I am glad someone is finally appreciating Frida. She permed her hair sometimes, which was fashionable at the time, and so many people are mean about it. But who else could wear a perm and a big ole turtle neck sweater and still look amazing?? Plus her eyes look extra green in this video.
Super Trouper is astage spotlight, this song is supposed to be life on stage and touring. They wanted to film the video in Piccadilly Circus London, but the council refused as they wanted to use live animals and there was too much risk involved. They filmed this video in a warehouse in Stockholm. Interesting fact, Benny and Bjorn wrote this song in 1 day as an album filler, but went on to be number 1 in countries around the world.
The big stage spotlights are called Super Trouper. The song refers to them. "Super Trouper lights are gonna find me / shining like the sun". And "Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me/ but I won't feel blue"
Well, thank you for this video and return with your reaction and comments to ABBA songs "Super trouper" (1980) was the nine and last single #1 to ABBA in UK ; and it was the #1 (with the album too) the day than the iconic John Lennon (one of The BEATLES, the historic group) was murder It's the opening track in Their seventh album "Super Trouper" , that was #1 too in UK and several countries of all continents This album included the most heartbroken song "The winner takes it all" , it shows how versatily ABBA is, two songs different in style and lyrics and lead singer, and worldwide hit too in "Súper Trouper" you can hear clear the brunette Frida amazing sweet as a lead singer, the blonde Agnetha fantastic in second voice (as could see specialy in the second verse of the official video), and a beautiful melody with power and catchy chorus (with 'a capela' parts) "Super Trouper" is in my Top10 of ABBA songs and my Top5 of Frida as lead voice in ABBA songs Another great song with Frida in lead voice wich have an official video is "One man one woman" (1977) See you in the next video to ABBA songs My best regards to You from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
At that time there were people who followed a band (or a troupe) wherever they went for a concert or event; even at the hotel where they were going to lodge. They were true fanatic fans and called themselves "Troupers". ABBA also had their faithful troupers. But this song is telling of a very special trouper; a Super Trouper because he's a lover coming to meet her (Frida) this evening. So beams are going to to blind her on the stage, but she won't feel blue like she always does whe performing at the concerts, 'cause somewhere in the crowd there's her Super Trouper. I was a twenty-something then and would have loved to follow ABBA everywhere if I could; just to meet Agnetha. You too can identify yourself in that Super Trouper who goes to see Frida.
Two reactions in one day!!! Maybe react to “Two For the Price of One” next lol. I’m glad you enjoyed Super Trouper. It’s one of the best hits the band had and Frida’s voice is mesmerizing in it. Super Troupers are spotlights used in big stages.
Great reaction. I grew up with ABBA. Their music was the soundtrack to my high school and college days in Washington State. I bought every one of their albums and even took Swedish in school hoping to make a trip to Sweden one day to see them perform. Haven't made it yet but never say never.
When ABBA first formed they entered a contest in Europe singing Waterloo but never won that year because it was in their native Swedish tongue. But the following year they sang it again and won the contest. Later, when they all signed a record deal ABBA's song Waterloo hit the airwaves that year and went on to sit at the number one spot for weeks. Since then during the seventies and hit after hit gaining more ground, the group's sales outperformed Volvo in the fiscal year alone. Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, fridA... otherwise known as ABBA by their initials had ingrained into the minds of youths all over the planet. The beauty of Agentha and Frida's voices were insured for millions strictly because of their ability to synch and harmonize so gracefully together. They helped to pioneer and lead other groups into the future where singers either solo or duo or multiple voices could wow the crowd with such talent. The best thing, is that both women never once before an act had any alcohol or taken any performance drugs to boost their vocal ranges and, they also practiced Opera notes before they hit the stage. This was why their singing was so clear, concise and haunting. There will never be another group like ABBA. Some may try and some may succeed, but people who will listen to new music will remember who started it all.
Frida has made some amazing solo songs too. I Know There’s Some Thing Going On is great. Phil Collins produced it and played the drums. In the video Frida plays a woman who suspects her significant other is cheating on her………
I don't think you are understanding the lyrics, "Supertrouper LIGHTS are going to FIND ME, SHINING like the SUN....Tonight the supertrouper BEAMS are gonna BLIND ME, but I won't feel blue....." The man you see with what you thought was a big camera, is a SPOTLIGHT known as a "supertrouper" because it is a very large stage spotlight with a very bright beam.
As stated by others, a 'Super Trouper' is a powerful spotlight that is used in concert performances. The spotlight that features in this video isn't actually a 'Super Trouper' but a substitute, used for effect. A Super Trouper is even bigger than that one. Like many ABBA songs, it sounds joyful in the chorus but the lyrics are quite downbeat. It's about the grind of being on the road and away from your loved ones.
Possibly the only hit song named after a type of spotlight. It was a big deal back in the day and the album also named Super Trouper is one of their best.
By the way next year in Sweden is to celebrate the 50 years of ABBA... With “Waterloo” in 1974. It was the 19th edition of the melodifestivalen contest, hosted at the Brighton Dome in the UK... And will be hosted in Stockholm City next years... Welcom to Sweden gays and girls... AND HAVE A PARTYYYYYYY - 2024...
the title is a play on words. a "troupe" is a group of performers, such as dancers or a circus act. a troupe always has the spotlight on them during their performance. the song is drawing a comparison between being the center of attention in a circus, and being under the same spotlight while singing on stage. circus performers get to rest between acts, but she has to go on stage and sing for an entire concert. she has to be a "super trouper" to make it through the show, but she knows someone special is in the audience, so that keeps her going.
So I read a long time ago that Bjorn wrote this song about missing his new love Lene. She was going to be in the audience that night they performed in Glasgow so was excited as touring had become tedious at this stage. The Super Trouper spotlight was the inspiration though
@@viciousLUA no but after writing this I read this 13 November 1979, touching the end of their European tour, ABBA were performing in Glasgow, Scotland. Björn was tired of concerts and life on the road. Missing his soon-to-be wife Lena who had stayed in Sweden, he had her on the phone that very same night. The thought of soon reuniting with her gave him the strength to go on. That’s where the lyrics came from apparently. Different versions of the same outcome of them missing each other none the less.
I don’t know what these people are talking about 😂 A “trouper” is a show business term referring to someone who goes on no matter what. You get a telegram that your favorite uncle died - you go on and do your job performing for the people.
