It's quite exhausting how the 49ers as an organization keep dragging out these contract negotiations every single off-season. Pay your talent so they don't hold out. No distraction will occur, and your player will be in football shape and ready to go day 1. It's not that hard to figure out.
49ers don’t get enough flack for how bad they are at contract negotiations. Seemingly all of their top players have negotiations that go well into training camp just for SF to end up paying them anyways
This is why you're not a GM.....Teams cannot just give in to every demand on day 1...That is not how negotiations work...Aiyuk was offered 26 million, which is MORE than generous. AND the team holds his contract rights....At this point I believe the team is doing great by holding the line. Aiyuk is NOT worth 30 million or more for a team that doesn't pass 40 times a game like the Rams... Sure, Aiyuk is good, but you can't sacrifice the whole team for one selfish guy.

For those that weren't around then, rookie contracts before they changed them, the contracts high first round picks got (before every even practicing) were basically like second contracts today. Pre new rookie contracts the Cardinals would never have gotten Kyler Murray because they'd have been locked into Josh Rosen with a 4-5 year cap killing contract- can you imagine 4-5 years of Josh Rosen?! The bears wouldn't have Caleb Williams, they'd still have been locked into a cap killing contract with Justin Fields. It's also funny that Aaron Rodgers draft slide is framed as being "shocking" yet it wasn't, There was only a few teams that could afford him and once he didn't go 1st, then everyone knew a big "slide" to the late teens to early 20s was coming.
To me Aiyuk is like Nico Collins. Similar builds, skill sets, and pretty identical stats last year. Nico got 24 mill a year and that should be about what Aiyuk gets
Hey John, consider this offer, 49ers trade BA to The Saints for Marshon Lattimore. That’s actually a decently fair trade, considering Lattimore is only 28 & has “Top 5 CB” potential, if he stays healthy & is on a pretty “cost controlled deal”(Roughly 16 million per,would be the 49ers responsibility, with 3 years of control & ONLY 14 million is guaranteed), while BA still needs to be paid.
I don’t get your point, they don’t want to pay him, but in order for them to get rid of him, they want a team to overpay for him? If he’s that valuable to them why not pay him? Or trade him for whatever and rid yourself of the distraction? It can’t be both ways
This seems pretty common around the league and the niners are well run so i dont think they see it as much of a distraction. But its not that they dont want to pay him, its that they cant really afford to without making changes elsewhere and because hes under contract they're in a position where they can pretty much do what they want. Why should they feel pressured to over pay or to trade him for less value than you think you could get back? And if teams arent willing to trade what the niners are asking for then they can go to Ayiuk and say see this is what you're worth on the market
A lot of receivers come into the league with names and we remember the ones that pop but what about the countless first round and second round receivers that don’t perform?
Hes definitely worth what hes asking for but the niners dont use his as a number 1 and likely just cant afford to pay him that much and unfortunately for him they dont have to give him up yet and no team willing to pay him will also be willing to trade what the niners will likely ask for
Jags owner Shad Kahn has been very patient with HC / GM firings...Yes making Playoffs is very important...but unless Jags completely fall apart this year...I dont see Doug P or Baalke getting fired...we have more talent now than EVER...barring injuries - if they can't get it done on the field that is more on Coaches and Trevor. Baalke went out and got players.
If Aiyuk is offered 25M by the 49ers , he should take it ... the abundance of WR talent in the draft is becoming like RBs, so their salaries might start going down.
@@daveg2938 this reminds me when RBs like Leveon Bell were trying to get big money, then after that time, no one paid RBs big anymore. I see a downturn in WR salaries because of abundant college WR talent, and Aiyuk might miss his chance.
Agree, Tell Aiyuk to go find his trade partner also tell him that whoever he talks with to have them make a FAIR offer.... There are a lot of veteran players that will be sitting in thei rliving room watching the game on Sunday if they continue to think they are worth millions when teams rather hit the draft for younger and cheaper players....WRs are not worth 30 million a year, I don't care who you are.....A team sacrifices the chance for an SB win if they are overpaying everyone.
Aiyuk has more leverage than he’s getting accredited. We don’t know the status of Pearsall, Deebo is a weapon not a pure WR, if he holds out that’s a significant hit to a limited pass offense that schemes players open. Indy makes sense as a trade partner, QB on rookie deal, innovative HC who got the most from AJ Brown and Devante Smith, Pretty good OL, strong run game, indoors they have the cap space. They’re a fringe playoff team with Aiyuk, SF would find that likely 14th-18th 1st rd pick of value. Bigger question is what’s SF asking price if they’re willing to unload Aiyuk. I wouldn’t trade him but Aiyuk probably thinking if he played in a balanced or pass heavier offense his numbers might be Top 5 WR good.
Man if he had any leverage he wouldn’t be dragging his rookie QB best friend into this mess. He’s trying to generate interest with Washington to somehow create leverage. Maybe it’ll work but I doubt it.

Are you 26 compared to 30? Is that mean like we lose a player or lose two players in the future what does that actually mean? Can they even physically afford 30 million
If the niners sign Mike Tomlinson with a beard to a big contract this year they will be screwed when trying to sign purdy to a contract next year. They can only pay so many top tier position guys at a time.

The 49ers are flawed to the CORE! Why will nobody admit it?! Shanahan believes his system is more important than who’s running it. It’s blown up in his face in BOTH of the biggest games of his career!! There are All-Pro players at EVERY LEVEL on both sides of the ball. Except the most important position! Now the Trey Lance AIRBALL is about to start biting them. Trent Williams is going to retire after this season. Warner, Ward, Aiyuk all want more money. The best players on this team are about to age out of elite play and will still be making elite money. Having wasted critical 1st round picks they don’t have the positions back filled. On top of all of that this coming off season they have to pay Purdy 50M+ and that takes away the advantage they’ve been playing with. While simultaneously putting a concrete ceiling on the team!
The wide receiver contracts are gonna do the same exact thing the running back contracts did, take a nose dive over the next few years. They're not going to get $30+ million per. Not when you can get quality receivers ever year in the draft. Watch
