I was 18, listening to the radio minding my own business when all of a sudden, my ears behold an angels voice! “Now that’s not Whitney!”, eagerly waiting for the DJ to announce the name of this ear candy. Rushing to the local Sound Warehouse picking up her first CD and our journey begins…she’s saved me from many emotions!!!
She actually wrote Love Takes Time after the album was finished and was gonna put it on her second, but when they heard the rough cut they rushed the production to finish it to put it on debut. It was so rushed the first couple round of pressings of the album don’t even have it listed but it’s on the album itself, but it ended up being her second number one!
This album is ICONICC but what’s even MORE iconic is that the songs she’s performed live from this album, she’s literally performed BETTER than the studio version, this is the case for “vision of love”, “someday”, “love takes time”, and “vanishing”.
@@cameronalexander1111 idk if I’d those were say better than the studio version tho, I thought abt “I don’t wanna cry” but didn’t put it cuz the studio version itself is insane vocally. As for “all in ur mind”, we can’t say she did the whole song better live just cuz of a crazy acapella moment since she only did a part of the song😭. Also ik she did the full song live in her music box tour performances for example but again, idk if I’d say the whole performances were better live of that song, I feel like it’s deluded to say that when the studio versions upper belts were far superior😭. Ntm on that tho cuz she was sick throughout a large part of her MBT. Either way she did songs like “vanishing” during the MBT and those FOR SURE were better than the studio.
@@BaddieRiahI’ll give you all in your mind since I’m basing this on her msg 93 performance of it and that date was spectacular. But I’ll die on the hill that her daydream performances of I don’t wanna cry far exceed the studio. I can listen to the studio but I’ll cleanse my ears with her live renditions anyday. Anyday. Specifically for her tone, falsetto, transitions, better melisma. I can go on lol
@@cameronalexander1111 yes I arguably preferred the live daydream version better but OBJECTIVELY speaking girl, I’m not too sure it surpassed to studio. Yes the tone is prettier, but tone is SUBJECTIVE girl. Her belts were very supported and even resonated, and her falsetto and melismas were top tier, but vocally to surpass the studio version? Where she sustains an F5? And hits multiple F#5s/G5s?😭 and where her belts were all powerful and her head voice was great.
One last fun fact abt this album. Every single single went #1 lol. There were 4 singles, “Vision of love”, “Love takes time”, “I don’t wanna Cry”, and “Someday”, they ALL went #1!!! And to make it even better her next single from her next album “Emotions”, in fact the lead single, ALSO went #1 making her first 5 singles #1 hits! This was also the most successful debut album of the year and she became the most successful new artist and won awards for it, currently it’s sold over 20 MILLION copies!! And she was only 20 while ALL this was happening…
Great reaction. Yes, all her albums (which she writes 99%) are generally juggernauts of hits! And her remixes and off-album cuts (see Rarities) are also amazing. She is a walking hit-machine. Her songwriting skills are equal to her god status vocals. Rarest of combinations.
Lol funny u mention her EASE and transitions into diff registers of her voice because you’ll hear WAYY more of that in her later albums!!❤ one song that is KNOWN for its insane transitions, riffs, breath control, and vocal agility and stamina overall is her song “Forever” from her Daydream album
Prisoner is my favorite from the entire album, I love all the structure and changes that Mariah put into the song, the final phrase saying a very expressive "CYA" is wonderful hahahah
Keep in mind that She released this when she was 20y.o. but recorded this album while she was 18/19 y.o. and had some of these songs already written before she wasn't even signed by Sony/Columbia.
This is iconic because she kept bringing it like this and even better again and again. It´s an incredible career and above all... with a true impact and innovative touch that had never been seen before. And constant evolution. Crazy career.
I was 15 when this album came out. One of the first albums I bought and cherished. Not knowing how old you are but it’s crazy to think that your generation has not heard her older music. I guess I’m in denial of my age lol😂 doesn’t seem that long ago to me. I enjoyed your video and seeing your reactions and taking me back to when I first heard them. Love your personality. Keep the videos coming! Merry Christmas
All in your mind is such a grower. I have never heard a song with that construction. Sometimes people think Mariah is odd and I think she is a free spirits and just thinks outside the box. Get used to gospel, Mariah has basically added a gospel song in each of her albums, like real Christian songs written by her. She is a strong believer in Jesus. RnB was always kind of present in her music but hip-hop enters the game mildly in Daydream and fully in Butterfly.
Of all my favorite artists, this is my favorite Debut, kinda by a lot too (I'd dare say), it's mutually for the vocals, the lyrics, the range of sound & production, it's 1 hell of a "HELLO WORLD, this is me & all i have to give!".
I was just on a 12 hour trip and listened to the discography from the start. It’s such an amazing evolution that already starts with an INCOMPARABLE debut!! I can’t wait to watch the next reactions!!
Brace yourself, gurllll! After this discography, you will confidently put her ahead of the other two members of the Vocal Trinity (Whitney, Celine, Mariah)...no shade, just fact. They just can't do what Mariah could do. Watch "Vanishing" Live SNL Rehearsal... yes, make sure it's the rehearsal version!
Idk what album i am most excited for you to hear, buttttt i'm definitely looking forward to seeing your face react to her IRON LUNGS when she sustains the "lead the way" last runs...
I remember getting out of a bad situationship and hearing Someday for the first time. Like that song lifted me up from the slumps 😂 Felt important and strong.
Listen Ive been listening to her since I was a baby, so I totally understand when you say you need time to process her music, tho its fun to watch reactions like this I wouldnt wanna be in your possition cause her 90s albums are such masterpieces that you need to obsessed with them in their time, so as amazing it is to remember listening to her for the first time and discovering her, I pitty you that you just dont get to have that obsessing time where you can get to really fall in love with each song and I can tell you it will happen eventually even with the songs you may find iffy, all her catalogue from the 90s every single album is a masterpiece and every single song in them is unskippable, so all I can say to you is... enjoy! but you about to overdoze on music dopamine cause whats coming? is insane, so welcome to the lamily lol.
i loved react and loved the fact that you pay attention to the chords progression and some of the riffs and runs she did, this is all the result of her genius, she creates all the melodies in her songs and actively participates in the production
so excited for your mariah discography journey! arguably, her debut album is one of the best ones in pop diva music history. yes, she was backed by tommy motola and sony, but you can't deny the immense and god-given talent that she has in singing, songwriting, and producing. honestly a legend in the making (in this context). and at 20 years old!!!! here are my top 5s (although i love the album and its songs): 1. vision of love 2. love takes time 3. someday 4. vanishing 5. i don't wanna cry special mention: prisoner!!! and although this may seem a tad premature, but welcome to the lambily!!!! 💁🏻♂️✨💗😌
@@TreMcLeod_lol trust me no it’s not😭💀. It IS one of HER BEST. BUT most lambs consider her best album to be “Butterfly” and it’s only really rivaled by “Daydream”, “The Emancipation of Mimi”, and “Charmbracelet”. Anyways I hope u get to ALLLL of them!!
Loved the reaction!! Just finished watching. I also see Prisioner as a track about multiple types of love! Alsoo definitely take your time to listen to her albums, theres absolutely no need to rush. This way you can fully immerse yourself into the era and the music and understand her career and musical/lyrical/melodic progression as an artist!!
Ok so this is my last comment lol. I just want u to get a GRASP of the impact this album but more importantly her debut song “Vision of love” alone had. It was THEE song that made Beyoncé want to sing, shes said it in several interviews. It brought entire NEW generations of singers and vocalist: who tried to sing like her or were at least inspired by her like Xtina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Adele, Ava Max, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Brandy, Missy Elliot, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Fifth Harmony, etc. it also coined a new style of singing called “the melismatic singing style” and the song was called “the Magna Carta of melismas” (melismas just means prowess of riffs, runs, and vocal agility), and one of the names given to her was “The Queen of Vocal Melismas” because of how much she utilized them but in a way that didn’t seem forced, like many other singers now do. It happened to subtle and naturally for her when singing, like you’d RLLY have to b listening carefully to catch every note she can squeeze in a single phrase. And like u mentioned the amount of times she could seemlessly transition between registers instantly. That’s why Vocalists like Xtina and Beyoncé and Ariana Grande use this kind of singing style with impressive and sometimes excessive vocal agility and acrobatics, because of Mariah.
What an honest reaction to a splendid album. I'm wondering what your impression of Mariah was before you found out how gifted she is & how magical her music can be. History is so packed with artistic treasures that can't wait for you to discover. This is one of them.❤🎉😊
I remember the first time I heard ' Vision of Love' debut on the radio. Those were the days when you can call the radio station and request songs or ask who the artist was and the radio stations were bombarded with calls asking who the hell is this new singer and what is her name. Mariah Carey became a star instantly
I started in 95 with daydream and it was nonstop back to back albums and it was annoying cause i wasn’t ready for a new album because i was still hooked and obsessed with the last album even a year and a half later
Vision of Love was a star-maker. I still recall exactly when and where I was when I first heard this debut track. And I literally stopped in my tracks to listen. When it was done, I was like, wait. Just. One. Minute. Who the hell was that? Thus my decades-long admiration and appreciation of Mariah Carey began.
Love ur interpretation on Prisoner. I hope she listened to ur comment, bc apparently its one of the song that she dislike and it create riots among the Prisoner fan (me included as i think) and hopefully it will change her perception (and interpretation) of Prisoner.
I respect so much you give your honest opinion. She is a genius.Period. If you liked the agility in Vanishing, you need to see the rehearsal of the song for SNL. There is an additional whistle there that will blow your mind. Thanks!
You might be right about the formula thing with "There's Got to Be a Way." It can't be a coincidence that this came out right after Rhythm Nation and Phil Collins Another Day in Paradise. There were also a number of other artists jumping on the political-esque bandwagon back in the late 80s and early 90s.
This is an amazing debut the second half of the album is the star of the show especially alone in Love is my fav!! When you get to me i am Mariah…. The elusive chanteuse don’t forget to listen to the art of letting go which was the original album title!!!!!
Hi Tré. I was 12 when this album came out. I fell in love with Mariah's voice and vibe and have been a "lamb" ever since. I really appreciated seeing this album through your eyes because I've been listening to it for so long that it's embedded in me. More than anything, I was waiting for you to get to "Vanishing" because that's my favorite song off this album! Your reaction was so exactly like mine when I first heard this song. Thank you so much for this journey of nostalgia and my favorite vocalist of all time. I've seen your reaction the Emotions album, and I'll send another comment there. Just know, you'll be getting many comments on the rest of the videos. Thanks again, Carlos.
Just you wait! My favorite Mariah album, Music Box (#3), will blow your mind! 🤯 Looking forward to seeing your reaction of it. Cheers from San Diego, CA!
Wait till u get to her sophomore album “emotions”. It’s even better. After that album people were so shocked and in disbelief by her vocals she ended up having to do that MTV live recording to prove she could sing like that live. They thought she was just a studio rat.
AMAZING reaction… made me discover you and am going through your Dimash journey.Cannot wait for every reaction of the MC discography. One idea if I may, after the second album “EMOTIONS”, please react to the real 3rd album which is LIVE MTV UNPLUGGED album which was made to basically proof she could cut it LIVE as the critics were doubting her. That LIVE album also contains another MC number 1 Billboard single.. BUT the idea is, instead of reaction to the audio, please react to the concert video itself :😊 thank youuuuuuuuuuuu and keep up the great job ❤
Hello. Loved this entire video. I live for your energy and how genuinely you spoke your heart to every song. That's a magna carta of great music. Mariah is really amazing. And you were just so nice to recognize it! Can't wait for Emotions! Love and peace from Brazil! 🇧🇷
I wish I don't wanna cry was the last song. That would complete the following ending, as the wind, everything fades away, looking in, close my eyes, etc...
Fun fact: Vision of Love has two meanings, yea 1 is about love in a more literal sense but the other one is actually hed manifesting her career. If you remember in her book she said God gave her a vision of what her life would be when she was crying in her grandmothers arms when she was young. This is exactly that. This is Mariah manifesting her career and look at the icon she is now. So in the Vision of 'Love'. The 'love' is her music, her career and her life ahead. The life that she sees as Sent From Above (from God). But they didn't to pigeonhole her as a gospel/Christian singer right from the first single so Vision of Love is mostly just known as the RnB/pop masterpiece it is
“Prayed through the niiiiights” 😍 You’re so right! And I remember the part you’re talking about, crying in her grandmother’s arms while her family stormed around her. The best songs have multiple meanings, and she did a fantastic job of creating music that can be seen through an RnB lens or a gospel lens and have a meaningful message either way 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
gurl i’ve NEVER downloaded patreon and i haven’t even watched the video yet but i just KNOW im gonna love your MC journey and i don’t wanna miss a thing 👏🏻🫶🏻
Great reaction! I’m so excited to follow your Mariah discography journey! She has so many hidden gems! Make sure to pay close attention to her lyrics in particular because she has some deep verses, especially when you to get Butterfly.
Great reaction. I have so many suggestions, but after seeing your reaction to the song vanishing, watch and react to the SNL rehearsal of that song. Also, if you're doing the full discography, don't forget about , the remixes, the special and anniversary editions, soundtracks, and one-offs for special events.
I grew up in Westchester County, NY where she was born and raised. As a GENX-er I remember her having "Camp Mariah" in the early 90s. She used to be a great person BEFORE the divorce with Tommy Matolla
The debut is my favorite Mariah album because it’s so diverse in style, the eighties freestyle new Jack swing style up tempo numbers and Mariah‘s voice in prime! ❤
17:44 funny pieces? You're crazy man hahahah, look at that sequence of harmonic whistles she released, that was magical and magnificent, you really didn't know how to interpret that part 👎🏼😢
That’s only the album. You haven’t delved into the remixes of these tracks. Although a lot of them have become rare tracks. Messge me if you’re interested. She isn’t the Remix Queen for nothing.
