its called untitled because the tape cut off on them so they couldn't finish this song was originally a tribute to Prince but the video overshadowed that which led to the what ultimately pushed D'angelo into his hiatus
This song and its video was about his vulnerability in a moment of love and sensuality and instead, people used it as an opportunity to sexualise him and treat him like a peace of meat. He doesn't even like performing it, which makes me sad because it is a masterpiece; especially the long version.
@@kytablue7707 Not so sure. He's licking his lips suggestively and clearly simulates receiving oral sex at the end of the video and you say ''people used it as an opportunity to sexualize him''. What did he expect?
@@gatinhopretolp yes, it's a thing people do when they get directed in videos/movies etc. And you saying "what did he expect" implies he deserves being victimised, when we know what his vision was with this song and what the video turned it into?
@@kytablue7707 stop projecting and acting like you know him personally lmao. Objective facts are he simulated orgasming to oral sex in the video for whatever reason and the consequence of that was people sexualizing him...surprise!
@@gatinhopretolp I never pretended to know him personally but since you want facts, there is a lot of evidence out there from his own words and those of his peers about how all of this affected him. You're the one trying to project apathy onto me.
Brother, I love your energy. New sub here. I absolutely love music. Especially live stuff. You hit on the head, that it’s the so-called imperfections that touch the soul. Keep on, keepin’ on, bro. I look forward to checking out other vids you got.
Underrated band you defo need to check out is Thank You Scientist. Absolutely insane musicianship. They have a live performance of FXMLDR that is nuts, they’re just as good live as in the studio. Love your vids man, you have such passion for music and it’s a joy to watch ❤️
I really enjoy listening to You/ Even if the song You react to isn't my thing. I have always appreciated someone who is so open minded. But even when I don't like the songs You react to, I feel glad to be Your student. Thank You so much. Here, I agree He is great, But not my thing. Bows deeply and Most respectfully to You both.
would absolutely mean the world if you'd react to 'Sleep Token - Blood Sport (from the room below) !! the vocalist is a phenomenal pianist and i think you'd really enjoy their music :)
You GOTTA react to Bilal...hes the GOAT of his generation..lol...i know how that sounds but Dangelo is a sorry impersonation of Bilal....hes THAT good...his first album "First Born Second" is an effin masterpeice!
In a way, I feel it's part of feminism to have a man revealing his naked body instead of it always being a woman. I'm sorry if it makes men uncomfortable if they don't live up to D'Angelo at this time in his life. Now they know how women feel every day with the images of other women we are faced with. Personally, I love D'Angelo and his music, then and now that he's at age 50. He's still one of the best (top 5 for me) R&B, Funk, Neo-Soul, Jazz artists of all time. I also like the fact that although this song is sexual, he's also respectful of women.
. This is more church driven than anything. Nothing to do with the funk, but also a tribute to Prince influences.. it’s definitely secular. The engineer who mixed the VOODOO album was Russell Elevado.who is from the Philippines.
You will want to check out this video on the Soulquarians who did work on this album and Erykah Badu's "Mama's Gun", i think they also did some work with Common, Bilal, and The Roots: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E3UkN62x98k.html
This sounds like a Prince song. A touch of Minneapolis vibe. When I first heard D'Angelo ("Lady"), his Prince-ness struck me immediately. Definitely an influence.
This song really jumps out to me because of his voice. I’ve never heard a singing voice like that. So angelic. But after you listen to this song a lot, you realize how amazing the beat is.
According to Quest Love, D'Angelo kept telling him to slow down on the drums. He was and has always been very hands on with everything he produced as an artist. I also love how his arrangements are reminiscent of gospel music and his background, being raised in the church. Highly underrated as a musical pioneer.
I was a huge fan of this song growing up then Black Messiah came out and it blew me away. Went back and listened to this album and it’s amazing I was missing out
D'angelos music is so soulful and captivating, i remember the first time i heard the black messiah album and listened to till its done(tutu) its what got me into r&b, soul, and even jazz. If you havent heard of daniel caesar id check him out i feel he carries that same love and experience that D'Angelo had in his music
I know I'm late but the engineer who mixed this record, Russel Elevado, did an interview with Red Bull where he talks about his time mixing this album. It's really good and it's on youtube. Also this version is just the radio edit, the album version is much longer
I am so glad you chose to review D'Angelo. He is an amazing musician However Angie Stone was an amazing Lyricist. Together they were an amazing Duo. Making amazing music. Because of this D'Angelo's second album Voodoo was a technical success. Unfortunately, the difference between the music and the Lyrical tech is evident.
You caught some the influences I've always heard displayed: elements of Prince, Marvin, Smokey, and Curtis. He does own the style and by blending those influences so powerfully. You should check out Ro James. By the way this may seems like cap. Bit those who have heard deangelo live will know its not. Go see him live he actually sounds better! Incredible performer!
React to more off Voodoo man. That album is a perfect 10 front to back. Voodoo could have been a Prince album. The mixing and production was done by Russell Elevado
You can this song was definitely inspired from Prince’s “Insatiable “. Voodoo is one of the greatest masterpieces ever made by D’Angelo! React to some of his songs from his Brown Sugar album.
Man, over Xmas I’ve just been hooked on our videos. You need to react to d’angelo live. Life changing. I know you’ve worked with Marsalis etc. Seeing Roy Hargrove and Spanky etc is tight.
