Reaction to Richard & Linda Thompson - A Heart Needs A Home 

this was the song that my wife and I had our first dance at our wedding - 40 years this fall. Still love this song very much!

I’m so glad that when Richard converted to Islam, he didn’t stop playing for long (only 3 years) like Cat Stevens did. He has kept on making great music.

A favorite of mine. I have seen Richard multiple times. Great.

The Calvary Cross is also stunning live. (Probably the same performance.) Another British folk/rock group from the 60s/70s is Pentangle. Male/Female vocals and remarkable musicianship. For something more wild, try The Jefferson Airplane- House at Pooneil Corners! A masterpiece.

Richard T is one of the greatest songwriters and guitarists of the last 50+ years, and his partnership with then wife Linda resulted in some truly wonderful music. Her exquisite voice was the perfect counter balance to his often dark and acerbic lyrics (though this song is more melancholic than dark). Other songs worth listening to include Dimming of the Day and Walking on a Wire, which are polar opposites in theme. They divorced and split up in 1983, but still perform solo. RT has an enormous catalogue of solo albums that are really worth diving into. His album Rumor and Sigh is a masterpiece. Lynda stopped performing for a number of years after the divorce, but has since recorded a few delightful solo albums. The two have also done an occasional collaboration in recent years, including with their children.

Glorious performance, and for me preferable over the album version (if only because it is stripped down and equally well sung but you can actually see the performance). Thompson is a genius as far as I'm concerned, a brilliant and unique songwriter and guitarist and fine interpreter of old and other peoples work. Linda Thompson was a really fine vocalist in a time when there were so many wonderful female singers, many of whom are totally unknown to most people today.

That was very nice, amazing actually. . Richard was in the original Fairport Convention. Their album Liege and Leif features Sandy Denny on mostly solo vocals. If you like English folk rock from 1969, that’s a good album. Maybe try their song “Crazy Man Michael”. Also the band Pentangle from that time and place. Other more specific suggestions are “She Has Funny Cars” and “Today” by Jefferson Airplane and “WhiteBird” by Its a Beautiful Day, both are male / female vocals and are sixties San Francisco folk rock. Another one is “Kites are Fun” by the Free Design, a bit of sixties folk pop but the harmonies are so rich and satisfying , perfection . Great reaction. Great song. Here’s the mono mix of “Today” its so clear, less reverb than the stereo album. I think you’ll like all those songs.
