I love when they show the other groups’ faces... they are like “oh shit, we just got our ass kicked”. You are correct. You can see in Kirstie’s eyes when the zoom in on her face that she hasn’t been feeling her best.

This is where the other groups realized they were all playing for second place. Everyone praises Kevin for the 2 drops. Yes he did great. But what made them so powerful was the other 4 also hitting the reentries so solidly and in perfect unison.

Kevin’s gunshot effect at 4:10 is one of my favorite Kevin moments of the series. And Avi…sheeesh. The near constant staccato bass notes he’s doing throughout the song is crazy hard. This is my #2 of the series after #12. I don’t remember which episode it starts, but they start doing 2 performances a night plus an opening group number. The show was hard work and took its toll on everyone performing. Scott lost his voice the week of #12 (Dog Days Are Over)-you’ll have to wait to find out how it turns out because I’m not spoiling it. 😏

I’ve said this before, but everytime I hear this I feel like this was the performance that sealed the deal for them…they did nothing but get better from here on out! 10 and 12 (my personal fav) were just icing on the cake. Thanks Salvo!!!

I totally agree, this performance took them to a new level. They are no longer rushing, they are in the pocket and really using dynamics, silences, etc. There's one dud coming up, but once we hit #10 it's all over.

Avi And Kevin became hard and fast friends. They shared an apartment in L.A. and when the group was on the road, they shared the same hotel room. Always working on their bass and rhythm together. Kevin was already very musically talented, especially instrumentally, but had never worked on his vocals. Avi had trained Classically/Operatically and so he worked with Kevin on his voice and Kevin worked with Avi on producing some great rhythm. Kevin stopped by Avi's cabin this past December so they could visit for a few. Avi even had Kevin play his cello on Avi's solo song "Fields and Pier". It was stunning as Kevin's cello *with some string manipulation) matched Avi's deep bass on that section.

One of my top 3 from their Sing-Off performances. The use of a silence/pause before the beat drop (perfectly timed, I might add...) has become a PTX staple. Avi & Kevin's rhythm & bass backing was definitely the driving force in this one. The "Easy Rider" motorcycle intro by them is one of my favorite moments from the show. From this point on, they do two songs per night, so Kirstie being sick all week was a big challenge for them to overcome. The fact that in the second song she sings the lead shows her ability to dig deep and push through it despite not feeling well (it's also probably a reason they went with such simple staging and minimal choreography in that one, to take it a little easier on her). They've all had to deal with similar situations during their almost constant touring schedule. You can see a lot of that backstory in their "PTXperience" vlogs from their various tours.

The clothes kind of look like something they might wear, if they got to choose for themselves. It wasn’t very heavy metal but it was entertaining and Avi and Kevin were really good. The pose the trio does at the beginning was very Charlie’s Angels.

this is definitely one of their best and when they really started to pull ahead of the competition. definitely the Kevin and Avi show on this performance haha and poor Kirstie; she was so sick but she did great nonetheless. this performance and performance 8 were both on the same night and the show actually had them go first here and go last in the next performance so she had time to rest her voice. she's a true professional because "the show must go on", as they say. ❤️

I love their version of Born To Be Wild, I really wished they'd included it in one of their albums. They're just so in synch especially those pauses & Kevin's insane "gunshot". Avi's bass line is just... wild. I could definitely stand to hear them do more rock music. Could you imagine them covering something like Guns N Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine, or Linkin Park's "In The End", there's so many genres I'd love to see them dip their toe in, like pop-punk = Green Day, maybe "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" or "When September Ends". Scott definitely has a voice that could lend itself to the genre, when he leans into the grit. Have you been recommended before, Scott performing live with Vincint, they cover Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing", in 2017. It's a slightly more relaxed live, kinda fun and Scott sings the hell out of it.

👋Avi and Kevin, AMAZING at giving the song a solid Rock foundation BUT GUESS WHAT?? SCOTT GAVE A POWERFUL ROCK VOCAL!! I'm sure you didn't hear it tho (you never do😵) Props to Kirstie! I'm a "scott girl" and I adore his vocals in this. He kills it. But you can hardly blame people for focusing on Avi and Kevin in this. They are what is exceptional in this case in an a cappella group trying to pull off rock and metal. A powerful lead singer is impressive, and I love Scotts vocals as I said. But there are many good lead singers in that show... Avi and Kevin on the other hand is doing groundbreaking and innovative work at a very high and professional level and filling out so much room that is almost unheard of in a group like that. So they earned being the spotlighted part, even though all of them are ofc performing at a very high level and are all very needed for the song.

Hello Salvo G, Glad that you are going through the Sing Off. Last night I watched Scott and Mitch on their Superfruit Channel reacting to their Sing Off Performances. You should put that on your list to react to that video. It is great - they critique their voices, arrangements, choreography and wardrobe - 4 years after the Sing Off! Also be sure to react to their performance after the win and then when they appear as guest artistes at the next season Sing Off (where Home Free won).. Yes, this was an amazing performance. One of my favorites. And there were several nights that each group did two songs. Episodes 3 & 4 was Radio Hits and 60's Classics. There were still 2 separate 'flights' of the original 16 groups that performed on different nights at this point and each did 2 songs. Episodes 5, 6, & 7 went back to everyone on one show singing 1 song as they combined both flights of the original 16 groups into that 1 show. Episodes 8, 9, 10, and 11 were 2 songs each again, but on the same night with 8 being Rock and Country. 9 was R&B current hits and R&B Classics, and 10 was Master Mix of 2 songs and Judges' Choice. After this show is when we all got to call in who we thought should win. The last show, 11, was each of the 3 finalists singing with one of the judges, except Sean Stockman was touring and so Nick Lachey sings with Pentatonix, but the songs weren't critiqued. And each group got to pick a charity and sang a song to highlight that charity. Hope this helps. Now, it may be hard to pick one of the other groups in each season and still find their songs. At least on RU-vid. I don't know if NBC has a streaming service where they have the performances archived or not. Not sure how you would get them on RU-vid even if they do. So your best bet to do another group would be Season 4 when Home Free won. I know there is a RU-vid channel that has all the performances on one play list. But I don't think that one breaks each song out separately. The group in Season 3 that I though should have placed 3rd (they were 5th and didn't make the final show. But their renditions of 'You Really Got Me Going' by the Kinks and 'Every Little Step' by Bobby Brown(link to the right) were masterful. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V3_21mIc9y0.html You can see Pentatonix in the background of some of the video going nuts.

(I mentioned #7) My bet is that you have heard other Steppenwolf songs (Magic Carpet Ride comes to mind off the top of my head) & you’d probably like them going by the bands you’ve listened to, & liked, so far! I loved their rendition & feel like they really hit their strengths with this one, even with Kirstie not being 100%! The best is yet to come..although this is in my top 3 for the Sing Off performances.

Pentatonix won season 3 of The Sing-Off in 2011. Ratings were lower compared to the first two seasons, in large part because seasons 1 and 2 aired entirely in December with little competition on other networks while the expanded season 3 ran from September to the end of November. The show didn't air in 2012 and many thought it was cancelled. Surprisingly, it was back on NBC's schedule for 2013 but with fewer groups (10 instead of the 16 in season 3) and set to air entirely in December again. Perhaps the network saw how much success Pentatonix was able to achieve in 2012 (despite being dropped by Epic Records) and wanted to cash in on that. Home Free won season 4 (2013) - you can do reactions to their entire season like you're doing with Pentatonix. VoicePlay was another group in this season as was AcoUstiKats (University of Kentucky a cappella group - Kirstin's ex Jeremy was a member). Season 4 introduced the "Ultimate Sing-Off Challenge" - two groups sing the same song, alternating verses at first then singing the final part together. The judges then choose who to eliminate. In a twist, both VoicePlay and AcoUstiKats were eliminated in a double knockout in episode 5 (of 7) even though they did an Ultimate Sing-Off Challenge together. This performance might be a good one to react to, even though neither won that season. Another a cappella singer you should check out is Peter Hollens. The difference here is he usually sings all the parts himself. He has also done numerous collaborations with others including his own wife Evynne Hollens, as well as Avi Kaplan (former bass of PTX), Scott Hoying (PTX), Tim Foust (Home Free), Home Free, Lindsey Stirling, and many more. Peter was a member of the University of Oregon a cappella group On The Rocks that competed on season 2 of The Sing-Off (2010) and finished in 5th place. He covers a wide range of music but is most noted for his covers of music from video games, Disney, musicals and epic movies like Lord of the Rings. Just last month, Peter did an amazing cover of Pentatonix' "Run To You", which I don't think you've reacted to yet.

Yes, this one is a fan favorite! I love it!! I think it is their second level up on the show. Having watched the original series it was disappointing when they started singing twice per show. Before then I just turned it off after the PTX one, then I had to watch the choirs sing to see the second performance. Home free was in season 4. I probably wont watch it, but you might pick up some "Homefries," and there is some overlap in fans. Thanks for this great reaction!! 😁😁😎

I didn't see season 1 of the sing off. Season 2 winner was Committed - they released one pop album after the show, then continued with church music. Season 3 -- we know, and appreciate. The show set i'd recommend as a follow up is season 4, watching Home Free. They came in as an established group, performing around 200 shows per year, but admitted they felt stagnant. The sing off show design ? forced them to do a variety of styles, and really seemed to bring more energy to the band. They also gained a nationwide and international group of fans. Definitely worth watching season 4 ... HF was the best group from the beginning.

I watched all the seasons on TV when they aired and season 4 was so boring. No competition and I’m sorry but although HF sounded good, their performances were boring and slow. Nothing innovative or new like with PTX….they were so unexpected and exciting. Season 5 wasn’t really a season but a I shot tv special. Committed from Season 2 were good but more traditional as well as Nota from season 1… still had beatboxing but none of the background intrumental stuff.

A wishy washy version of a classic rock song. It sounds like elevator music. Unfortunately the people who watch these "talent" shows usually have no Idea what the original song sounds like. There is a grit and a message that is completely lost in this version. Yes, they have pretty voices but this song does not call for pretty. I grew up with the original and this version is missing the song's soul.
@PtxXtp
@PtxXtp 2 года назад
Only so much you can do when not using instruments, thats what originally made the song sound rock. Not the voices. They were doing the genre they were given and their rhythm section section did a fantastic job trying to replicate that sound. They don’t sing rock typically probably because it’s so hard to replicate that feel with voices.
