Fun fact: At least one of the Yakuza games recieved a sort of commendation for the accuracy of the games themselves. Obviously not the over the top stuff but the inner workings of the system

Fun fact, the Yakuza officially enjoy the Yakuza games. They are allowed to legally operate in Japan, as they have code that prevents many accidents from happening that involve civilians. They don’t use guns often, as they are heavily regulated and it’s not a large black market there. If they kill or injure civilians, they often turn themselves in. And yes, zaboomafoo was such an OG show, I watched it when I was like, 3-5. Wild

Yeah, I’d nominate Kiryu and Majima for the video game Round Table of Black Air Force Activity. Also, Kiryu’s canonical favorite side activity is racing toy cars. Yes, really.

In Yakuza 0, there are in-game collectible cards. Each card has 3 forms. A, B, and C. Each set is represented by a woman in varying states of undress. A is normally fairly decent, and C is generally lingerie. Each of these cards has the name of the girl, printed on it. Heres the fun bit. If you search those names, you find the porn those girls were in. Yakuza 0 made pornstars ... collectible.

I’ve been gradually playing through the series over the last couple years and it’s easily my favorite game series. And despite the over the top stuff the story never misses.

The Yakuza Series is completely underestimated and neglected in Germany, too. I discovered the "Kiwami" (Remakes") of Yakuza 1 & 2 a few years ago and I was stunned by the epic presentation. Some say it's a kind of "Asian GTA", but that doesn't fit exactly. Yakuza is so much more, by gameplay options and by its many stories besides the main story. Once you got used to the style and the way of story telling, it's absolutely fascinating. And tbh: There is no game charakter I could recall (especially as the "hero" ) who is more human, kind, sensitive and not a 'toxic over-male' like Kiryu Kazuma. But I recommend beginning with Yakuza 1 (then up to at least part 5 or the final part 6 with Kiryu), because that was the chronological order of the games and their content. Yakuza 0 is a prequel, plays in the late 80ies and tells the preliminary story of Kiryu and Gojo. (It's like Star Wars: "Beginning with Episode IV or I?") :) One should know, that the PC titles change in technical quality due to different versions they were ported from. Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 6 (the last part of Kiriyu Kazuma) are very good (PS4 ports) and even the remakes "Kiwami" of Yakuza 1 & 2 are top (The original part 1 & 2 have been Playstation 2 titles, so they had to be remade). The parts 3-5 (PS3 originally) are slightly older with another engine, but it's okay. I recommed a fix (you find it easily in the web) to restore the original music score for the games. The music wasn't licensed for the international market and was exchanged to some free instrumental music that is not bad chosen, but you will miss many songs and some with vocals from the japanese original - btw: When you play any game of the series, play with japanese audio and english subtitles. Some of the games are offered with english synchronisation, but you want to listen to the japanese language. It immerses you much more into the yakuza world.

Started with 0 in 2020, currently playing Like a Dragon right now, one of my personal favorite video game franchises and one of two reasons why Sega employees are still getting paychecks. They go on sale often enough, go get them you will not regret it.

Honestly been a fan and playing the series since Yakuza 2 and really all in all its a good series silliness and all its hard not to get invested in the story when the whole thing is so easy to get into from the characters both main and side to the environment like they pulled out all the stops to make this series so good and easy to get lost in, and really you wont be disappointed getting into it

Kiryu and Majima definitely deserve spots on the video game Round Table of BAFA. Kiryu especially. Pretty much every single main villain of these games deserves a spot, and Kiryu has beaten ALL OF THEM. Just as an example: Man has been shot, in a cutscene, 6+ times to the CHEST... AND HE FUCKING SURVIVED!!

Since you brought it up, I should note that the series underwent a pretty serious change starting with the seventh mainline entry, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. While Yakuza 0 - 6 are all beat em ups, LAD is a turn-based RPG in the vein of Dragon Quest or old school Final Fantasy. Also, to make sure things are extra confusing, the series name has been changed to Like a Dragon (a literal translation of the series' Japanese title), meaning the main games in the series go like this: Yakuza 0 > Yakuza 1 > Yakuza 2 > Yakuza 3 > Yakuza 4 > Yakuza 5 > Yakuza 6 > Yakuza: Like a Dragon > Like a Dragon 8 Confused? Interesting that you mentioned it is like GTA, as beside the sand box aspect it kinda isn't. The creator of Yakuza specifically make clear he did not implement driving to avoid being like GTA. Much like the "no killing" rule, this is to stop the player from running down civilians and cause unwarranted destructions. The creator believed that going the GTA route would desensitized the player to the world and ruin the immersion. For example Kiryu not killing people not because he is afraid to, but because he have principles. Therefore he would not do anything that intentionally bring harm to bystanders.

Yakuza is one of my fav franchises... my first play of YKZ0 I spent 140 hrs... is really fkn good

Iirc, the Kratt brothers havd theirs own cartoon series called The Wild Kratts. Basically they are like power rangers that can borrow the powers and abilities of animals to stop evil people from exploiting them. I saw my brother watching it one day and had whiplash when I realized who I was hearing the voices of.

The Yakuza games are a trip of emotions, and even is a long game like most Japanese RPG's is worth at least a play

Hey, if you decide to play Yakuza 0 for youtube, I'd be all for that.

The cabaret club mini game and storyline is probably the best side content in Yakuza and quite fun (and easy). People love it haha So he's plain wrong on that one or somehow struggled with it. Also the beast style is incredibly powerful (all styles are good when leveled up) - so incorrect on that too. Otherwise it's a pretty great review.

No joke Yakuza 0 is a really good beat em up if you like video games its a must play.

The only thing i have to say to people that never played yakuza is... youre missing out. Its not even about getting the *whole* series to make it worth it, yakuza 0 in itself is worth playing at least once then you can see if the mess following these games are for you Even people who arent gamers, like my mom who got hooked on watching my playthrough and then asked me "when's the next one?"
