This is an old Kazakhstan folk song. Dimash presented this song on the I Am Singer show in 2017. He loves when the audience sings it with him on the chorus. The Americans Dears made a video singing this for his birthday. I hope you react to his newest song in Kazakhstan . Durdarez. Amazing. Also SamalTau from the Tokyo Jazz Festival is awesome. Thank you for promoting Dimash. 👑 VOCAL KING

Dimash arranged this folk song himself years ago. During the New York concert in December 2019, he spoke just before performing Daididau about his childhood dream to bring his Kazakh culture and language to the world, and to a large stage in America, specifically with this song. There is a fan cam video of that performance where you can see that he so overcome with emotion that he is in tears at the end. He sang this piece in Singer 2017, and his friend who was there with him said that he was in tears after that performance too. This song has a strong significance for him personally, and the emotion in it is real. In live concerts, he often repeats the chorus several times and has the audience sing it with him. His emotional authenticity and vulnerability with his audience is completely endearing and captivating. I have yet to see another artist who communicates so sincerely and effectively and at such a high level of musicianship at the same time.

I watched a documentary where Dismash talked about this song. He said that it is a well known Kazakhstan poem, that has a sad, true story behind it. When Dimash was 15 years old, his father, and his father's close friend, wrote the music to this poem. Ever since then, Dimash had dreamed of bringing this beloved song to the world stage. Love from Canada.

The song for many years was considered a popular song. However, later on, scientists discovered that the song was written by a Kazakh writer, poet, scientist, and teacher, Magzhan Zhumabayev (1893-1938). Magzhan Zhumabayev was arrested and sent to prison. In prison they told him that his wife, the only love of his life, had abandoned him. It broke her heart and she wrote this poem about her love and the great pain she was in then. It turned out that his wife never left him (he had received false information), they met again when he got out of jail. Unfortunately, his happiness did not last long, he was again arrested and executed in 1938 as an enemy of the state. The author expressed his feelings to his wife, when he thought that they would never be together again.

He is a lot more comfortable in Kazakh. The story is about a historical figure who was imprisoned by the Russians. The Gloria Wu video has a good background story and translation

Thanks for another great reaction to Dimash. Your pronunciation of Daididau from your phonetic spelling is correct. Thank you very much for listening to the song for the correct pronunciation. Many people are unsure how to pronounce the names of some of his music but even after listening to the song they will still mispronounce it incorrectly at the end. As many of his songs this is based on a true story. I also believe the connection we feel when he sings in the Kazakh language is so palpable. Daididau: From Obscure Poem to Worldwide Hit (and unofficial anthem of Kazakhstan) Excerpted from a history written by Elisabeth Khan. A Silenced Poet Magzhan Zhumabayev was a poet who was very much in love with his wife. Her name was Zuleikha Kurmanbaykizi, and his nickname for her was “Daididau.” Distant cousins and teenage sweethearts, they had been married off to other people by their parents, as was customary in their day. Only after they both became widowed at a young age were they able to build a life together. This young poet dearly loved his homeland. At the time of his birth in 1893, Kazakhstan was being ruled by the Russian Czar, following the 19th-century expansion of the Russian empire. The Kazakh people, however, aspired to self-governance. Five years later, in the wake of the 1917 Russian Revolution, we find our poet joining the newly founded Kazakh nationalist party, Alash Orda. Zhumabayev’s patriotic activism got him into trouble with the repressive Stalinist regime. He, and his brothers, were harassed and arrested. Falsely accused of treason, he was imprisoned and sent to Karelia, a distant region straddling the border with Finland. Magzhan’s jailers told him that his wife had given up on him and was living with someone else. Not knowing what to believe, Magzhan wrote a poignant poem in the form of a letter in which he declares, “Oh Daididau, your face is as beautiful as the moon on the fourteenth day” and wonders, “Did you really choose to leave me? We had promised to never part…” Magzhan was eventually executed in 1938 never knowing that his beloved wife was still in love with him and spent all those years fighting for his freedom. Daididau was not a traditional folk song, but the work of a celebrated poet who had once been purposely forgotten.

Hello, a nice reaction, this beautiful song Kazaka, as I understand it, is about a soldier, who is a prisoner of war, and they tell him that his wife had abandoned him . Real History . Dimash sings with infinite passion, when he does it in Kazakh, and with typical instruments. You have to see, "Kiele Meken"

👉 This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak. The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the prototype of all European string instruments. (Turkic means: The Turkic peoples are a collection of ethnic groups from Central, East, North and West Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa who speak Turkic languages.) A legend about Kobyz says that this instrument was created by the great steppe narrator Korkyt-Ata, who lived in the 10th century and that the tool is charged with magical and even mystical properties and sounds like animal voices. In addition, the Kazakh people believed that the spirits of their ancestors spoke to them through this music. The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Simple people, for example, did not dare to touch the shaman's Kobyz. It is said: The balance between the courses of life and death on earth can be maintained by playing the Kobyz. 🌼🇩🇪

The story of the song: When Magzhan Zhumabayev, a philosopher, poet and professor, was accused and convicted for conspiracy, he was more than one year imprisoned before being executed, in which he was falsely informed that his wife had made the decision to abandon him. This was the reason why he wrote one of his most popular poems in Kazakhstan. And it became one of the most beautiful folk songs there. Both instruments are the Dombra (the one resembling a guitar) and the Kobyz, both traditional instruments from Kazakhstan. I specially love his performances of this song both in the Bastau. Great reaction. Greetings from Spain.

Beautiful, emotional reaction, bro! You got the pronunciation right at the end! The cello-like instrument, Kobyz or Qobyz is pronounced "Koe-biz", & the guitar-like instrument, Dombra is how it looks, "Dom-bra". Keep up the great work! 😊

👉 Daididau is a poem written in prison by Maghzhan Zhumabayev, a true story. The poet had just been informed that his wife left him, and this song was his reply. He called his wife Daididau - it could be derived from 'дедім айдай ау' - the moon-like. But it was actually a false information, a way to torture him and others that were arrested for conspiracy. He saw her again but only for a short time. He was executed in 1938. This song is well known and very important for the kazakh people. The traditional coat is called Shapan.
