u r sensitivve but as much as i love folklore, mirrorball is my least fave taylor swift song. Pretty much ever. However apart from mirrorball and seven i do love folkore the lyrics are perfection
@Tilly2222 I didn't like Mirrorball at first either, but I ended up falling in love with it because of its lyrics. "And I'm still a believer, but I don't know why. I've never a natural, all I do is try, try, try" has to be one of the most beautiful lyrics she has ever written, they really speak to me 🥺💖
As a younger swiftie, I do agree that fearless and speak now are great albums (especially songs like dear john, forever and always, mean, etc.) but they’re more towards the bottom of my ranking. No hate to her earlier stuff.
See, I don’t think Jack would share something unreleased by another artist with Taylor without the artist’s permission, because her biggest fear is her own stuff getting leaked, and I think it would change her opinion of Jack’s trustworthiness. How could you honestly believe someone wouldn’t turn around and do it to you if you watched them do it right in front of you to someone else? Even though they are extremely close friends, Taylor knows by now that in her professional life, everyone is replaceable.
tbh I feel like the superbowl should be saved for whenever she is struggling commercially / not catching the publics attention anymore. Obviously she is inescapable right now but who knows in 5 years if she has another dip in her career and she may want to save it for the career boost and catalog boost it gives artists. i remember Gaga got a lot of goodwill from her superbowl which led to her albums doing pretty well post superbowl and it opened up a lot of doors for her after. I think Tay is prob thinking of it strategically.
This comment has changed something in my brain, bc now as a Gaga fan it makes a lot sense why she specifically chose 2017 for her superbowl... And looking at how she literally came back as a phoenix, it was a really great strategy from her tbh And I share the same opinion for Taylor, I hope she waits a a lotmore before doing her superbowl... Like save it the way you said it And even tho I'm not a fan of her, I wish Katy waited a little bit more for her superbowl bc she wasted that opportunity... And I think the hiatus after her superbowl maybe was one factor that contributed to her career downfall later on 🥲
I’ve been using retin-A since I was 13 (during the “2016 apocalypse”), and it really is a game changer. my skin type is oily. also, love this video! Speak Now is definitely in my top 3.
OMG you're actually so funny and charismatic and sassy, I love it! Your videos have become my fave Swiftie ones of all time (also we are the same age so I feel like I can relate more!) and I've just binged listened to your podcast and I'm OBSESSED. Had me laughing in the streets in public but soo worth it - you and Madeline (sorry if I spelt her name wrong!) are the coolest hosts EVER!!
I have a confession. My unpopular opinion was that I wish she wouldn’t perform the popular radio hits and instead perform more of the songs that never got tours. But then I went to the show and shook my ass to my least favorite song (shake it off) along with the other popular pop hits and I then understood why those songs are so fun and so necessary live. Though I still won’t listen to them in my personal time 😤
LOL REAL. i was mad when i saw that the triple threat of red (state of grace, treacherous, holy ground) and also red were left off for IKYWT, WANEGBT, and 22… but when i got to scream it in tour i got it. but the treacherous bridge live in the stadium would be an experience
Same here lmao, I really don't like Shake If Off but loved it to see it live Actually the Eras Tour made me start to REALLY like some of her songs, such as Don't Blame Me, The Archer, Cruel Summer and the 1
1. Taylor Swift is a pop musician who is at her best when she does pop. That is, her signature brand of intelligent, emotionally rooted, lyrically driven, storytelling pop a la 1989. Folklore and Evermore have been beautiful pandemic-time pieces, but pop is where Taylor shines her brightest. I'm all for her experiments and she's an incredible lyricist which carries her through many genres, but something about the standard verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-post-chorus of pop music really allows Taylor to bang out her best songs. 2. "Snow on the Beach" would have been perfect if Lana had sung the second verse. The way the first chorus swells and you can hear Taylor's voice almost turning into Lana's voice on the hook gave me chills, and Lana coming in on the second verse would have made it one of my favourite songs in all of Taylor's discography. People defend the song saying how much Lana's influence can be felt, but you can feel Imogen Heap's influence in Clean and Jack Antonoff in every song he does with Taylor, that's not how a feature works. 3. Taylor looks her best in pin straight hair (whatever length) and slightly more androgynous styles of dress. 4. I know autotune and stylistic production get a bad rep in general, but I actually really like Taylor's use of these techniques. She does it very tastefully (All You Had to Do Was Stay, I Did Something Bad, Delicate, Midnight Rain).
unpopular opinion: i’m worried for Taylor’s creativity for the future. critics and locals alike have clearly realised that they can’t say anything slightly critical about Taylor without this new tiktok swiftie generation coming after them. Taylor than thinks that everything she does is great, and that there’s genuinely no criticism towards her newer work. she than won’t learn anything from her work, and will continue making boring and lacklustre records like midnights and lover
how is she lacking creativity may I ask? She has LITERALLY 10 original records, each of them different from the before(10 different eras plus the re records) and lover and midnights are LACKLUSTER? I completely respect your opinion, but some of the lyrics from those albums are just phenomenal, and it's hard to deny that
I'm sorry but from what we've seen of Taylor she never thought of herself as great and would never assume everything she does is perfect? She always showed that she is very critical over her own work
@@Mel-jl8dt although she is a mirrorball, as we’ve seen in the past, she is always trying to be a better version of herself, and false positive reviews prevents her from doing that.😘
I've been thinking about Maroon and its lyrics, and how it might be related to Joe. About how as a young woman she saw love as burning red, but as she matured she realized that even though it's no longer burning red, it's still red (maroon) despite seeing them as purple-pink in the early times of the relationship.
I agree that it is a version of Red through Daylight that purposely has no resolution. She is kind of foretelling us that the colors she associates with love will be everchanging. I also think another reason is that she herself was confused about the state of her relationship with Joe.
my opinion (idk if its unpopular or not) is that it'd be a little weird when she re-records the debut. it'll never hit the same and it just feels unsuitable in my opinion to re-record her literal blueprint. no matter how accurate and true to the original it may be, i'll still most likely listen to the original debut..
I’m excited for it because I think it’s going to sound a million times better and more mature. I think it’ll make it more listenable to her newer, older fanbase
@@Winstar66 that's a really nice way to think about it actually, and im sure it'll definitely sound more mature but her young voice is part of the appeal imo!!!
i think its more on principle than anything else! of course people might still listen to the original but at this point i feel its besides the point! it'll be so quaint to hear all those songs again aahhhh
pepsi’s sponsorship deal w the NFL ended last year, so her thing with diet coke should be a non issue now. i believe rihanna was the first apple music halftime show. i think she wants to get all the TVs out before she does it, so that post-show boost in album sales goes to her versions
I’m really concerned that we’re getting close to over exposure again. I think Taylor should definitely take some steps back, even if they’re temporary.
She can’t. It’s up to her record label. I’m pretty sure that was the deal they struck. She got her masters, they get profits and creative control of merch
This was such a fun video! And honestly, so needed. I’ve had a skincare routine most of my life but just recently discovered Asian skincare and have wanted to change out my products. Also, I have been binging Evolution of a Snake since last week and I’m obsessed. Some of your takes have me shook but I so appreciate the deep dive and context from years before I fell into her discography and fandom. Y’all are hilarious.
Okay, but if Taylor were to change the lyrics for Better Than Revenge, where the lyrics to be about her re-recording of her masters and taking royalties away from Scooter and her amazing success from it would be so amazing. Am I crazy?
King Zach, video idea: Analyzing/reviewing artwork of each album, cover art, CD design, booklet, if it does show what the album represents, everything!
…watching this after she switched the damn lyric. i will not be a moth drawn to matches i am forever and always wanting to know her better by knowing the things that she does in the mattress *(woah)*
Summer Fridays has a great sunscreen. It is mineral based but sinks into the skin so nicely without leaving a white cast. Good for sensitive skin as well!
i need to add an unpopular opinion here: I really dont think taylor makes lana dupes on purpose. i think because they share producers, it is inevitable that there will be some overlap. i think taylor sometimes wear her influences on her sleeves subconcsiously. she is so into shifting genres that she forgets she still needs to forumlate her own identity to create a permanent staple in the industry. that is why when she started strayinf away from making the music she was good at making like in reputation and lover, she did not sell as much as she could have done.
thanks a lot zach now i just spent $45 on glossier but its all good bc ill love it when they come tbh!! cant wait to finally try the cloud paints you convinced me (i got beam)!! glossier needs to add you to pr list asap!
First off, you’re adorable! I’m like your parents age and I don’t do anything to care for my skin! What I’ve seen of Taylor is she is a hyper productive person, on the very high end of the Pareto distribution and that girl is not ever going to stop producing. Those peeps literally can’t stop, like ever. Thanks for the content ❤❤
I am reallllly late to this video, but I've been binge watching all of your stuff lately, and loved seeing the skincare routine! I had noticed that you always have great glow in your videos.
I feel like originally the Eras tour was designed to be a sort of last hurrah from touring, and I think she did want to 'settle down' somewhat with Joe, but while putting it all together, I think she realised that it's who she is - as much as she wanted to be private and be happy with the music and with Joe, she's Taylor Swift and she needs to shine. It is a little bit concerning to me that we're getting multiple public appearances lately with multiple celebrities, it feels a bit like we're going back to the squad and we know this wasn't a healthy time for Taylor.
I obviously can't speak on her current health, but low-key I am kinda worried about her schedule rn - I'm scared she's trying to be everything for everyone and that's just not good for any human mentally...
im sorry for spamming the chat but i have no swiftie friends so 😭 but i think the biggest reason why taylor will never be a big name transcendent of her already big fanbase is because it lacks diversity. other artists who we can consider to be on the same level of her popularity have the same amount of influence as her that just takes on different forms, but they are more likely to be taken seriously because they adhere to more global scopes. taylor, to some people, will always be fathomed as someone who makes music for white women, and i think this is the biggest disadvantage she has in the face of the industry other than the fact she has limited vocal and dance ability.
Unpopular opinion: Midnights is not album of the year material, especially compared to Lana's album Ocean Blvd, SZA'a album SOS and Caroline Polachek's album Desire, I Want to Turn Into You. Midnights didn't have the critical adoration those albums had, and the public reception has been much more muted than everyone thought it would be, considering how much the critics and the public loved Lover. But Taylor is a Grammys darling, so she probably will win AOTY
@@anushkakulkarni112 renaissance was nominated at the Grammy's though. It won't be competing them. SOS is probably gonna win, if they choose it according to acclaim.
Lol you are so funny! I Actually love Lover. It has its highs and lows, but Soon you'll get better just hits different than any song from her. And Cruel Summer is her Biggest BOP
my unpopular opinion is that swifties being irrated on taylor constantly releasing midnights remixes and merch alot more is very uncessary and taylors intentions are very clear with this other then being money hungry...the Midnights era is not going to slowly fade away, it is going to be immediately go into another thing and is most likely going to be cut short bc of re-recordings...and i feel like gaining them 1989 chart-sucsess and creating more moments like MV's coming/arriving, Hits different in streaming, remixes, and so much more is just to create a moment for us to look at and pinpoint and recognise as an actual era with actual stuff going on rather than the Mid album that was just there while we wait for a re-record.
About the sun screen (I don't know much about skin care so this might be obvious to everyone lol): I've always got acne from wearing sunscreen until I switch to non-waterproof sunscreens. The one I'm using now is SPF 30 and specifically for the face and my skin's doing fine. One wouldn't need SPF 50 if they're not staying under direct sunlight for more than two hours a day anyway, and waterproofing is for excessive sweating or swimming. You can always reapply sunscreen during the day if you feel like it's needed.
My unpopular opinion is that I don’t worship her like other swifties. I like to be a fan that can fully engage myself into her world and lore and respect her creativity and songwriting without viewing her as this “god-like figure” because that to me is dangerous to do with anyone. I also don’t know if it’s an unpopular opinion but I believe she might be a full on narcissist as most celebrities are, and it’s one distateful thing I find about her even though I still consider myself a fan. I attended her tour and it’s obvious to me that she thrives off of the worship she receives more than just in a “I love attention” sort of way. It gave me the feeling that she really does believe she is almost a god-like figure (her songs reflect it too) and it’s a shame that her life has turned into a reality where pretty much every person she comes into contact with, except for close friends and family, treat her as such. That was one thing at the show that rubbed me the wrong way because I can’t defend narcissism in any form or giving people god complexes, even if they are the biggest star in the world. I think the fans at large implicitly find her narcissism to be “deserved” because she’s just that amazing, but I can’t view her the same as them to that extent, it’s just too much.
UV film can be applied to your window to block the UV-A radiation. In the US you can buy it at home improvement stores, but not sure where they sell it in Asia.
LOVED this video!!! TS + Skincare?? perfecccttt. This is soo funny because ive literally always wondered how you get ur skin soo glowy!PLEASE MORE OF THIS!!!
Unpopular opinion on your take: the Ed Sheeran hate here feels a lot like the Taylor Swift hate from years ago of “it’s trendy to say this”. He writes from the same place Taylor does, but because his life is so out of the spotlight and he hasn’t been as open about his struggles and personal life in the past, it’s not as obvious what he’s referencing in his music. But, the fact that you can listen to Visiting Hours, F64, You need me, eraser (the extended cut), happier, etc and tell me his music lacks soul and is so “obviously” written just to get the biggest number one is really saddening. I hope you’ll consider listening to his newest album when it comes out ♥️ Him and Taylor are very similar in their musical career and their friendship is beautiful. I agree with most of your unpopular takes and love the channel, but this bit is just so unfortunate.
The Ed Sheeran hate has always been very icky to me, like it's trendy to hate Sheeran. I will never understand how someone so unproblematic can evoke such visceral reactions in people. The only mistake Sheeran has made is being white, male, not conventionally attractive, and being successful in the pop scene, and that isn't "trendy" with the girls and the gays. Whatever I guess. But it screams a lot about society in general. Excited for his album tomorrow.
The lost skincare routine video replaced by the lover ranking is the girl at home stolen to this video’s taylors version except this sounds better IF U GET WHAT IM SAYING
I love your interpretation of songs written in a transitional place as “missing something” I feel like that is a healthy interpretation. I’m here for it.
If taylor did the super bowl then literally people who want to go to the super bowl for the football wont be able to bc swifties will buy out all the tickets💀
Idk how true this is but I heard Taylor was saying no to the superbowl because she didn’t own all of her masters yet. I feel like once all of the re records are out she will absolutely do the superbowl. I think that’s my unpopular opinion for the day.
Calvin Harris made a big mistake, when interviewed by Ryan Seacrest. When asked if he ever considered collaborating with Taylor, he answered “you know we haven’t even talked about it, no, I don’t see it happening”, the interview was about the song “This is What You Came For” which she wrote and of course was a big hit. She actually did vocals. Of course she used a pseudonym so he would receive all the attention, but he could’ve at least said “maybe” or something to the effect. He said it on national TV. She was deeply hurt. He showed his true colors. They had been in a relationship for over 15 months at the time. So that was the end, well actually after that was Calvin’s famous “aggressive” Twitter rant. Dodged that bullet.
I wish I had the time to correctly express HOW MUCH I love your thought provoking video essays. I just have SO MUCH GOOD to say lol but it would take all day. So this is my small attempt ☺️ Love your content!
i think the reason it is not a good idea for taylor to play the superbowl is because she is not a strong enough performer. people like beyonce and lady gaga have put on massive stages with intense and arduous choreography that doesn't mirror taylor's main motifs that make her special. and i think taylor's comfort zone is playing the guitar and doing twirls which is not enough to power an audience that may not know her songs.
Not a strong performer? What? Yeah she’s not a dancer like Beyoncé but Taylor’s songs are part of the culture, everyone knows them. Taylor is a fantastic performer, she sells the songs
@@edenstar196 I just mean that the way she wields her stage presence is different then that of Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Her main trait that makes her unique as a performer is that she can lure in an audience through relatability and emotions, especially since her voice relies on the emotive aspect rather than the technical. I just don't think that anatomy of a performer would adhere to a public audience that is transcendent of her fanbase. Her fanbase is also not that diverse, which also happens to disadvantage her in the face of the general public.
taylor is most definitely a performer. she may not be a dancer, but there's plenty of examples of strong performances by her, i believe this shines best during the reputation era. she can put on a visually entertaining number, has incredible stage presence and has trained her voice a lot. also, there have been other shows and performers in the lastest years that taylor could easily top (rihanna, justin timberlake). i think if she were to do it, she could pull it off
@KitKat-vy5pk How is Anti-Hero better than Archer? Because lyrical wise Archer is better without a doubt. The Archer doesn't have a weird line like "sexy baby".
Unpopular opinion: The reputation/1989 tours were better than the eras tour. (The eras tour is kinda bland cause I feel she's rushing through the songs, not really adding any variations as she did previously in her tours, plus there's no surprise guests and meet and greets)
6:50 This girl was recently trying to hit on me in a bar and made a comment about my earth earrings saying she loves the planet and whatnot, and I agreed (I'm a Geography major with a concentration in Environment). When she asked what music I like I started with Taylor, and she said, "Ugh I hate her. I mean her private jet usage is the biggest thing contributing to climate change. Also I think she's mean and evil." Very bad at flirting. Then she said she loves Beyonce as if she isn't also a billionaire with a pj 🥴 It was very much giving "I use a metal straw and have a polyester t-shirt from target that says 'I 💚 MAMA EARTH'"
