Say hello to Clara for another season because they wouldn't let her stay witten out after her character arc ended. As for Jodie most people I've seen felt the biggest problem with her as the doctor was she was never really allowed to put her own stamp on the character and how it was in her regeneration. What they hated was the preachy episodes, real world politics where they didn't fit and weren't needed (UNIT was disbanded because of Brexit, but well have this random regular army forces show up to be killed instead) and disrespect for established canon in the shows history. Such as MI6 not believing in aliens after three major and undeniable alien invasions in London.
One of the frustrating things about BSG reactions is that the how compels you to speculate on who is a cylon, and since I already know I can't point out things from past episodes you may have missed in your analysis. Guessing at who was a cylon was the major source of entertainment for fans on the messageboard back in the day. (Or some of us...there was also a group of anti-fans of the "They made Starbuck a woman" / "Stardoe" variety...and that was good press for the show, as it turned out.)
Now that we've had the anticlimactic resolution of Clara's mother, honestly any curiosity or willingness to speculate about Mrs Flood has just gone right out of me. I'm just left thinking: 'Why should I ever care?'
This is the episode that solidified my dislike of Clara. "I am owed". Deliberately stealing the TARDIS keys because she feels she deserves to have the Doctor break laws for her. Fairly sure she doesn't even ask first since she knows it's wrong just tries to sneak around and force him to do what she wants.
Yeah.... so speaking for Dr Cottle..., I recommend taking 1/2 a Xanax 30 mins prior to the next episode.., you know - to help quell the RAGE of emotions you'll be going thru !!!! Here...., I've plotted an emoji timeline graph for you : 🤩😃🙄🥺😵🤬💔💯😭☮ 🤗 🤟😴
I think there's more to the situation with her mother and with the whole "Carol of the Bells" and Ruby's nature and her split off existence from 73 yards. After all, there's still Mrs. Flood and the presumed special and then of course, the Meep referring to its boss. We know Ruby will be back next season. SO I think the Doctor is lying about all this.
No No No ..... Road's mum was clearly insisting with her pointy finger at the Road part of the sign, she was not called Ruby but Road. I enjoyed the final but I feel the stuff relating to Ruby has rather too many holes .... why the snow and the choral singing, how can Ruby's super power memory create a Tardis full of things she has never seen? If you are ever looking for other series to react to (though you prob seen them)... for fun mad comedy I recomend the TV version of the vampire mockumentry "What We Do in the Shadows" or alternatively the SciFi series "The Expanse" ...the latter can take a few episodes before you are hooked & hanging on for the ride.
The problem with these 'light' episodes is, you KNOW something dark is coming soon!! Funny enough, "The Closer" and "Major Crimes" (Mary McDonnell's show after this) had the same pattern. Look Out!! One of the things I love is haw shows like this examine prejudice of all types; you can easily replace the Cylon in "Cylon Lover" with many demeaning names we all know and it hits the same. As for 'shipping', don't let the ones with the young bodies blind you to other relationships!
The title of this episode refers to both the dead city on the time planet and New York itself, where the timeline will either be restored or disrupted. In Ellison's original script, Kirk, upon first seeing the city sparkling like a jewel on a high mountaintop, reverently says it looks like "a city on the edge of forever". In Ellison's first treatment for this episode, the city they travelled back in time to was Chicago.
Makes my BSG heart oddly happy to see the both of you so emotionally invested in these characters as I!!! Glad you have warnings for the next episode and yet as triggered or emotional as you may feel, it's in my humble opinion one of the best episodes. I have LOVED Karl Helo Agathon since day one. Looking forward to your upcoming reactions ☺️💚 Thank you.
The eye candy is nice yet very true, what we see on television is almost always unobtainable by the majority of us. Henry Cavill has a couple interviews explaining the dehydration technique that he did preparing for Man of Steel, it sounds awful!!!!!
The Flight of the Phoenix Novel by Elleston Trevor. Based on a real-life event from World War II. Movies (1965 - 7.5 stars & 2004 - 7.5) A desperate group of people on a transport aircraft that crashes in the middle of the Sahara Desert have to find a way to save themselves. This bumps up against S.F. and I highly recommend you watch this movies. I only saw the 1965 movie and remember the all-star cast. Honestly! It was filled with stars well-known at the time
I don't want her to be, I don't think she will be, but if I had to justify Clara as Mrs. Flood? Trenzalore Clara not just going to past Doctors. Then just age up. Considering "Last Christmas", that's annoyingly less ridiculous a concept than I'd like. Overall enjoyed it, but also did get stuck on the lack of mention of the 14th Doctor and TARDIS. I get there's explanations, but it really didn't need much of an on-screen explanation to satisfy me - even the woman who gave the spoon got more of one (the mention of there being planets he hasn't been to). Did catch Messaline in the list of planets - meaning they haven't *completely* forgotten "The Doctor's Daughter". Just now wondering... did they ever look at the TARDIS with 3D glasses on? Because how do the time particles interact with Sutekh?
Fun fact: in the show's bible, Apollo was described as a test pilot who liked to cook. And Starbuck was the one to test flight it. That says a lot about the dynamics behind the scenes..
Thank you for the body image discussion. It affects men as much as women. This coming from someone who has a body like a Chris. Not Evans or Hemsworth or even Pine. Farley.
One of my favorite episodes. That scene with Tigh trading engines for booze from Tyrol was amazing and the whole “common ground” thing was right on the money.
I was never daunted by the grimness and the nastiness in Battlestar Galactica, and it was the only series I have seen where if you see one episode there is a strong urge to see another immediately afterwards! Perhaps its grimmer by American TV series standards. Mind you I live in the UK and really good UK TV series are a lot more grittier and grimmer than their American counterparts- and Battlestar Galactica is positively light compared to certain UK TV series (Line of Duty, Prime Suspect, A Touch of Frost, etc.). Also, for BSG, keep paying attention to the human attitudes towards the Cylons and the attitudes of the Galactica's crew about having a Cylon live among them- it's a subtle thing but I think the racism and hostility between humans and Cylons is one of the show's strongest features. It has fascinating commentary about actual racism and bigotry that range from the overt to the subtle.
I look forward to your reactions to these now , it's proving to be a great series . The Blackbird was a great way to bring people together in a developing crisis Not quite sure what more Sharon can do to prove her allegiance , having said that her predecessor killed several of her copies before shooting Adama . No real reason but I do think the baby has made her the genuine article . Talking of genuine articles , are Whoppers the same as Maltesers ?
The type of pipes used in the incidental music for the show are uilleann pipes. They're a bagpipe of Irish origin, but they've also found their way into Scottish music as well. Rather than using breath to pressurise the bag, as is done with the more familiar great highland pipes, they use bellows which are pumped by the right arm (Northumbrian smallpipes work the same way). The instrument can be seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P40YOU8ggJk.html
Really loved the intro, was just talking to a buddy of mine who was kicking himself six ways to Sunday for not being some gym poster boy. Going to recommend he watch this video in particular.
You're overthinking the Cylon stuff. They transmitted the footage, probably to one of the raiders(which, when killed would have "respawned" with the data) it's as simple as that. All the Cylons are individuals, think of each model as a whole bunch of identical siblings. They showed D'ana for no other reason than to let you know the one in the fleet is a Cylon, that's all.
Mary McDonnell (President Roslin) was apparently fighting a massive fit of the giggles during the commissioning scene of the Blackbird, and improvised the "smash the champagne bottle" bit to cover it. Since that was a real glass bottle rather than sugar glass, the concern from the other actors is genuine, and worked so well they left it in. In fairness, no-one had told her that they were going to name the plane "Laura" beforehand, so that reaction of her being so touched was also genuine (and heralding the start of her giggle fit) (as for why their characters would be concerned- the thing was a performance machine, but the hull was only carbon fibre [pretty much] over a tube steel frame. That bottle would break the brand new plane's skin, and potentially do some serious damage to the innards, and they only just built it...)
I mean its only unrealistic because most of us are too lazy to put in the effort at the gym. Most people could get in shape or jacked if they put forth a dedicated effort.
Getting fit is absolutely a thing people can do, but we're talking about the drastic actions that are taken to make a body look *that* ripped. Hugh Jackman has literally stated he can not shoot scenes like that anymore (along with other actors) because of the grueling, unrealistic process they have to put their bodies through. Even body builders talk about how before a show they have to dehydrate themselves in order to show the bulging veins and muscles, but that is not what they do in their regular day to day.
@@KatAlysha Sure but you can still look ripped if your body fat is kept low. And you can cheat by spritzing yourself down with a water bottle every so often so that you glisten XD
@@KatAlyshaIt's not even whether you can, or how, but that beauty standards are external and objectifying. It's ignoring the person. Also, "fit" in this sense doesn't automatically mean healthy, nor is it needed to be healthy.
sigh i love this episode so much! the laura name reveal makes me sob lol. and even though the next episode has a very hard moment its one of the best episodes ever. especially the intro
