I absolutely LOVE the high hat hits on the 3 and 4 counts of the bridges or whatever they’re called. (instrumental sections after the chorus)! As I posted in the community page, I’m going to be doing a couple of compilations of songs that there aren’t a ton of reactions for… because they are epic songs, and highly underrated. You will notice that because there are fewer reactors, they are shown more often and closer together. This song (the whole album!) is yet another staple in my life and came out when I was 15. Up to this point I had grown up largely on rock/classic rock and had just started broadening my musical horizons to other genres more regularly. I credit this artist as being a part of my “musical coming of age” along with many others. Also love “Sign Your Name” and “Dance Little Sister”. Happy New Year to you all!
Only a woman of taste would recommend the whole album. I was the same age as you when it came out, though I was musically transitioning between hip-hop and metal! I went to his warm up gig for the album tour, my first ever gig.
Wonder momma, you do realize you’ve got the opportunity to cover the entire Led Zeppelin 2 album? There’s 6 all time, ALL TIME Rock/Roll on that single peice of albumtry(first time word, feel free) also zeppelin 4 but 2 is the best. Also 3 has bron-yr-aur stomp on it & that’ll blow minds.
Pretty much the same as you except my parents played all sorts from 40s to 80s opera, country basically all music and yet we hadn't even scratched the surface lol got to love music love from New Zealand
I saw Terence Trent D'arby at Ronnie Scotts Jazz club when he first came to London, back in the mid 80's. This skinny kid walked on stage with an acoustic guitar & started to sing a Sam Cooke number. His voice was like hot buttered velvet. Peace out.
This song brings back memories!! He’s so amazing and so underrated! He deserved a lot more success than he got, at least here in the states. Another great one of his is”Sign Your Name.”
I can't believe I found react copmpalation TT D'Arby also known as a Joker. I was a huge fan of this guy. He used to be a boxer before turning into music field. Great guy
For anyone who this is the first time hearing Terence Trent Darby, the debut album this song was featured is FANTASTIC, FUNKY, JAZZY, R&Bizzy!!!! It is so worth buying the entire album and just sit back and enjoy the ride! He has changed his name, and has pulled away from mainstream music industry, but his follow up albums under his new name are amazing…I adore this man and his voice is so sexy and rich sounding. I get Such enjoyment when listening to him.
The Hard Line and Neither Fish Nor Flesh are absolute must haves. Full of an amazing arrangement of tunes by TTD. A master singer and writer. No one was hurt more by the Milli Vanilli debacle then this amazing artist.
One of my favorite songs all-fucking-time. Music of any kind doesn't get much better than this song. His voice. The beat. The lyrics. It's just... hot damn there was never a better time to be alive. I was only 5 when this came out and I usually feel like this is a song from that early 90s New Jack Swing era(best musical genre) because we were still rocking to it. I'll jam this song for the rest of my life.
So digging watching this compilation and seeing my fellow soul-brothers and soul-sisters vibing out to this song like I do. Heard it over 30 years ago and it's captivated me ever since. Much love to you all. Keep your vibrations high xoxo
A real pleasure to behold! Thanks for the usual excellent effort. Helluva debut album! I used to obsessively listen to "If you all get to heaven" when it came out while I was in college as well as this funktastic tune!
He should have been. Insanely talented. Unfortunately for TTA and music in general the moment he himself started describing himself in “goat” terms everyone turned their back on him. Thin line between confidence and arrogance and people don’t like it.
Thanks for the compilation! It’s surprising that more reactors haven’t reviewed this song. They must know it already 😊. Great editing as always. Take care and Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉
I know I know we can’t help it. We were born in a time to have four decades of the greatest. In American music history.🎉😂❤ No applause just throw money 😙🥴
I love that you put the mix of this song's volume WAAAAAAAAAY up. 80s songs that get posted here on YT typically have a volume deficit. Great job as always. It's also cool you put up some1 who probably hasn't been seen as much as the other acts you've done. D'arby is like Hendrix in that you never would've guessed he was in the Army.
So, as the story goes, he changed his name later to Sananda Maitreya... stating that "he watched his suffering as he died a noble death. After intense pain I meditated for a new spirit, a new will, a new identity" He felt intense pain and has PTSD... he felt the need for a "rebirth"... I had always wondered about him, did the PTSD come from childhood or the Army for which he was dishonorably discharged for going AWOL.. either way... I loved the "gravel" in his voice... though he is still actively playing music he is a very private person , my hopes are that his pain of PTSD did wane with the change of his name and that his gravel to the high "hats" play on to those who are fortunate enough to hear him...thank you WonderMommaOG, it has been a long time since I thought of Terence Trent D'Arby... and I loved this song when it came out... what a great memory!!!
Happy New Year to you too WMOG!! Thank you for sharing great music and memories throughout the year through your videos. Your compilations are a gift ❤. Love Terrance Trent D’Darby. Played the hell out of this cassette when it came out.
For those of you who havnt heard "The Hardline" it really is a brilliant record !! Unfortunately for TTD his ego may have killed his career. Dude has one of the best voices I have ever heard !!!
I’ll never understand how he didn’t get huge!! I bought the cassette tape when it came out. 🤭Showing my age😬Like Living Color’s Cult of Personality, actually the entire album-so talented and underrated. Just a shame😖
Hello and happy 2023 everyone . Wmog this is a great song from the eighties. It's one I had forgotten about, it reminds me of Prince. Some good Funk without overpowering the vocals. Thanks friend and take care.😀✌️🤟
His arrogance got he best of him.... He so could of big as Prince and MJ But He was So arrogant before he even got huge, and it didn't help what he said about the Beatles
Ha! I was listening to your Yazoo 'Don't go' video read your comment and you mentioned this song...surely i thought she would have done this too...yup sure did, what a tune! This reaches somewhere down into the spine and makes ya wanna move.
I always appreciate what you put together with your compilation even if the artist isn't someone that I'd normally listen to. Plus you've got Rob Squad Reactions on this. I don't follow a lot of reactors by Jay & Amber are probably my favorite.
He was a jerk. He killed his own career because he thought he was the second coming. He learned the hard way that the music industry doesn't work that way.
Love this! I think the only two reactions to this I'd seen were from K.S.O. and Empress, but I didn't know there just weren't many who've reacted to it. Kinda surprising, as it was a big hit at the time (def. remember the heavy MTV & radio rotation) and still stands up today (that voice! those moves!). But I guess you've helped rectify the oversight by making this excellent compilation.😀 Like you, I was very much a rock and metal guy back then, but I loved this song enough that I bought the album. I remember he also appeared on SNL around then; did this song and a cover of Under My Thumb, which I thought was an interesting choice.
I was married to a big, tough, crazy Marine whose two favorite things to do were dancing like Terence Trent D'Arby's backup singers in this video and doing the Safety Dance in the car. In traffic. With other people around. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I need to find that version in the intro! TT D'Arby was sooo underrated. I think if he wouldve came out at a different time he may have blown up more bc there was so much competition. I'm glad he lasted long to bless us with great music and still to this day
Here you go! INTRO/OUTRO COVER: Jolan - Wishing Well (Terence Trent D’Arby Cover): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C37sAFyZfkI.html ( I always put a link of any covers I use in every video in the description.)
this guy should have been way more popular. i read he was very hard to work with and producers and record companies kinda shunned him. no idea if true however.
@landon Brown ex cult member indeed, I should have stated native in that England adopted him and he had his chart hits there. He is indeed a New Yorker.
Here you go... these links are always in the descriptions if you hear any others you want to know about. Thank you! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C37sAFyZfkI.html
Terrence and Michael Jackson came up in the same time. They are both influenced by the same people. Everybody screws with TTD and says that he’s not original and it’s the most unbelievably unfair assessment ever. He is so much more talented than MJ.
The dude has been around for years. MTV flogged him to death, I guess you weren't listening and the radio stations you listen to have been letting you down.
We all know who ruined his career. All this nonsense about his ego. It was a terrible thing to do to him. He was brilliant. Such a shame. Jealousy. Love from London. Jan 🧡
You have to do SYLVESTER DO YA WANNA FUNK THIS IS A WOMAN , SHES BLACK AND THE VIDEO IS HER HEAD WITH ONE BLONDE BRAID SMOKING A CIGARETTE IN A LONG HOLDER THIS IS FABULOUS THIS IS THE BEST VERSION. 🤪
