I loved the modifications to the melody that Geoff created - really made one take notice. Peter Barber's review pointed out the instances of minor/major chord changes from the original. Not everyone will like Geoff's choices, but he certainly made the version his own.
I, for one, LOVE his arrangements. The best way I can describe it is he has a way of making notes melt into each other like nothing I've ever heard before and it's brilliant.
Totally agreed. 🙂 Or you could say "acknowledgement, anger, and resignation/disheartening". Or something of the like. 🤔 At least, this is what I felt. 🙄
Requiem is a good word, yeah. Original: Is this anything to worry about? Pentatonix: We can fix this, if we work together. Disturbed: You were warned and NOW YOU MUST PAY. Geoff: I am so, so sorry.
So I've been a huge "Sound of Silence" fan since first hearing S&G's version almost 40 years ago. And when I was the soundboard operator for a high school play, I convinced the director to use the song. And I fell in love with it all over again when Disturbed covered it back in 2016. When I saw that Geoff made this cover, I knew he was going to make an amazing cover. And his arrangement is too notch. Especially when he made did that powerful transition at the end. Just like how Disturbed was building up to the climax, Geoff did it in his own way. And he did not disappoint. And I especially loved that even with the harmonies, it was just him. Just the one Geoff. Like I didn't even catch that there wasn't the multiple Geoff's until my 3rd or 4th play through. He is an amazing vocal artist, and an incredibly smart producer of his music videos. Geoff made me once again fall in love with this song. And Your reaction mirrored basically all of ours...🥹
You said after Tomi P. that this is your second cover of this song. I hope that doesn’t mean you’ve missed out on Pentatonix’s or Disturbed’s covers. They’re both fantastic as well.
Considering his others great works (Monster Mash, Ghost Riders, Rains of Castamere) and now The Second of Silence, I seriously doubt that we have seen his best yet. It's scary and yet exciting to think about Geoff's future in music.
Great reaction as always. Guess I'm on my own lil island, I don't know what it was but I didnt get the same feeling/vibe as I have with Geoff's other covers. Not saying it was bad, I just enjoyed Pentatonix' version better.
Would you love to hear Geoff do homage to “Bridge Over Troubled Water” as much as I would? I’m going to keeping suggesting it to him on his channel constantly.
For what it’s worth….I’ve watched this a few hundred times now and I’ve yet to see the whole video. Somewhere about when the heat drops, my eyes slam shut. There’s so much going on audibly that it takes all my brain power to process it and I have nothing left for visual input.
I see you have learned not to wear eye makeup when you watch Geoff.😂 Children of Men was a poignant movie. 😢 Geoff worked on this for a very long time. I can’t remember exactly but I know he was talking about it in november. So he really did put a lot into it. I think he was a little nervous about releasing it but it turned out so good that even he knew it was good in the end. He is so humble.
Super nice reaction as always. 🙂 I love this version, although it's the saddest and most somber I know of. The anger of Disturbed's version turned into the DESIRE and DISHEARTENMENT of this one. You may have notice how at EVERY "end of cycle", even after the "crescendo" at the end, everything suddenly drops out and the only thing left is that low volume, kinda breathy, "resigned" so to say, "...of silence". Makes me want to cry. 🙂 On a totally different vibe... I stumbled into a video that I'd dare to suggest you to react to. Maybe. A weird and hard and difficult one. "Hi Ren", by Ren. I swear I cry EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I watch it, and even now, just thinking of it. So intense and powerful. 🙂 See you next time!
I always love your emotional reactions. They are so pure in a way and you make emotions visible that (every?)one has when listening to the songs. Thank you for that! BTW.: It just came to my mind, because it's one of the most emotional and artistic videos I ever came across that left me behind thinking "Was it beautiful - or terrifying?": Did you ever watch the piano version of "Mein Herz brennt" ❤🔥 by Till Lindemann/Rammstein and Sven Helbig? I really would like to see your reaction - but your opinion/impression would be enough if you don't want (or can't) do a video with that. The song is in German, but the lyrics are very short and you find translations/explanations of the background in English, too.
There will be a new VoicePlay video probably on Friday. (Patrons have it now). Once again, Layne tugs at the heartstrings as only he and VoicePlay can.
This actually feels like the end soundtrack of an epic movie, where the lead died at the end. Imagine like V for Vendetta, with this playing as the train rolled away.
I always love watching you get into the music!! Also, props to Eli for the lighting and Layne on steady cam. Got to love how our boys support each other! ✌️❤️🎶
