What a line up the who's who of guitar playing, add Rory Gallagher to that . Thin Lizzy ..... I just found out midge ure played with Lizzy and Huey Lewis and big connection. What a wonderful reaction I like when I see people who actually know what they are talking about . You are both fab ☘️
I never had a chance to see them, sadly. My best friend in High school bought me the Jailbreak album for my 16th birthday Up to that point I had never owned an album of my own. Loved it! It’s still one of my favorite albums of any genre Thanks Chris
Thin Lizzy was very popular in Sweden, Tommy told in an interwiew that his dad introduced Gary Moore to him when he was 9. Guess his dad had some old Thin Lizzy records too...
Just an interesting note. This song is about the Vikings coming to plunder Ireland (known as The Emerald Isle) back around 750AD. So Tommy being from Sweden (Vikings were from Norway, Sweden & Denmark) his forefathers could have been one of them. It's like Phil singing from one side (The Irish) & Tommy singing from the opposing, invading side.
Thin Lizzy is an under appreciated band in my opinion. They were great. I appreciated the detailed explanation of how you got to this song (even though I already knew the story. The two Tommys did a great version as expected, but I’ll take the original of this one. Forgive me TMW.
Nice Cover, although i stay with Kent K. perfect clean yet heavy produced Sound form T and T, the dirty scratchy old Lizzy Sound is more in my Directon. Thy for the *how the He.. you found that Song* Info, i were wondering as seeing the Thumbnail who else ever would hear such old niche nowadays:) Entertaining as always you two. Stay healthy( serious) Alexander
Tommy is a huge fan of Gary Moore right back to his childhood, his red Charvel is a replica of Gary's guitar. Great to hear the two versions back to back. I was a big Lizzy fan, sad when Phil broke the band up. A great reaction video thank you.
No Jeff, Phil formed another band after Lizzy broke up they were called Grand Slam, they did tour for a while but it didn't really take off. I will never understand why he disbanded Thin Lizzy they were such a great band. I saw them live a couple of times and have their albums. It was after that Phil went down hill really, a very sad ending to a talented musician, writer and singer.
@@paulinebrook2630 thanks Pauline! As much as I thought I knew about Phil and Thin Lizzy I had no idea. I’ll have to look and see if I can find any of the music I filled it after Thin Lizzy and listen to it. Thank you again :-)
I think this song featured Gary Moore. Sounds like it to me. I could also see Rory Gallagher pulling this off. Great to see it revitalized. Metallica just done another cover of a Thin Lizzy Song live acoustic last month (Borderline). I assume you already know they covered Whiskey in the Jar (better without the video they put out) doesn't do the song justice. And sticking with Gary Moore he paid tribute to Phil on a fantastic song. Love the concept of comparing originals with covers. Please keep them coming. Here's a couple of Aussie covers of Beatles songs you might be interested in. Both very different takes to the original. "Eleanor Rigby" by the Zoot and "Help" by John Farnham (live).
@@Anothercoverlover62 Always careful out on the bike Jeff, it's my job so my plan is to arrive home safe and sound every day. Rammstein is always a favourite when I'm riding too. I have a good mix of 70s rock and some more modern stuff like nightwish, sabaton, Van Halen the list goes on. Take care Jeff.
I think no one could do this better than Phil Lynott. Okay, Tommy brings his own fingerprint to this and it's nice - but still Thin Lizzy for me any day👋
Loved this Thin Lizzy album. First saw them 1971. Saw Jailbreak tour in 1976 I believe. Cleaner vocals and music from Tommy but still prefer that Phil Lynott vocal and the dirty sound of Lizzy !!
I never got to see them. Either I didn’t have the money or they weren’t close to go see. Then Phil died and won’t get the chance. They are in my top 5 favorite bands!!
Up next former Lizzy keyboardist Darren Wharton's band DARE doing their cover of Emerald is a down right rocker. Darren's homage to Phil, is outstanding.
Thank you so much for doing one of my recomendations😍❤️❤️❤️. I knew that you would like it, you Suesue because you have a Mother crush on Tommy and Wolfman because he likes Thin Lizzie🙂.
