Love this song, resonate so much with me after losing my dad when I was 18. I listen to this song often, helps to understand that what I feel sometimes is common
Thanks for the review Shawn! Glad you enjoyed it... Always been a song I like to go back and listen to every now and then. It can be easy to dismiss this type of genre but I think Mike has he ability to get good lyrics on pen and paper, with a bit of English wit mixed in, while also bringing you along the story with him. They are the sort of group which are not massive in terms of general popularity but are well respected in the UK music industry as a whole and also inspiration for a lot of artists in the genre. As I mentioned in my own notes, this is very much what I would call an 'entry level', 'single friendly' Streets song... most of his back catalogue (and particulary the first 2 albums which are more critically acclaimed) is more of a hard garage and grime influenced sound but would really recommend the folks of RTCC to check them out if it floats their boat! :)
Yes shawn!! How did I miss u reacting to one of my favourite groups! The first 2 streets albums are classics & Mike skinner is a bit of a cult hero for a lot of people aged between about 15-40. He’s got some great songs & the lyrics always hit with me, probs cos he’s a white kid from just outside the city so he talks the exact same way me and my mates do lol. Skinner is one of the coolest people going!!
Great song with great imagery! Classic Mike Skinner! Hadn't heard this one but have always liked the early stuff of theirs, they got a lot of airplay on alternative radio Triple J in Australia.
Shawn, This song has a kind of Gospel sound and feel with the hand clapping. The song has a slow and steady tempo and rhythm. The lyrics tell a story. It's not a real Gospel song, but it sounds like the writer was searching for some answers. I love the fact that you always say it like it is in your comments. You are right, there are churches that are bringing worldly issues into the scene like politics. Churches should focus only on the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. You gave very accurate insight into what the song is about. I agree with everything you said.
Yes this has that typical Streets sound. I would of recognised his voice straightaway even though I only know 2 of their other songs .Dry your eyes and Fit and you know it. Like the fact that the artist addressed the fact that a lot of people turn to God or question life when someone has passed away and look for answers. Yes I agree about the church thing .Even here in the U .K you are not taken seriously in your faith if you do not go to church but a lot of it is for show unfortunately in some cases and more of a duty or obligation .So to question how strong someone's faith is based on if they attend church is not fair .Its about helping others in whatever way you can and showing up in the world as a representative for God .Doing good if you can but as the word says we are saved by God's grace not by works alone. Good song choice 👌
