As so many people have said, this is not a "typical" BAND-MAID song. That said, they are one of the most musically diverse hard rock bands that I have heard in my 61 years on this earth.

I would call this song very simple for Band Maid. We recommend other songs for a reason. Check out Hate? Noticing your Knotfest hat, the Maids played at Knotfest Japan back in April 2023. There's a short video of them playing Psychosocial because they were supposed to play Knotfest in 2020, but we all know how 2020 went. Clown is a fan of theirs. 🤘

You’re gonna be in for a trip when you do Hate live or Domination live (not the mv). This is a new sound for them for this single, which is impressive considering the amount of variety they already have in their catalogue. And yes, they are all immensely talented and yet also no egos. For them this is fairly tame and straight forward. Also make sure and turn on CC fir the next video if available because most of their stuff is majority Japanese with English interspersed.

Perceptive comments. This is on the softer side for Band Maid. They do a wide range of rock. Pop, punk, classic, hard, emo, even a bit proggy. There is a 2 song in 1 video, Manners/Black Hole, that shows some of that flexibility. From bluesy rock to controlled chaos.

The Alice in Chains comparison is apt in terms of the harmonies, especially, and the guitar sounds to some extent too. Good work noticing Misa's amazing bass playing (far more prominent on other songs). As others have mentioned, you get far more spectacular fireworks from all of the ladies on other songs. But that makes this an interesting introduction for you, being a little love letter from the members of the band to each other. It'll be fun to see how it colors further reactions.

As to your Knotfest cap, Band-Maid performed at the Knotfest Japan 2023. Shawn Crahan is big fan of them. Bestie is not the most typical song as it was co-written by Mike Einziger of Incubus, another big fan of them. Usually, they play significantly harder. You may want to check out the offiical live video of 'Hate?'. Last but not least, lead guitarist Kanami has very recently played her own PRS private stock guitarist on stage and was mentioned alongside Simon McBride of Deep Pruple in the PRS blog the day before yesterday.

You are absolutely right about Akane, the drummer, that she holding back. The drumming in this song is easy compared to what she usually plays in their "own" songs. But Akane is Akane, so if it's easy for her, she'll play extremely precise, perfectly in the pocket. She really is a phenomenon behind the drums. As you can understand, I am a fan of her and her playing. But she really is that good.

Interesting first Band-Maid song. This song is so chill. To see the other side, From Now On (instrumental), Warning, maybe Hate? live. You'll have to hold your brain in your head.

I implore you to check out FROM NOW ON which is a rock/metal/prog instrumental of the highest order and an 11 if I may humbly say. If you guys stop listening to BAND-MAID after this one song, it would be a shame. You have to listen to at least 10 songs to get a true picture of BAND-MAID. That is how diverse the music that BAND-MAID makes is, including their performances. After that, it is never too late to decide whether you like it or not.

Thanks for checking them out. As others have mentioned the song isn't really the best introduction. I like the song a lot and it is a great addition to their discography but it isn't representative of their typical song.

This is a ballad. Rare in their catalog. Band-Maid in safe mode. :) You have found one of the most creative bassists to come along in a long time. The drummer and everyone else are subdued in this song. Plus this song is all in English. Only a couple of their songs are all English. It will be interesting to see what your second song will be. This m ay the best present day rock band you have discovered and reacted to. "Bestie" is a departure from their "normal" hard rock sound. However, they used the Mike Einziger of Incubus inspired guitar riff and sound and (like all the genres they use) made it their own. "Hate?" is one the best introduction to Band-Maid since it shows how far Band-Maid has come in their musical development of over a decade intact together. A look at any of their videos (either official live or official music) will show how talented and together they are as a band. There are over 130 songs in their discography to choose from. After their collaboration with Incubus, they have now collaborated with The Warning to produce and record a song titled "Show Us" that will be on their much-awaited new album. There is a bootleg (copyright strike) video that was on RU-vid of the song which they performed at the end of their two-man show concerts in Tokyo in June. It's a definite hard rock bangers that really showed how talented the two groups are. I hope they do some more tours or festivals together and breakout that song for the audience. Just don't use the term "basic" with Band Maid, nothing is basic with them, but you'll figure out by yourself with the next song 🤣🤣🤣 whatever is your song choice, but pick an instrumental, Onset to From now on, and you'll quickly figure out what's Band Maid is about.

Band-Maid played Knotfest Japan in 2023 which might lead you to think that "Bestie" is a stylistic outlier for the band. They were scheduled for Knotfest Japan in 2020 before everything got canceled. So, they did their setlist in the rehearsal studio for their fans, it's a crap recording but it's notable for their instrumental cover of "Duality". Live Maid is the best maid....the MV's are good but Band Maid was born to play live.... pick any official Live video .. sit back and fasten your seat belts.....No God, Hate, Puzzle, Domination , Freedom ... oh so many to choose from...

You made a mistake to reject your viewer’s suggestion. Why would you do that? This wonderful collaboration is almost completely unrepresentative of BAND-MAID’s catalog of 120+ songs.

I'm a big fan of BABYMETAL Colabs, not so much of one for Band-Maid colabs .... seems to me with BABYMETAL the colabs kick them up a notch ... with Band-Maid the colabs turn them down a notch ... still great songs, but IMO, so far, working with others has produced in my mind some of my least favorite (which would still make my top 10 list if I had to compare it to anything not including straight up Band-Maid) of Band-Maid songs ... maybe I'm just acting like an over-protective jerk dad and thinking no one is good enough for my little girls ;-)
