My question is: How did Immanuel Kant's ideas spread from Konigsberg to to across Europe; why would some aristocrat have such influence from so far out of mainstream Europe? How did they travel so quickly; and how did his ideas overwhelm European thinking at that time?
I attend art school and I can assure you that these people are just an echo chamber of cliche ideas that art professors pound into your head. Not a single orginal thought came out of their mouths from the handful of clips that were shown. I dont think they understand many of the aspects of art and its influences or how much art is influenced by philophies, they lack understanding beyond the surface level. This is why art has become stale and meaningless, there is no integrity and pride in craft any more. It is all just the most cliche ideas repeated over and over again through every student that has been turned through a university. All the students think they are so unique and smart but they are only capable of producing 3 ideas in their work: Depression, Racisim, Government bad, and Social issue without any idea why they are painting these things. They all think they are going to change the world.
Dude. You blew their minds. Literally. They couldn’t put their thoughts together properly. They just couldn’t grasp what you were saying. You shook them at their foundations. You blew their minds lol
Things like Truth itself is a universal, that things have a nature in and of themselves independent of our personal interpretation is another one, tautologies like numbers, beauty is a universal as well (though some think otherwise following the axiom that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... when really beauty is where you choose to see it - for the most part - in as much as knowledge and understanding correspond to the level of the individuals capacity to come to terms with whatever they are examining) The reality that things are intelligible and the fact that we are rational animals means that we have the capacity to say very definite things about most anything. Intelligibility is a universal. We understand that things can be understood and that their natures are discoverable - much much more can be added but I just wanted to give you the thinnest of outlines but I hope this piques your curiosity and satisfies to some degree, if only a little, your question.
@@joedawson7205 How do you even translate what you said to a painting? I happen to think Rothko’s and Hilma af Klints paintings are beautiful, but according to this Nic fellow I’m somehow tricked into believing that. I also think many of Odd Nerdrums paintings are beautiful, as well as many of Rembrandts or Van Goghs paintings. To deem something universal is a damn hard thing to do. We do not have the same standards of beauty, so that makes it more or less impossible.
@@cellarroom1580 With respect to universals. We can say that all triangles have three sides without having directly experienced all triangles. Universals underpin the particular instantiated realities that we see all around us. Now, I'd say that beauty and or the appreciation of beauty is inevitable. The degree to which we can experience it is relative to the individual, given any number of factors. Not having the same standards does not draw a line to impossibility: Rather it indicates possibility because we are appealing to a standard. I'd say that we are often tricked into believing more than we might suppose. There are many reasons to think so - philosophy/psychology/theology et al., Anyhow, thanks for the reply. I'm astounded to find that anyone should think to do so. Cheers.
@@joedawson7205 Sure there are mathematical truths, like what you mention. But I don’t get the impression that’s what the Nerdums pupils are talking about. To me it seems like they’re talking about universal truths as universal values, and that’s where I think they’re on very thin ice. This combined with a (purposeful?) lack of both knowledge and understanding of contemporary art makes it hard to take these guys seriously. I do however admire their dedication to the craft, and in that sense they inspire me. But I think their idea of what art is is more or less a so called “straw man”. I appreciate a discussion though. :)
wow... why does the woman have such an attitude? " I wouldnt talk to his ass " I cant believe she would go on air being so rude and ignorant and talk like she does.
