I paused for commentary about 3 times (hope this was enough)
Thank you to everyone that suggested this song!
It's a LONG song, SO get comfortable and take this "Joy Ride" with me. Here We GO!

I'm a life long, 53 year old male metalhead..... I watched and listened to Nightwish for the first time, in one of the first reaction vids I'd ever watched. It was Ghost Love Score, (Wacken 2013)..... As soon as I heard Floors's voice, tears started welling up in my eyes, and I actually began to sob, for a few breaths, until I was able to suck it up.... Goosbumps, more tears throughout the song, and that final high note at the end, literally made me sob, uncontrollably. I was dombfounded and confused! All I could think was, WTF??? I've listened to, and respect many genres of music....No one has ever done that to me! No one!!!! I don't really ever listen to lyrics. Just the sound of her voice does it to me! Everytime I hear her in certain songs, or hit certain notes.... I get a shiver down my spine and tears begin to well up. I'm still trying to understand it.... She's simply amazing to me. That point at 16:37, when it got you, it got me too..... that ethereal, otherworldly voice, just leaves me dumbfounded and speechless. So I've been a fan for only several months, and now you seem to be a fan now too. To learn more about Floor, and how she got into the band, etc. You must watch these 2 documentaries I'll add below. They will paint a clearer picture for you. After I watching them, and then watch the entire Wacken 2013 performance, you will have a much greater appreciation of how talented she is. At that point, she took over lead in one of the most popular rock acts in the world! (I'm so angry I never heard them/her sooner) And in the matter of how she just stepped in, learned a 14 song setlist in 48 hours, is mindblowing. Then to realize, just a few months later, when she stepped onto that stage at Wacken in the headline band, in front of nearly 90k people...... It gives me chills everytime..... Now my favorite rock performance, ever!!!! You're adorable! Glad you appreciate their music too! God Bless! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vhExkmWKMEU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B3NIfu0qvtg.html (You may need to click on the CC closed captioning button on the right to get the English subtitles) A bonus, Floor singing Puccini.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Od_qcbw3f5Q.html

Thank you for doing this. I love this song so much. I truly believe it's one of the best pieces of music that has ever been written, up there with Mozart's Requiem and Vivaldi's Seasons. I'm a scientist, the themes in this work just really speak to me, and I honestly cannot count how many times I've teared up at the "We Were Here" screams. To me, they represent something truly existential. They are humanity screaming towards the heavens, we just tiny hot embers that will fade away, almost insignificant on the grand scheme of things, but yet here we stand...we will die, our flames will go out, we will be forgotten, but we were here, and we must live life to the fullest and savor our few decades in the sun.
@corbintaylor5503
@corbintaylor5503 5 лет назад
We Astrophysicists have a tendency to be reminded of these big existential questions on a daily basis, so having a song that touches on that, while also talking about our connection to the Universe, just makes it special. "We are one, we are a Universe."

@@corbintaylor5503 It does the same here, like you i am a scientist (evolutionary biologist) and this song brings in perfectly the process that went from the very beginnings of life through to beyond our own eventual extinction. @@evorock Funny thing you mentioned those masters, because Tuomas had written (hidden) links to those masters who existed here on Earth before this song. There are parts from Bach's symphonies and from some other classic master pieces (which names I don't know but recognized those parts) and from Metallica (Metallica is the reason why Tuomas got hooked in metal when he was a teen and exchange student in US and happened to see Metallica for the first time). Those musical references were in thsi song not just as "re-mixed" riffs, but as telling a story of the song, evolution, and how everything here is built upon what was here before us and how coincidence plays a part in evolution. This song is truly a master piece and should be part of high school biology studies.

„There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.“ - Charles Darwin

The Greatest Show on Earth. In a nutshell.
@n5iln
@n5iln 3 года назад
“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?” ~ Richard Dawkins
@eddiewinehosen6665
@eddiewinehosen6665 3 года назад
@@n5iln That for me is the most profound part of this. Ofc the music and the lyrics is just exceptional but that just sums it all up. We whine and fear death when we should celebrate it. Mortality means we lived! There's a scene in Troy of all movies when Achilles, played by Brad Pitt says "The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now." I don't subscribe to any gods but the sentiment of the statement is the same.

@@jeffk1482 It gets me in the same way man, there are so many little details in this song, it truly is a masterpiece. To me it all says, we should appreciate the time we have. That whole section after the primal stage where they're grunting like apes, notice how all the imagery while they're singing about humans is all fire and destruction, but then when it slows down again (you can hear this better on the album version), there's some tribal music, baroque music, there's a Gregorian chant, a harpsichord all these different eras of music to say 'look at what we've accomplished too'. We're all here by an absolutely minute piece of chance. But when it's all over, we were here :) So much of Nightwish's music is littered with loads of amazing little details like this, some of it barely noticeable like in some songs Tuomas sort of inverts the arrangement toward the end or he'll make every chorus different in some way. Oh Kelly. You made me cry..I adore your open-hearted and genuine emotion here. You weren't to know, but this song is broken down into movements, with the first being '4.6'. You instinctively knew that the fireworks were a visual analogy to the chaos of the planets forming. I just wanted to mention that following the crescendo and finale of the 'We Were Here' section, the visuals take over, and as we listen to Dawkins and watch the band take their bow, the music seems to be less prominent. And yet, the mix of strings and horns are magnificent. Moving on Kelly, before you react to 'The Poet and the Pendulum' you must do some research on the motivations and emotions behind the song. Only after you have done this will the true impact of Tuomas' genius hit you. Thank you so much for being in our lives. God Bless

As every one knows (I hope), space and time bends thru the universe. Now we have this song what bends time here...20 minutes long song feels like 5 minutes. Maybe this song is something that NASA will also use when time comes to send humans to the Mars. Order to astronauts will be that just listen this song all the time and your 12 weeks journey feels like only 3 weeks....

Not a bad little song is it! 😀 Tuomas is a genius, it took me a good few listens until I understood this song. You seemed to get it straight away. I think this will be your favourite Nightwish song even more than The Poet and the Pendulum when you listen to that. Lovely to see your reaction to this anyway, thank you 🤘

And this is such an honour to be here now. Life is sweeter because of the connection of something we feel.....as one. No other song has ever done this for me. It's not a song tho......its greater than a song. Inspiring...gives me hope for greater tomorrows. Sounds sentimental but I believe we need to dig into the deeper reasons, get into the heart and mind and understand that life is poetry.

What a ride. Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel too. If I could go back in time and see any NW concert of my choice, this would be the one I'd choose. From the first time I watched it, I've loved it. There's just something magical about the whole show. They didn't have 82,000 people like Wacken, but the combination of having the EFMB songs and the home crowd just makes it special. Loved it Kelly and really glad you did too!🤘👍💯

We are all made of the same stuff. Rich, poor, black, white, comunists, capitalists, people from the north and people from the south... that's one of the truths we have to know and accept. Then there's another reality, we are going to die, sooner or later, and nobody has returned from death to tell us if there's something after death. So, why don't we teach our children to live the life they have ?, because that's the only truth, the only thing that we know for sure. Nightwish has been very clear on all this truths, in many of the "Endless forms most beautiful" album. They're telling us some big truth about life. We should care for this planet and all life forms in it, because we are all related, even with the most different thing. We have something in common with the rocks and the oceans, and the spider that we see weaving its web. We are all formed by the same elements. " We are one, we are an universe", is it necessary to add anything else ?

Thank you very much, nice and enjoyable reaction ! This is one of my favorites from Nightwish. This Tampere show in 2015 was also 20 years anniversary show. So they made it little bigger show... BTW, did you notice, when band was firstly greeting audience, then turned away from audience (for photo) and then turned back to audience - they lift hands up and Marco turned his hands so that he was pointing to Tuomas !!! Like this is THE MAN who created this to you ! If you did not saw this, look again that part. Very nice from Marco !

You've just been FLOORED again, Another masterpiece from Nightwish not forgetting Marco backing Floor beautifully & Emppu's guitar work when he plays you think there's 3 guitars there but he plays rhythm & lead & makes it sound so full and the drummer Kai he worked so hard to make his drumming fit in like Jukkas who has stepped down for now because of insomnia I can't get enough of Floor & Nightwish now I've rediscovered them!

I've always liked folk metal and have been searching for other bands in similar genres and this song led me to investigate the other songs from Nightwish. Well, Nightwish is now one of my favorite bands. This is true talent. I'm glad I found your channel. Since most of my friends don't appreciate music such as this the only way I can experience a feeling of being connected with others that DO is to experience the connection this way.
