This song this performance are just so wow! I remember always having a thing for TTd’s music even though I’m a total metal head. The album this is from is absolutely flawless- songwriting, production the whole 9yards. What a massively talented guy he is. His debut album is also phenomenal. 🤘
I was fortunate to be at this gig..it lasted around 3 hours..and it was the best gig ever..you're right, the record company didn't know what to do with him lol..but Sony ( Michael Jackson's) label bought Columbia out..then Michael gave them an ultimatum..him or me!?..Michael knew this cat could out sing him...beautiful thing is sananda maitreya is still alive and still making us smile
This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen. It so powerful and his voice is amazing and the guitarist is brilliant too! TTD is an amazing singer/songwriter and is so underrated. He is truly a legend! You have great insights and this was a great reaction video! ❤❤
Singer is so versatile, interpretation is beautiful. Wow, that guitar player has a sound, that rhythm section gives me Rolling Stones vibes. Great performance.
Dude! You nailed it. “Did the record label not know what to do with him?” That’s a very on point. They wanted to steer him in a more commercial direction which he didn’t want. Luckily they let him do him. But they would not promote him. And he got really frustrated and moved to Italy and changed his name to Sananda Mitraya. He’s a really good dude. He was really arrogant during the first album, partly because he was pushed to do that for marketing purposes, but he also believed it. The label was always pushing a rivalry between Michael Jackson, Prince, Terence Trent D’Arby, and Madonna. But he humbled up ever since. And he’s a really thoughtful and good dude. Also: yes, he is the writer and plays almost every instrument on all of his albums except for the first one. So again, it’s honestly surprising that they let him do that. Thanks so much for this reaction.
He just did an incredible interview with Questlove on the Questlove Supreme podcast (you can find it on YT). It is fantastic and they will work together. You can tell. He's so great. And it is an overdue tribute. I hope that some who love TTD/Sananda will check it out. It is amazing (a little more spiritual than I believe, but whatevs.)
Terence Trent D'Arby❤...maravilhoso e inesquecível!! Meu cantor favorito na juventude e não me canso em vê-lo repetidas vezes, aqui no youtube. Guardo também, com muito carinho seus discos. Divina voz e performance!!! Ele é único!❤🇧🇷
He has a more rock twist from this point on in his albums, he also filled in as the lead vocalist for the band INXS around this time, these videos are on youtube. Check out his more rock leaning singles like: Inner Scream, VIbrator
Awesome. D’Arby is the living embodiment of Jaco’s infamous quote, “It ain’t braggin’ if you can back it up.” TTD was a bigtime boaster in the 80s (“Point blank, I think I’m a f$&@ing genius,” etc) - kind of the original Kanye in that regard. But man, can that guy sing. I much prefer this style of gospel vocalizing over the more modern variant, with that trilly, almost mechanical-sounding, vibrato. Joss Stone sings in this style, too - far more Tina than Beyoncé. Love it.
This guy was a master. I really wish that he had been more successful because he was unique and had the most phenomenal voice, phrasing and timing. Am I right in thinking that them’s all his own words too? Taylor Swift has never recorded a track as good as this. Life is so unfair. Never mind, I think that you were fabulous Terrence.
