Very emotional, personally I think it's a good thing to have your own interpretation of what a song is about. To me this is about death, the first part is the pain, anger and regret you may feel about the end of your life and the quiet part is acceptance of that end.
@SarahraeLivingLife

I can see that. Thank you for sharing. This is why I love add the interpret part, to hear your guys as well.

You hit the nail on the head, Pink Floyd has often for me, reached a kind of 'religious experience' with their music. They had an uncanny way of immediately getting your full attention and then transporting you into an alternate reality, centered around their brilliant music with timeless, still relevant themes. They just had to know they were making utterly memorable music that ultimately has turned on yet another generation and will be listened to as long as man loves great music. Do Money off the same, incredible album, it follows this song. Thanks again and enjoy! 🎵

As far as interpreting the music you're doing exactly what we did in 1973 when this album came out! There were no videos back then other than a few late-night shows on Friday and Saturday night sometimes. You're just doing what we did interpreting the music in our own way in our minds so you're doing fine!! In other words you're doing what the artist meant for you to do and that is interpret art in your own way! Although one thing if you do a Pink Floyd song at one of their live concerts keep your eyes open because they are as visually stunning as they are musically! One thing that comes up in this song is the five stages of grief. Pink Floyd told her to think of awful things wonderful things and just go for it and she did this ad-lib! The five stages of grief as follows denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression and finally acceptance and if you listen to the song carefully you can feel all of those stages. She starts out angry and loud and ends up with acceptance floating away into heaven at the end.
@SarahraeLivingLife
@SarahraeLivingLife 2 года назад
I can definitely see the 5 stages. Also of course I'd have my eyes open at a concert haha. As for the interpretation of songs by them, thank you.

I've grown up believing that once the artist releases the art it's really no longer the artists. It's new owner is the interpreter. That said, You are 100% correct on your interpretation. Some will argue this song is about the stages of death. When the reality is, the entirety of our lives are our own personal stages of death. Peace/JT

Roger Waters and David Gilmour are famous for not explaining their songs in too much detail, preferring their listeners to overlay their own meanings on to them. There are a couple of songs where they do talk about them in detail and most Floyd fans know which songs these are. I like the way you talk about how the music makes you feel, because this is at the heart of music. (Some reaction creators try to translate lyrics too literally which often misses the mark by a mile and then also fail to describe how it makes them feel…)

Years later, she was given a writing credit and a settlement for her work here. The song was originally part of the music soundtrack for film called Zabrinski Point but it wasn't used. The music was written by keyboardist Rick Wright and Clare just ad libed her vocals with basically no guidance. They only did a couple takes. Amazing results. And I think she earned her credit. And about that hair in the back....I thought it was like an Asian-ish type deal like when they stick chopsticks in their buns, with the Kabuki makeup....and then I saw it move🤣🤣🤣🤣!

That’s a worthy interpretation of the song, and aligns nicely with the intention. Following in from the song Time, GGitS is generally regarded as representing the stages of grief, beginning with fear, anger and denial, and gradually moving to acceptance and a state of grace.

That's a pretty good point. I know Pink Floyd is a headphone band and I always listen to ALL music with headphones, but it should also be said that using headphones doesn't mean you actually HEAR the music. I don't remember who said it, but I know there's a somewhat famous quote about how there's a world of difference between listening to music and HEARING music. You can put on a pair of headphones but that won't make you take in the music and let it consume you. Maybe it helps, but it's not everything.

The female singer in this piece is a British vocalist named Clare Torry. She totally improvised the entire piece in one take. In the beginning of the song there are vocals in the form of a male voice saying "I am not frightened of dying. Why should I be? There's no reason for it, you've got to go sometime." Also, after the second portion of her singing, near the end, if you listen very carefully you can hear David Gilmour whisper to Clare, "Make it sound like you're dying." My point is that your interpretation of the song was VERY accurate.

I like your interpretation very much, but it is about someone learning about impending death and moving from anger to resignation and acceptance! It seems that you appreciate metal. Might I suggest to you a band from Japan called the Wagakki Band. They are a metal band that combines traditional instruments of Japan into their metal and rock. They were supposed to be the musical act to open the Tokyo Olympics, but with covid it never happened. Too bad because the world would have learned of this superior band. They are superb musicians and I suggest that you listen to this youtube video to acquaint you with them. You will not be disappointed. It’s an interesting generational thing going on here. No criticism, but a cultural observation. Music is currently mainly consumed streaming song-by-song, it’s the way it’s offered up for people to consume. Up until the mid-1960s it was the same. Most music was bought as single-song 7” vinyl discs. Two songs split on the A side and B side. Then over 1966-67 artists realised that the LP (long playing) 12” format could be more than just a collection of songs. It could give them a 40 minute canvas they could paint on. First was possibly The Beach Boys with their Pet Sounds album… closely followed by The Beatles with Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band albums. Artists realised that an album could be like an audio movie. Dark Side of the Moon emerged five years later, and was arguably the pinnacle of the so-called ‘concept albums’ with each song merging seamlessly with the next. No exaggeration, it is immeasurably enhanced hearing it in one go. Listening to one song is akin to walking into a movie half way through, and leaving ten minutes later. That said, I’m enjoying the insights on this channel. Keep going!
@SarahraeLivingLife
@SarahraeLivingLife 2 года назад
I get that but not all albums are like that, where they are creating a story like dsotm. I believe it is up to the person to decide on how they want to consume the art, not anyone else which is why I am sadly having to put those disclaimers in these videos. Though I get where you are coming from much like I have stated in the video. Glad you are liking my channel though. Album review is coming.

Great that You decided to do entire Dark Side. You will not regret this, I'm sure. Life tempo of today steals time from us. We land of in a treadmill where there is no time enough to enjoy pleasures like Pink Floyd albums. But whenever new one was becoming active, as a gift for listeners, Dark Side was aired at night. Whole album. I miss this practice today. Cheers

Would love to see you react to the band Poets of the Fall and their song Carnival of Rust (their most well known song and the music video got voted as the best Finnish music video ever back in 2006 when the song was released). Truly an underrated band from here in Finland. Also a band with many different sounds all the way from slow melodic songs to full on rock. Although if you want to immediately hear a song that showcases how crazy good the lead singer Marko Saaresto's voice can be (and while his vocal range might not be the most dynamic out there he is an amazing example of what you can achieve by having absolutely perfect control of your vocals especially the raw emotion that his voice is able to convey) then i recommend listening to their song Daze. His vocals on the chorus are something out of this world. I just think that so many more people would love their music if they just ever heard them but since their from Finland it rarely happens. Although many have heard their songs in Remedy's video games Max Payne 2, Alan Wake, Quantum Brake and Control (Also every single reactor i have seen reacting to them has been pretty much blown away by their music so i'm very confident you'll like it) also... also... lot's of deep and meaningful lyrics and wordplay in their songs sorry for the long rant i just really want more people to know about them :D

It's good to interpret songs as you do. Sure, the band intended something, but your interpretation doesn't undermine it, nor does the band's intention mean they've built an interpretive fence (or wall, get it?) around it. I'm glad you're going to listen to the whole album at some point. Many of us also first encountered Pink Floyd's music as single songs here and there, and when we also finally got to hear an entire album in a single sitting, it just made the experience better. Nicely said about your presentation / video😁 The tracks that preceeds this are a very short intro track "Speak to me" and then "Breathe(in the air)", "On the Run", & "Time" each of which takes a look at various stages of life, its challenges and fears. So once you hear those then the most common interpretation of TGGITS is the stages of Death, so there's anger and disbelief and acceptance etc etc. Its that whole thing of each track on TDSOTM sets the context for what follows 😉 So really happy your going to tackle the album. BUT HEADS UP if you select each track 1 at a time you will get really abruct ugly cuts because all these tracks transition directly into each other. Best advice, if possible, do it as "Side A" then "Side B" and chop the reaction up afterwards. If that's not possible try to overrun the transition and then rewind a bit for the next track reaction. (I know that's a pain). Alternative just prepare for the ugly chop off between tracks. Hope that's helps😁 Great job so far😉
