Terence Trent Darby is a bad man !!! One of the most underrated Artist in the 80's & 90's. Vocally he always reminded me of the Late Great Sam Cooke. Since then hes legally changed his name to (Sananda Maitreya), resides in Milan, Italy & still making music til this day !!!!
I told you he is amazing... what a talent Terence Trent Derby.... one if my all time favourite.... great to see your reaction .xxxx. from Birmingham city uk x
So glad this didn’t get blocked! He is such a talent. After he finished school he was in the military and when he got out he was living in Florida where he became a Golden Gloves boxing champion. Then he became a pop star, a really good one too. He is still alive but has changed his name and lives in Europe. Very mysterious guy! Thanks for the reaction!
Just read his bio and read an interview.. I guess living well in europe with wife and kids and still making music isn't too bad of an ending for Trent aka Sananda.. I do think he's a little odd.. but so was Michael and prince and others who didn't survive.. so He apparently made the right choice.
The entire album: The Hardline According To... is amazing. Not a single bad song. But, to experience the real purity of this man's voice you must hear the album cut ( not a single, so no video) "As Yet Untitled". Yes, that's how it is listed. If you don't feel some type of way after hearing that song then you have no soul.
I fell in love with this song first time I stumbled into the video on MTV back in '87. The catchy tune and Terence dance moves really got me! You should listen to whole album 'Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby' if you dig this song.
I loved this dude when this came out. His cover of “whose loving you” is amazing. Sooo smooth. “Dance little sister” is a good one too. I never understood why he didn’t become much bigger.
Yeah this guy was the truth back in the late 80's The rumor was his ego became real big (hard to work with) .....Notice the sheriff's badge on the outfit...He was telling prince, and Micheal to watch out there is a new Sheriff in town
I enjoyed your reaction. I love Terence raspy voice. Michael Jackson came out in the late 60s. Prince came out in the late 70s. Terence came out in the late 80s. Michael said Prince careers was at their peak in the 80s. Hollywood music industry didn't want Terence disrupting Michael and Prince careers and fame. Hollywood elites helped forced Terence out of the music industry and the US. Terence moved to the UK and changed his name. Hollywood elites felt Terence looked similar to Prince, didn't need another Prince. You can research Terence...speaks about his music journey in interviews.
Yay - another sweet request! I love remembering when i first caught these videos on MTV when MTV used to be cool. I love how so many songs from this era had a flair for real romance. Gosh i think u may like Brand New Heavies " Brother Sister"
You have just discovered my favorite singer of all time! I'm a day late seeing this, but I'm so glad to ever see anyone reacting to Terrence Trent Darby, or as he is known now - Sananda Matraiya. He moved to Europe years ago, and changed his name, but has never stopped putting out great music. I'd rather hear him sing than 10 Michael Jacksons. In fact I have his concert DVD with him performing the Jacksons "Who's Loving You" live and for myself, it's the greatest vocal performance I've ever seen and heard. Its so hard to choose all-time favorite songs because so many are great in their own way. But I can easily say TTD or Sananda Matraiya, no matter what he's calling himself, is the greatest singer I've heard, and being a musician since as I was a small child, I've heard a lot. I'd love to see anyone react to his live performance of Who's Loving You from Ohne Filter, 1987.
Dude you are almost at 100K I love it. You in that little corner nook making videos. No elaborate intros or design just you and the music. Good stuff!!
Please react to "sign your name", and "holding on to you " (live from London) both by Terrence Trent D'Arby. Terrence changed his name to Sananda Meitraya. He is now married with children, and lives in Paris. He was compared to Michael Jackson/Prince, and he hated it, although they had much respect for one another. Terrence vowed to never return to the United States, and as far as I know, he never has. Nephew, Terrence/Sananda is so very underrated. I listen to Terrence music on a daily basis, on my commute to/from work. His music prevents me from having road rage, for real, for real. Happy Holidays nephew. 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
"Sing your name" "holding on to you", and "O Divina", ALL by Terrence Trent D'Arby aka Sananda Meitraya. Terrence changed his name to Sananda Meitraya, moved to Paris France, and is now married with children.
Dance little sister'' Is a fantastic song by him..I think you'll love it! and also Sign your name'' wich I played all the time when it came out I was 16...still love his songs. Also I thought he was a mix of James Brown , M J, and Prince! but was still his own performer.
O wow so nice that you have stumbled on Terence Trent d 'Arby.. always felt that he wasn;t appreciated enough. He changed his name and I think he lives in Germany now. But during the height of his career.. he made so many cool songs. There is this album.. Symphony of Damn with the most beautiful songs on it. Like "Delicate" and "Let her down easy" . such a wonderful voice this man has.
He once said to the press that he was going to be bigger than Prince or Michael Jackson, that he was going to be the next big thing….and all the Michael Jackson & Prince fans (& the industry too) turned on him.
Yeah he claimed he was "bigger than the Beatles". LOL Let's be very clear here. You can try to dig up a cover of this song anywhere and it will never come close to this vibe. Dude was unique and could have gone very very far. Before his time really. He would actually have been better off saying those things in todays world but back then, we weren't having it. That ancient egyptian hair though and that rasp... damn.
This is and was my song back in the day !! I love him I played pool and put this in the jukebox box every time Love you channel ! I liked and subscribed a while ago Love your reaction to this immense talent !! 💜
Terrence D'arby changed his name to Sananda Maitreya back in October 4, 2001 after going through emotional and hard times. He is still preforming and was living in Italy.
Terence Trent D'Arby was big here in the UK where he started his professional musical career. Before coming to London he had played with a band in Germany for a while. He was born in the US but has mainly lived in Europe - in Italy for a long time. He has also changed his name.
When he first came on the scene I never remotely thought he sounded like either Michael Jackson or Prince. So I still don't get it. He's very much his own artist.
This song probably came out before you were born..lol. It's still one of my favorite " cheer me up " songs. He later changed his name. He sang Hold On under his other name
I had HUGE crush on him when this came out, I was 14. Listened to my cassette tape of his record til it wore out. Still melts me when I watch his videos.
Thankfully we had a few more hits in the UK. If You Let Me Stay, his first single, was huge, and there were later ones like Holding On To You, Do You Love Me Like You Say, and Delicate, a lovely duet with Des'ree. Man has *serious* pipes.
TTD was simply a brilliant artist. Phenomenally gifted! `Twas a pleasure seeing someone else agree with me. Though had no doubt after hearing him, you wouldn't ;- ]
Later career as Sananda Maitreya. D'Arby legally changed his name to Sananda Maitreya on October 4, 2001, explaining "Terence Trent D'Arby was dead... he watched his suffering as he died a noble death. After intense pain I meditated for a new spirit, a new will, a new identity".
Terence has the moves and swagger of MJ, Prince and James Brown. React to his songs If You Let Me Stay, Dance Little Sister, Who's Lovin' You (Jackson 5 cover), Let's Go Forward, Sign Your Name, If You All Get To Heaven, To Know Someone Deeply Is To Know Someone Softly and Holding Onto You please.
I can't believe that in this day and age people still haven't of artist like this! I you to listen to this hard when I was in school (still do for that matter!). His whole debut album is definitely worth listening to. He now goes by the name of Sananda Maitreya.
Will NEVER forget this song. Was hooking up with a girl and just as she was going down on me THIS song came on. She was incredible and this song reminds me of her everytime
Did you know that he went on tour with INXS after Michael Hutchence died in 1999?? Michael Hutchence and TTD (he was actually called that) were friends.
Don't know where D'Arby went after this but I ran out and bought the 45 rpm. He's got the gravel in spots, and at lower volume he can bring out the sand. Unique sound .
