He’s completed football. One of the best goalscorers, one of the best dribblers, the best passer, one of the best freekick takers, the most intelligent player, along with the longevity of it all, and has now won everything there is to offer. He is alone at the top
Messi became the GOAT for me when he hit 73 in a single season, his talent alone between 2009 and 2012 was something i'd never seen before, like Maradona but dialled up to 10. He's been held to a higher standard than everyone else throughout his career, winning a World Cup became a thing because it was a stick to beat Messi with. He's done it, end of argument, and not only did he win it, he had as influential a World Cup as you'll ever see.
Team Argentina won. The commentator got it right. Messi was magical, Martinez was dazzling, di Maria was surprisingly delightful, the fans were the 12th and 13th man, the coaches, the backbench…everything they did was brave, relentless, risky and in the end, the right play. They gave you drama, legacy, lows, highs, leadership, stupid mistakes, controversies but always, nerve of steel!!!! No single man can ever win the cup so congratulations, the best team, Argentina!!
Why were you surprised by Di Maria? He usually always succeeds in big games. If he played in 2014 final, they probably would have won that one as well.
I don't like football. Often doesn't do much for me. I don't care about either team. This was one of the most riveting sporting matches I've ever seen. I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest. I can't even imagine how tense it was for national fans. Truly a game for the history books.
In the lead up to this, people were saying that Mbappe was surrounded by better players in the French team; that Messi would have to step it up to carry Argentina to the trophy. It turned out quite the opposite - France were on the ropes for 80 mins of the game and Mbappe almost single-handedly bailed them into the shootout. Messi had a fantastic game, but so did the rest of his teammates - MacAllister had the game of his life, Di Maria was scintillating before he was taken out, Emiliano Martinez was herculean between the posts, and the Argentine midfield made sure Griezmann didn't get a sniff of the ball.
Because Mbappe played zero football except for the goal and penalties, France carried him, Coman was amazing, Turam and the other substitutes. They changed the whole team and Argentina was tired, then Mbappe appeared, not when they were fresh.
they had in infection, Mbappe himself had the infection. They tried their best, but it was written in the stars, and that's what happened, Messi rising to the top of the world.
@@HarisKhan-sz2cz and then the referee have a penalty to France over the same maneuver and gave yet another penalty to the French last minute to tie the game after a completely accidental unintentional handball and even pulled a yellow card which was completely uncalled for! Why yes of course the ref was helping Argentina!! It's not like they got overwhelmed with Argentina's coach tactics and France had to rethink their entire formation and swap players around all over the place. Oh yeah, and the whole "but France had people with virus" yeah and Argentina had key players miss the world cup, Messi got injured before their first world cup game, got injured during the Croatia match, di Maria had to skip 2 games to recover from an injury and couldn't play the entire final (which btw it was the key factor for the French to get their comeback) so yeah, go cry in a corner.
Messi absolutely fantastic. Can't deny the fact that he is the GOAT. However, you are talking too much about him. The entire Argentinian team did a great job, and it wasn't just Messi.
This is why football is the greatest sport in the world. Football always danced along the lines of fate and destiny when it came to Messi. The main theme being (as he himself said after the loss in 2014) "the best but not world champion". Winning everything there was to win in football but yet the world cup always eluded him. The day finally arrived, the fairy tale ending the whole footballing world was desperate for: Messi wins the world cup with Argentina. What a time to be alive
@@aptmap5181 I predicted all three last World Cup winners before the tournaments began. 🇩🇪Germany 2014 ✅✅✅✅✅ 🇫🇷France 2018 ✅✅✅✅✅ 🇦🇷Argentina 2022✅✅✅✅✅ Glad to know I found them all till now.
@@smokemeakipper1076 no doubt Ronaldo is one of the greatest players but No 1 spot is cemented by Messi and No 2 by Ronaldo for me. Messi has nailed it by winning the World Cup and you have to live with that now 😊
@smokemeakipper1076 prime messi is way better than prime Ronaldo. 91 goals in one season. What's prime Ronaldo tell me? And that's just goals what about assists? Yeah can't compare whatsoever...
No matter how many times his deniers moved the goal posts when discussing why he wasn't the greatest, he always managed to find the back of the net. We should all cherish this moment as we probably won't ever see another player of his caliber and character in our lifetime.
Totally agreed. I get the feeling that people who hate on Messi or get super into the Ronaldo Messi debate don't actually enjoy football, they just know its a big popular phenomenon and they want to spout off opinions about it to feel clever. If you love the game, you have to love Messi, anyone who doesn't love Messi doesn't love football. I know I'm sounding very judgemental and black and white, so I nearly added 'that's just my opinion anyway', but it's not my opinion, it's true. There's a lot of players who I admire, a lot of players I respect, a lot of players who have given me great moments that made me stand up and cheer, even if I was sat at home alone on my sofa- but Messi has always been something special, and I refuse to believe there are people out there who genuinely love football and don't feel the same way.
this was the best world cup event thus far...with the greatest finale of all time...to be awarded to the greatest player of all time...the GOAT that is messi
@@beardedsawyer6322 Perfect observation. What a silly tackle and mistake that was. Di Maria's substitution kind of unlocked the door and Otamendi went ahead and opened it wide for the French.
And Messi "The G.O.A.T" has stamped his place finally no more arguments from his arch rival Ponaldo fans they can fancy the cup in their dreams,, Messi has worked his magic what a blissfull end to a legend
I just wanted to point out that was some of the best refereeing this entire tournament. Did they get everything right? of course not, no referee can make every correct decision. But the important part was that the ref was fair and dished out the same penalities for the same fouls for both sides. He also made some great calls during heated moments like when France thought they had another pen but really the french attacker just made himself trip over the defender. Great calls.
LOL what? So many “Messi” fans that I even know said that the first penalty for Argentina was Never a penalty. Dembele did not even tackle Di Maria and he went to ground and the referee didn’t hesitate to give it (no VAR check either!). That itself ruined the flow of the game because it meant France had to push up, which left gaps in behind for a second goal.
Messi achieving literally all and now the final one that was left has proven himself as the GOAT.. Mbappe will one World Cup already in the bag, multiple league title wins, a UCL and Ballon D Or probably not too far away from reach and finally atleast 3 more World Cups left for him is truly the GOAT in the making.. So appreciate the one you like but not at the cost of insulting the other!
You’re absolutely right, but never will Mbappe surpass Messi. Lionel Messi is a once in a lifetime talent. He is the absolute total package! Mbappe will never be that. I’m huge Mbappe fan btw, can’t speak any more highly of him, especially after today
I don’t think Mbappe will ever surpass Messi. First of all he has to move out of France, otherwise his leauge achievements will be worth absolutely nothing. Besides, Messi developed to be a world class midfielder, whereas Mbappe‘s skills are based on his pace. I don’t see any way how he would adjust his game like Messi, who never solely relied on his pace. You guys really think Mbappe will play a World Cup with 35 at this level? Never, especially with his player type. Mbappe with 23 is incredible, but has no chance at all against messi with 23. This guy was illegal back then
@@helios1336 i Think mbappe Will probably become more like a striker when he gets older just like Ronaldo. Yes his not as Big, but he Will make up for its with how lethal he is
Yes bro real talks. Messi for me he is the best of his generation to say ever when football in pele and mardonnas days were completely different these attacking players now are protected by the ref more so it’s a different game
Stop smoking whatever you're smoking. Mbappe relies on speed. Thats his gane. England shut him up with someone who runs just as fast. Who was NOWHERE in that game
What a great job of the reporter, have to say. He explains it everything, very clear... and putting in words so many emotions... Thank you and greetings from Argentina.
As a France supporter I'm gutted. Absolute banger of a last 50 minutes, like two boxers toe to toe standing still in the middle of the ring knocking lumps out of each other. Congratulations to Argentina on the win, well deserved. Great to see Messi finally lift that one trophy that has been evading him all these years.
@@ankursarkar3335 Nope Dechamps changed out all the players, who had won the World cup and replaced them with players who actually wanted to win. then Argentina got a penalty and that fired the french team up like crazy.
You should. Im argentinean and hope you feel proud about this France team, they stood up to the challenge and it could have gone to either team at the end. Cheers
90℅ of the stadium are Argentina Supporters , not all are Argentina nationals, many many are Asian Messi Fans .... Messi THE GOAT Congratulations from Tamilnadu India🇮🇳
Even if he didn't win the world cup I still would have regarded him as the greatest ever the best ever. He was my greatest and best ever ten years ago. The fact that he kept going ten years later and has almost 800 career goals says a lot
Dreams can come true ........this man proved today ❤️❤️❤️..........best player in the world bar none..... from every generation.....to come and go🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
This reporter is the only reporter that understood Argentina. 👏👏👏👏 People says we are arrogant but they don’t know how much we have to struggle to acheive the same things europeans do. We don’t have the same opportunities, many have to leave home. It was beautifully depictured ❤
The 2022 World Cup trophy is the last piece puzzle of Messi as the goat of football. It's Messian time. He saves the best for the last! Vamos Argentina! Vamos Messi!
This was a defining moment in the GOAT debate. Whilst Messi was playing champions league football with the likes of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo was injured. Whilst Messi lifts the World Cup, Ronlaldo is doing an interview with Piers as to why his mother didn’t give birth to him, in Germany, Brazil or Netherlands. The debate is done. The only thing Ronaldo could do is win a WC but he’s too old and too selfish.
@@sammarsaeed3997 the only fault in Mbappe for being the goat is the clear overlap from Ronaldo and Messi. If he was born 5 years later he could start winning trophies and accolades at 21/22
“ MESSI IS NOT JUST THE GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME” MESSI IS THE GREATEST ATHLETE OF ALL TIME!!! IM GLAD I WAS BORN IN MESSI ERA AND IM ALIVE TO WITNESS THIS PLAYER GOD YOUR WONDERFUL 👏🏻🐐🇦🇷🎉🎊🏆❤️
Mbappe scoring the first hat trick at a world cup final since Geoff Hurst. Ally McCoist responds YES , BUT THE FIRST WHERE THE BALL ACTUALLY CROSSED THE LINE 3 TIMES. Thanks Ally, you made my world cup
As a supporter of France, I've got no regrets, the players gave it their all especially the future GOAT Mbappe. Perhaps the footballing gods also wanted Messi to lift the WC on his last dance. Happy for this man as he ends his career for Arg as a true GOAT of this beautiful game of ours 🐐👑🏆
“Future goat”.. He isn’t though…. He’s a fast clinical striker… takes wayyy more than that to be the GOAT. His biggest weapon is his pace … that says it all… when Messi can walk and be the most dangerous player on the field… that is levels.
With great dedication and hard work miracles do exist. Thanks Messi and team members for joy and happiness you gave to so so so so many people in the different continents. ❤️
Well done the WHOLE Argentine squad and coaching staff. And of course the little magician who is unquestionably the best player to ever kick a ball, and didn't need that 18 carat gold trophy to prove it. 🐐🐐🐐
*Messi's rise to GOAT status* (for me): Messi surpassed *Cristiano Ronaldo* after the 2008-09 season Messi surpassed *Maradona* after the 2011-12 season Messi surpassed *Pele* after the 2014-15 season At this World Cup, Messi surpassed himself. I didn't think he would ever get it. He's unbelievable. What a man. What a team. Vamos!
The Mozart of our game for eternity. All the cynics, crtitics & haters keep throwing ur bricks at him! He take them and build another monument to the genius with them.Messi's world where the insane & impossible becomes the expected.. Leo Messi the Undisputed GOAT🐐✨
Jose Mourinho: “When Messi has the ball one-on-one, you're dead. There's no way to solve that problem. That's why I never liked to use man marking on him.
@@dnap1991 🤣 more goal and assist but 0 ucl trophy, 0 ballon dor, 0 golden shoes. Messi during his age is 10 times better. Dont talk nonsense if you just watch football yesterday
@@aqilmat1999 these trophies are are not only individual, how long did it take Messi to win Copa or Wc ? You need a good team ,even Messi once Xavi and Iniesta left he did not win Ucl anymore. @@lalruatfeela13 he just asked where is Pogba??? And that's what I answered to. Btw he, Benzema and Kante were ruled out of the WC. Still they reached the finals shows the quality of French league.
End of an era, Messi and Ronaldo. It’s a bit sad, really. One of them went on to become the greatest of all time this year. The other settled for being a petulant child. There is no debate anymore, Messi’s alone at the top.
@javidrashid2049 Not really, messi only became the goat after lifting the WC trophy. Because before that CR7 were pretty much equal. Goals - cr7 Assists - messi Shooting - cr7 Dribbling - messi Pace - cr7 Passing - messi Physical - cr7 Vision - messi Headers - cr7 Free kicks - messi Penalties - cr7 Ballon dors - messi UCL - cr7 MoTM - messi Now Messi has his WC and finishes the debate. There was always a debate before the WC though
If your team is a goal behind and chasing a game, who do you want in your team .... and most say it is Ronaldo. There is no need to hate one and love the other (leave that to the Barcelona and Real Madrid fans), consider ourselves fortunate to be able to witness both players at their prime in the last 15 years. Messi is a world champ, but Ronaldo has won more CL which is the true best of the best soccer competition. I respect both players.
We shojld never compare mbappe to messi one is 23 competing with a 35 year old which says messi is the absolute best he was engine of argentina throughout the match while mbappe came to life in the end but still mbappe played well Officially GOAT debate over
Nah, they're perfectly fine people, they just don't really like football. They follow it and comment about it because its popular, but its impossible to genuinely love the game and not see Messi as one of a kind. It reminds me of people who will tune in for a Liverpool Man City game because they know its important for the title, but say they like to have a bit of money on it to make it interesting. Like... its OK to just not like football, if you need to gamble to enjoy it, just do something you actually enjoy instead. Those are the people who talk down Messi.
Normal people watch a game of football, congratulate the winner and go home. Weirdos have serious problems and can go nuts if someone disagree with their choice of GOAT.
@@smokemeakipper1076 And England lost, best world Cup ever and England and their pundits can now go home to cold and wet weather and take their political message and LGBTQ rubbish back with them.
For Argentinian (at least), it’s never about who is the Goat. It’s about who is the God #2. Today Messi has ascended from #3 to #2. Jesus Messi Maradona
Finally released after 17 years of greatest debate MESSI ended this debate on the 18th of December 2022 becoming the Greatest football player of all time You can spend hours to realise what he achieved in his absolutely greatest career Thank you very much MESSI offering me the pleasure to witness the very best in football
Congrats to Argentina. It was an heart-attack scenario final with an historic duel between Mbappe and Messi. Regarding their atrocious first hour, France was certainly weakened by the virus. Griezmann, Dembele, Hernandez were simply without legs. Mbappe and Deschamps subs achieved to turn the game, but regarding the whole match, you have to say Argentina deserved it a little more. A great match.
Messi and Mbappe face-off surely looks intense for me. Both of them were GOATs, one is a veteran player while the other one is still young, and they live in two different countries far away divided by two large continents. We have two unstoppable forces meets each other on the same field, in the different sides (although they play together in the same football club in Ligue 1 and UCL). Its like watching a fight between Thor and Hercules or Godzilla and King Kong... Not to mention the different tactics employed by each countries' coach, Scaloni and Deschamps, whereas Scaloni uses more "situation adaptation" approach, where he could read the tide of battle and even adopting new tactics when the current situation on the field changes, giving a new refreshing touch to the Argentinians compared to Sampeoli's. Meanwhile, Deschamps still focusing on "powerhouse suppression" method, like usual, since the French has more other powerful players aside Mbappe, like Griezmann.
