one of my new Favorate Geoff Castellucci Songs..... really appreciate your honest raw response.. ive seen many take apart the musical nuance, but you just lived the song....
Oh gosh, I was an ugly-crying mess as soon as I really thought about the lyrics. I’m in Boston, and even here, I can smell Quebec’s beautiful forests burning. Hearing this song performed with such heart and such beauty just made the whole thing horribly immediate, you know? I’ve been a Tolkien geek ever since I first read all the books in the fourth grade, so I have an emotional connection to this music anyway, but life imitating art in this case is heartbreaking. Safety and protection be with those fighting fires tonight - may they return safely home to their families when the flames are put out.
Not a nerd. I still haven't seen all the Hobbit movies, though I do have them on DVD. I really need to get round to it. Geoff clearly has seen them too as he loved this song and wnated to reprise his Misty Mountains dwarves. It's probably best not to wear eye makeup to watch this one. I love your heartfelt reactions. Bless you.
Hearing Deep Bass Geoff sing the word "Desolation" just pulls the soul from me a little bit... Never having actually experienced THAT low of a low, it almost lets me know how it feels.
*For anyone who doesn't know Hotshots is the name for forest fire firefighters while Smoke Jumpers go into remote regions often by plane or parachuting to fight fires.
I really appreciate how he didn't make this one big and bombastic like he does in some of his videos, but really kept it within that... almost somber space. This song isn't a victory song, it is the eye of the storm... that moment of calm before the other side of the storm comes crashing in against you, and he does an amazing job with that. In my opinion, he now desperately needs to do The Last Goodbye to round out the trilogy.
Geoff makes all four characters look like they are actually different people. He is quite amazing! I think we have his wife to that for that. She’s really creative when generating these characters.
Lovely reaction. I've had the original of this on my playlist for years & I've always loved it but I never really felt anything. The way Geoff has arranged this it just makes you listen to the lyrics, follow the story & it's beautiful.
He's so insanely good. I'd kinda like to hear him do a duet with Ed Sheeran on this one. He's got to finish the trilogy with The Last Goodbye. That song is so gorgeous and he'd be perfect for it. Well, he's perfect for any song but you know what I mean.
He can sell the intensity of the songs ......SO WELL!.......The world is a better place for having Geoff, and VoicePlay existing in it........aliens, as they may or may not be.....>^^
oh sister this is about the 10th time I have listened to this and I still am tear-ing up. I feel like there is a great big sob in me ready to come out... :)
Look, The Hobbit could have been done in two movies, but quite frankly, I'll watch all the Middle Earth I can get. As long as I don't have to read it. Not that I don't like reading, I just can't stand Tolkein's writing style. Meanwhile, lemme ask you a question - if you know you're going to react to Geoff (or indeed Voiceplay), why do you even bother doing your eyes?
My friends and I did that with a special showing of the Lord of the Rings extended editions at our local theater. It was 12 hours 😅 I had to smuggle in sandwiches to get through it.
Q : Is it not impossible to be saddened by a Hobbit? A : Oh, yes. Quite possible. And Even probable if they sing tales of friends and nature, singed by the harrows of war. AND, when they find out a) printer paper is out of stock, and b) a certain set of pens has a prolonged/drawn-out shipping time due to overseas origins. Just sayin.
Im not certain how i came across your channel, but I'm glad I did. Thank you for putting in words the emotions Ive felt on so many of these but could never express. You are amazing, keep it up!
I'm a total Tolkien geek. I have been since I was a teenager back in 1983 when I first read The Hobbit. But I just heard this for the first time last night. It's pretty awesome!
I hear this, & I hear a prayer... ... whether it's for survival, for victory against Smaug, win-or-lose, what I hear is: "Please don't separate me from my brethren. Whether we all live in victory, or all fall in battle, it's all the same... ...but please don't leave any mourners behind... ... I'd rather survive as a memory than go on without my kin."
If you thought this was amazing and you like rock music, you must MUST see and please react to Peyton Parrish Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold (Metal Cover) you will not be disappointed i assure you!!
I've never heard this song until Geoff did his cover. And I say that as a huge fan of Tolkien's works. How big of a fan am I? Melis anolya. Nás mara nin. 'The Hobbit' is my favorite of Tolkien's works to boot. I guess I just wasn't as big a fan of Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' trilogy as I was of his 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy? For a variety of reasons, many of which are good, though none of which would take away anyone else's enjoyment! I just say all of that to explain that I never heard or even heard of this song before I saw it show up on Geoff's channel. ... I cried my first time hearing it. And every time after. We all appreciate when Geoff digs down to bedrock, but after a while, that's just candy. For me, what really hits is when Goeff does something heartbreakingly sweet. 'Blackbird', 'Till Then', and now 'I See Fire'. If he never hit an earthquake note again, I wouldn't mind... so long as he kept doing songs like this.
Thank you very much young lady for yet another great and very moving reaction by you!!.....that was the first time i saw it...and i absolutely love and am always touched by your tenderhearted reaction to what you are seeing!! make sure your loved one gives you a great big hug in comfort! Take care!! p.s.....Peter Hollens had made a rendition of this song a number of years ago which i always really liked! however this rendition by Mr Castellucci is pretty much on the same level!!
This is a great version, though I do prefer Peter Hollens. I too did The Hobbit Trilogy in one theater go. In honor of Pride Month you should watch the One Voice Children's Choir singing "True Colors".
I’m glad I’m not the only one who cried listening to this! I love seeing videos like yours and feeling a sense of kinship about my enjoyment of things like this! You’re awesome, keep it up :)
