Reaction to Ange Postecoglou epic response after reporter's brutal 'backhanded compliment' | IAKO

'Aussie' Ange Postecoglou has become accustomed to being underestimated in football circles - and on Friday he left an English journalist red-faced following a scarcely believable 'backhand compliment.'
Speaking ahead of this weekend's away clash versus Burnley and the transfer deadline , the scribe asked the Tottenham manager about 'Angeball' and if he had seen the recent online tribute from pop star Robbie Williams.

Admittedly I wasn't a fan of Suttons punditry at the start, I recall having a jab at him over something he said with reference to Australian football a while back. BUT he was one of the first to stand up to the choir of naysayers laughing the house down when Ange was first appointed at Celtic. His instincts were right and he earned a great deal of respect for that in my eyes. The interview he did with Ange was fantastic and I now find myself aligned with Suttons viewpoints the majority of the time. A great deal of mutual learning has taken place over the past couple years, all thanks to the one special Aussie manager who continues to prevail against all the odds in the face of adversity and the doubters.

Ange was in the football wilderness in Oz for a few years. During that time he did a lot of punditry, both in print and broadcast media. It clearly shows. He's a class act.
@glennmaillard5972
@glennmaillard5972 8 месяцев назад
Mate, he was not in the wilderness - nor outback - he was coaching either Roar or Victory or the Australian team, where winning anything is just as hard as anywhere else. And btw he was not in the wilderness in Japan or Scotland either, just so you know. 😉And, btw, another ‘btw’: Spurs won’t make him a great coach, he already is, but he may make Spurs a great team. All Ange supporters will back him to succeed anywhere so long as he gets the right support front corporate football. Ange manages a team game, that’s fans, players, coaching staff, administrative staff, and the corporporates. He’s a leader as much as anything else. Ultimately, in this day of so much faux leadership, it’s what makes him elite wherever he goes. ✅

@@glennmaillard5972 I think when he says "football wilderness" it is referring to the period after ange was sacked as manager of the Australian youth team where he was unable to get a management job in the A league.

Just a point. The Celtic dressing-room knew Postecoglou was leaving weeks before he did, that was evident in the players' sudden slump in performance and general body language. Plenty of fans who read between the lines when he constantly dodged the questions also knew. It hardly came as a huge surprise in the end.

Ange handles the media beautifully because he's honest and sometimes like in this clip is actually quite endearing, charming and funny. That's because he's had people against him his entire career, from Craig Foster in Australia to Alan Brazil in Scotland and then he wins them over with his football and his trophies.

I been watching Ange for years and I find him a bit cringe. He always had a massive throbbing ego, and a sensitive one at that, and I dont think finally snagging a job in the big time is gonna help that. Just wait until he loses a few, and has to answer actual tough questions, and watch the real Ange cone out.
@SaltBushCity
@SaltBushCity 8 месяцев назад
Certainly haven't seen angry Ange yet. But pressers etc are a strange part of the job. And he does all this well, and you can see how useful it can be. Particularly for a new coach trying to unite a fan base, and more so since he often arrives for a rebuild, with a less than reassuring accent. Anyway I've not heard too many people bag him.
