He did major in music theatre. He sang these type of songs on the cruise ship when HF found him. When they asked him to join them they said there was one condition...he had to bring back his Georgia accent.

It is from the play Les Miserable. He actually sang this song in concerts back in 2014 - 2016. You can find it here on RU-vid and see how much his voice has grown. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

I knew he would be fantastic if he ever decided to release this as a single. And he did not disappoint. He has another version with Tim, Chris and Rob. It was at a concert, just videod on someone's personal device. It's just as impressive. I was glad you did a reaction cause you have a great appreciation for Austin's talent. 🦋🎶🦋🎶🦋

I can't agree that the live recording is anywhere near as good as this. The most commonly put up live performance was from a day when Austin had a cold (dread of singers) and was a little bit 'pitchy'. He was also rather too young at the time. In the last few years his voice has developed enormously and is now mature and technically assured. Don't get me wrong, his voice was always beautiful, but now he can do so much more with it. His first concern in any song is the intention, meaning and emotion, which is why his singing is so riveting. Dave, thanks for your reaction, pointing out some things we would otherwise have missed eg Austin's very gentle diminuendo. Did you hear that the last note was not falsetto but still mixed ? His technical mastery now allows him to fill those top notes with sweetness. Check out Les Mis - it's a very exciting and moving story. The film is a good place to start. Apart from Russell Crowe, the leads are excellent and the director's insistence that the actors sing full voice, rather than miming, makes for great realism. In this song the main character Valjean seeks God's help in saving the young man Marius, at great personal risk.

This is so amazing. I forgot he was a performing artist star and Home Free had to ask him to bring back his accent. He has such incredible breath control and phrasing. His voice is a gift from God. He could do Broadway but he isn't high fallutin enough to fit their needs. Thank you for reacting to this. I never miss your reactions because they are insightful and appreciative. Much love to you and your young family.

Thanks Dave, your reactions are wonderful! I've heard that when Austin was in college and taking his classical training, his teachers wanted him to go into opera. That wasn't where he wanted to go. And so happy his heart ended up keeping him wanting to sing with a group of guys. His dad did gospel when Austin was young with a quartet and so he loved it. So happy he joined Home Free. Changed all of their lives for sure (along with the other great Home Free guys, of course!) Take care.

The mystery to me, as a former singer, is where Austin keeps his lungs! Normally that level of power, exercised every day, encourages the growth of lung and muscle, but apart from the strengthening of his shoulders through yoga, he still has the same slender frame as when he was in his 20s. Sebastien looks decidedly dubious when Austin generously offers their services to random songwriters lol. Do check out Les Miserables, one of the greatest musicals of the last half century. The film (with Hugh Jackman) is a good place to start. It's a very exciting and moving story which I'm sure you would enjoy, and you'll see how this aria, Valjean's prayer for the boy Marius, at great risk to his own life, is a vital part of it.

I have been a soprano and have sung for many years, and what I could never do was hit those very high notes lightly....softly. It was always easier for me to reach those notes if I had some power behind them. I so respect his ability to hit those high notes with power ....and then hit the same ones as lightly as if they were floating on a breeze. He is my very favorite singer today. Bar none..

He does well but I want to see how the acoustics would shift in a theatre. You can sing softly for a microphone and use less air allowing for more drawn out notes and easier vibrato. In a large performance hall you have to fill the house. Still props to him for singing and pulling off one of the most technically challenging songs a tenor could ever sing. If you like him I highly suggest hearing Colm Wilkinson or Alfie Boe sing it as well (Probably in your spare time). They both have their own takes and do a phenomenal job.
@carinalindberg7377
@carinalindberg7377 2 года назад
Oh, come on. "He does well, but..??" There are no buts to be added here. It's pure delight to listen to this. Too bad for you for not enjoying it and instead feel the need to try to bring in negativity or doubt. This was perfection. Having said that, I'm not sure you know who Austin is. He's got a remarkable voice - with a breath- and volume control far beyond most singers, as you just heard. And if you didn't hear it it's not about him, it's about you. Austin's got one of the most powerful, as well as one of the most soft and emotional, voices around. Furthermore, he majored in musical theatre and so actually has trained his voice specifically for what you just described. Would I love to hear it? Of course! But not because I need him to prove anything, but because it would be an experience that would move me. Because that's them kind of singer he is.
@theaclaw
@theaclaw 2 года назад
@@carinalindberg7377 I never said I didn't enjoy his singing, only that I wanted to hear it in a different location. Please don't put words into my mouth. I do not know him nor have I needed to. Being able to pull off the song in the first place is a feat many can't do regardless of background. My comment above still stands.
@carinalindberg7377
@carinalindberg7377 2 года назад
@@theaclawThere were no words put in your mouth, but there were suggestions from you that he pulled it off because it was a mic performance and you questioned if he can do well in a theatre setting, without knowing anything about him, because you don't know anything about. I suppose you know stuff like this, but then again, if you actually did know something you'd already know that he can pull it off in that scenario as well because he shows it right here in the voice, breath and volume control that impresses every single vocal coach I've ever heard commenting on his voice, and there are quite a few. But most importantly, he can pull it off because he knows how to draw the emotions and the heart and soul out of any song he sings and into his voice and straight to the listeners ears, heart and soul, and it takes a remarkable singer for that. He didn't just pull this off, he embodied it, and in a theatre setting that's what's important. Of course it's different with a mic and live. One does not take away from the other. Both are cherished and a singer isn't good only when he can sing in a theatre, although, Austin actually performs live on stage with his acapella band Home Free 150-200 concerts a year, normal years, all over the world. I think he knows how to sing live and in a theatre. Btw, you should check out Home Free, they have after all collaborated with artists like Kenny Rogers, Don McLean, Alabama, the Oak Ridge Boys, Lee Greenwood and many more. They also performed at Diana Ross' 75th birthday party after a personal request from her after she binge watched their videos and feel in love with them. They also won season 4 of the Sing-Off. The singer you are commenting on is, in fact, by many considered one of the greatest voices of our time.
@patriciamcl54
@patriciamcl54 2 года назад
@@theaclaw Austin has spent the last decade singing in all sorts of concert halls and outside stadia, in some cases to thousands of people, to great acclaim, as part of the a capella band Home Free. By now i think you can assume that on top of his training he has a lot of experience in filling a space with sound. Besides, these days musical theatre is fully miked - in fact, most American actors never learn to project, as I realised when training as a singer. As for Alfie Boe, I'm not keen on his version at all. The changes in dynamics are too abrupt for my liking.
@theaclaw
@theaclaw 2 года назад
@@patriciamcl54 Understandable. I will say though even if the show is fully micced, the actors still need to project no matter what due to possible technical failure. Mic batteries die, equipment fails, the voice cannot during a show or else the performance suffers. Also, thank you for approaching this in a more calm and logical manner than Carina above and for not attacking me personally.
