For me, the most heartbreaking line was when the Doctor mentioned the World War 1 uniform and then the Captain asks, "What do you mean, one?"

Some people did call it the First World War before it was even over, they didn’t assume there would be another but they knew there could be.

@@PrinceIMC they started being called ‘World Wars’ in 1917 when America joined WWI. However the first actual use of World War One in text wasn’t until 1940 after Roosevelt popularised the term ‘World War Two.’ Before then it was referred to by many names by many different people, including; The Great War, The War Of Wars, The War To End All Wars, The Terrible War, The European War, The War For Civilisation, The Kaiser’s War, The Trench War, And lastly; The Monarchy War.
@PrinceIMC
@PrinceIMC 2 года назад
@@alexanderharris5022 I didn’t say World War I, I said First World War. A war memorial in Queensland erected in 1920 called it the World War. Before that though in September 1914 German philosopher and biologist Ernst Haeckel said “there is no doubt that the course and character of the feared ‘European War’ will become the First World War in the full sense of the word.” Charles a Court Repington published his memoirs in 1920 about the war and called it “The First World War”.

So fun fact: the ring that drops off 13's finger once her body comes in is Capaldi's Wedding Ring. In canon, it's 12's ring to River, but Capaldi kept it on for himself, for his wife; it was never originally part of his costume.
@tenmark7055
@tenmark7055 2 года назад
Its a little different . Peter does not remove his wedding band so they had created a second ring with the gem that fit on top of his wedding band. What you see dropping off is the false second ring.

The Doctor's line about children being able to hear his name apparently came from a comment Peter made at a convention. Him and Moffat were doing a Q+A session and a young child asked whether the Doctor's real name would ever be revealed. Peter ad-libbed the response and Steven evidently liked it so much that Moffat remembered it and decided to include it. I think they've said that they did a lot of rehearsals of Peter's final speech where him and director Rachel Talalay tried different variations of the scene. The only thing that Moffat asked them to keep the same as the script was to end on "Doctor, I let you go" as it was his own final line as well.

I loved how much Capaldi's Doctor developed (at least compared to some of the other Doctors) sometimes in noticeably drastic ways and sometimes in very subtle ways. My personal favorite development he had was his views on hugs. When he 1st starts out he says he's not a hugger to Clara, but by the end of his Era he was definitely a hugger and valued being close to his Companions.
@kivimik
@kivimik 2 года назад
I think the turning point on the hugging was around "The Girl Who Died." Once he admitted his fear of losing people and realized why his regeneration chose that particular face, he started to allow himself to get closer to people.

Upon his regeneration into 12: I don't think I'm a hugging person anymore." At the end of his life: "Cuddle." That line about only children knowing the Doctor's name was from something Capaldi said during a convention when a child asked him about it, and Moffat liked it so much he put it in. Yeah, I love how great his arc was as the Doctor. You start with him being all 'She's my carer -- she cares so I don't have to' and end up with such kindness and emotional depth. It's rare that we've seen the Doctor go on such an emotional arc, as in the past s/he was often just basically emotionally reset each season (at least for the most part). But I love that for the Twelfth Doctor, he learned lessons about himself and grew from that -- and we got to see it all performed so brilliantly by Capaldi.

Capaldi quote "War doesn't decide whose right. It decides whose left" Good or Bad I just wish they'd make more Doctor Who content. It's sci fi. You can always fix what you don't like. But you got to keep making content man. For the last few years people have been worrying (some supporting) that the show will go on another hiatus for like 15 years. I really appreciate what you guys said at the end about giving it a chance. And I think you guys are right, I never really liked Star Trek, but watching your reactions to TNG warmed me up to it and now at the point where I'm almost done and thinking to myself "Do I go on to Deep space 9 or Voyager now.. 🤔" which I would have never thought possible. When it comes to Chibnall's era though, I think that the magnitude of the reaction is proportional to the level of respect that the producers and writers have shown the fandom and the source material. I think most of us were excited to see this new incarnation of the Doctor, but were disappointed from the writing, and when we expressed our critique were either ignored or patronized by "the powers that be" telling us that we are the ones that don't know what we're talking about. I have to be honest, the only reason I myself have gone past "seething rage" to quietly outraged, but able to watch reactors and reviewers is because I myself have stopped watching it, and it seems the rest of the world is finally catching up to what we fans have been saying all along. Yeah' I'll join along with you, and I even promise to be civil, but that's because I was _finally_ heard and am calm now.

I actually took time off of work to see this in theaters (i never ask for time off, im an OT guy). It was the last special in theaters here. I was literally the only one that showed up with Capaldi's 2nd sonic screwdriver.

There probably are a "supercut" (or two) of the Doctor's regeneration speeches on YT out there. Unfortunately, Colin Baker never got the chance on broadcast TV as he was unceremoniously canned by the BBC after his contract was up. Sylvester McCoy also didn't get much of anything as he regenerated in the first quarter minutes of the TV movie. This Christmas special is among my favourites because of its lack of villain. Rather than a typical adventure story, it's a tone poem about memory, letting go and moving on.

This was a fitting climax to Capaldi's tenure and David Bradley turned in a tremendous performance (despite the occasional miswriting of the First Doctor's character--he was never the sexist portrayed here). I'm looking forward to the reactions to Jodie. Contrary to much of the fandom, Jodie has quickly become one of my favourites (despite initial misgivings) and I really enjoyed Chibnall's move back to generally smaller scale stories; no more bombastic overblown, 'oncoming storm' but rather back to the very fallible but morally sound character I grew up with back in the 60s and 70s (yes, I've been with the show since Hartnell and, yes, despite my youthful good looks I really am that old...).

"I would like a shortcut of every final speech and regeneration" . You're in luck; there's a video the Doctor Who YT channel out out showing every Doctor's regeneration from the first to the thirteenth: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mcggi9kXiaY.html In fact, maybe you two could do a reaction video to it. But if not, then there you go, Paula.

The world is what WE make of it, each of us individually. This is a personal responsibility that we can't delegate to anyone else: not to family, friends, spiritual leaders, or politicians. And we had better get busy, or someone else will come along and do it for us.

It would be interesting to see Paula react to a super cut of regenerations. Some are far less dramatic. Speaking as a huge fan of Clara and Moffat and this episode it pulled me out of the ep as well. (My head cannon was that he never forgot. Just lied to her face in the diner). Another fun reaction. Loved it. I love Jodi’s Doctor and her era as a whole. Can’t wait to see those reactions. No matter which way they go.

You both look great! More so than usual. lol Someone else mentioned that Katrina looks a little like Death from The Sandman series. Was it intentional? Would say his latter part of Capaldi's run was the best. Although, you could look at it as them simply giving him character development. If you start out with him being "perfect", where do you go from there? I had totally forgotten that he gets his memories of Clara back. Good for him! As you can see from the comments already, the next era will definitely have strong and mixed opinions. Can't wait! Allon-sy!

Simultaneously the least Christmassy Christmas special while being the most impactful Christmas special by showing how Christmas carols literally stopped one of the bloodiest wars in human history, even if only for one day. I'm not a very religious guy, but this episode was incredibly moving for that reason alone, not to speak about how gutted I was to see Capaldi go.

I'm sorry ladies, I have to ask...Have you seen anything from the classic series, or have you covered only the new version? I'm asking to determine how much of an impact the reveal of the army Captain's name (Archibald Lethbridge-Stewart) had on you, whether you are aware of the importance of his descendants in the Doctor life.
