This is VERDY CHANNEL. Today I react to the ultimate 80s quiz. I really had fun doing the quiz !! I will try to make better reaction in the future. Thanks for watching Like, comment and subscribe VERDY channel.
You did great! The joy you show hearing these short clips is a testament to how great the music of the 70s and 80s really was. Two great decades of music for every music genre.
You did well. I graduated from school in 1985 and I would have missed several of those songs! They didn't give you very much to listen to, and the 2 seconds that they played didn't contain the popular parts of the songs.
Verdy discovered your channel because you are one of the few people who reacted to Pink Floyd properly by listening to the albums in their entirety and your enthusiasm for their sound was obvious. As for this quiz you did quite well for someone your age, most of the ones that you had no clue were one hit wonders that even myself who is at least your parents age had no clue. It's funny someone with a kpop moniker I usually would fly right past who knew?
I am so impressed. I grew up in the eighties and you did nearly as well as I did. You knew some I didn't! I think you would like YES. Especially their album Fragile. You probably wouldn't get many views but the few that you got would be from very appreciative fans. Pink Floyd, Zeppelin and Yes are kind of the most talented, progressive bands of the 70's. Looking forward to a few years from now when you are reacting to Tool. Love your reactions.... I liked, commented and subscribed. :)
Don't feel bad about not knowing a lot of these songs. I lived through the 80's and having grown up in Northern Ontario I can tell you that at least 7 or 8 songs on this list NEVER had much if any Canadian airplay. I'm guessing this was compiled on songs in and around maybe Chicago. I just made an 80's playlist with hundreds of songs and I would bet I barely got half of these name and artist. You did great! Cheers!
Got most right, amazing you know so many. Makes me feel good there are young people who dig the old school music. You should check Australian early 1980s music.
You should really have a look in Kate Bush songs. Cloudbusting, Running up that Hill, The Man with the Child in his \eyes. (Just some suggestions, there are tons of great song of her.)
The 80s - what a wonderful decade for pop music! The songs are many and unforgettable. There are so many that we can hardly remember all the singers and bands and song titles.
I did ok on most but there were some songs I knew the artist but not the title and others I missed all together but actually knew and I was like CRAP!! Overall great jaunt through 80’s pop history!
You did well. I'm an 80s kid who had MTV and the radio on 24/7, and there were a handful I *never* heard before. I think they used some that may have been popular internationally but were rarely or never played in the U.S. Other than those I named every title and artist correctly.
That was pretty fun. You did pretty well. There were some tough ones in there. I think there should have been a 'movie soundtrack bonus' too though, cause there were quite a few that were in pretty famous/well know movies.
You did well. I reckon most people your age would maybe struggle. Roland Gift the singer from The Fine Young Cannibals lived local to me. I used to see him before he was famous and he didn't talk much. When he was famous he used to visit a nightclub and my brother would talk with him. I also used to see him in the Social Club on Sunday Dinnertime and no one bothered him You should get to hear the album Purple Rain by Prince. It's full of Rock, Funk and Pop and is a classic. His other albums 1999 and Sign of the Times are classic too. Kate Bush had her first hit Wuthering Heights which I think went to no. 1 in the UK as a Teenager. Her album The Hounds of Love is great too. One side is a number of songs comprising a full suite.
You are really smart, know a lot of songs and r multi-lingual (polyglot). U r 1 of a few young reviewers who really appreciate music history (Just Jammin", Jay from L.A. & others). Respect.
Better? Dude you knew a ton of those. Way more than I would expect. I lived through the 80’s and I didn’t know a good many of those. Good job. Shows what a music fan you are.
Been trying to catch up on your videos after discovering your channel. I lived through the 70s and 80s, young lady you did outstanding on this quiz. It is so cool to see such a cool young lady enjoy this era of music.
Ok so it's pretty clear that your parents raised you right musically. I get the feeling that you might be a young aspiring artist, if so you've got a good broad musical foundation that will serve you well. Fun Fact: Kurt Cobain credits The Melvins snd the Pixies for bring major musical influences on him, he grew up listening to the Beatles and credits them for his underlying pop sensabilities. So where you earned the like was at Get Down On It. Where I almost took it back was Purple Rain, lol. You REALLy should check out that song as well as Time after Time by Cindy Lauper. Both songs are master works that I truly believe you will enjoy. Keep the good content coming. P.S. As a child of the 80's myself, this was tough, a few blew me outta the water, so you can pat yourself on the back for a job well done
_"Never heard of Kate Bush"_ - My jaw hit the floor! I guess with all the Stranger Things stuff you know her now. However, the song shouldn't have been on the list as it was a 70's song.
That was fun. I got around 70% give or take. (I don’t know if I should be proud or ashamed of myself for getting Brother Louie and the artist though 😅)
If the clips had been a little long it would have helped. You did amazingly well for your age. I was a teen in the 1980's (well 12 in 1982, 19 in 1989). I didn't get more than you did. I listened to the radio and played records that I had (still have) all the time. Did cringe a little for you at the Bon Jovi failure, but everybody gets a brain fart once in a while. Well done you lady!
I was in my teens/20s during the 1980s. Maybe 5 or 6 of these songs I honestly never heard before. However, for most I at least got the song name even if I couldn't recall the artist. The opposite was true for songs by Bon Jovi and Guns 'n' Roses. I recognized their sound but was never a fan of their music, so I couldn't name the songs. "Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran was a weird one to be included. Wikipedia tells me it was a bigger hit in the U.K. (#2) than in the U.S. (#16). They had much more popular songs here in the U.S. during the 1980s. Makes me wonder if the compiler of this quiz is from the UK.
I grew up in the 80's and heard many of these on the radio every day. Some I've never heard before (must be a European band that didn't chart in the US), and others you were only going to hear if you bought the album or cassette tape.
This was fun! I realized this was published a year ago, and I see you have dived into some of Peter Gabriel's solo work after that. But you should definitely check out Kate Bush. Her career actually collides with Gabriel's on her contribution on the duet "Don't give up". And def. check out Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists of all time. "Telegraph Road", full 14 minutes version (country meets prog, I would say), and "Brothers in arms" (LIVE at Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute is an emotional performance).
They weren't in this video, but I'd really like you to do an album reaction of "The Lexicon of Love" by ABC. That album is a classic and I think you'd really enjoy it.
THAT WAS FUN! Great idea. I did the quiz along with you, and scored 54/60. But the 80's were the prime of my youth and I absolutely LOVED music of that decade. That a young lady like yourself knew as many as you did was impressive! If I did a quiz from the last 20 years I would fail miserably. Haven't liked the direction music has gone at all... but maybe that's just getting older? One comment, you said the only song you know of Prince is 'Kiss' so I highly recommend you do a deeper dive into his stuff. 'When Doves Cry' 'Little Red Corvette' 'Purple Rain' & 'Let's Go Crazy' are all vastly better than 'Kiss' imo. That's all!
You did VERY well for someone of your generation! Very impressive. I grew up in the 80s, but I was more into hair metal than pop, so I only got 50/60. I had never even heard of 4 or 5 of them. So, Great Job!
I took the quiz with you, but for my own sake, I'm going to keep my score a secret. Let's say you did better than me in the POP and DISCO categories. In my defense, I would say that there were a lot of so-called (One Hit Wonder) among this list. I am convinced that I would do better with a quiz of the 70s, since it is, in my opinion, the best decade in music.
Greetings from Finland. I noticed that you did a reaction video of the Nightwish song "Ghost Love Score". I like Nightwish and I decided to check out your channel. This was the first video I watched. You did very well! I'm impressed. I've been really into music since the early 1980s and I like many of these songs. There were a lot of great bands and artists on the video. I just hope the song samples would've been in a much better quality. Someone already mentioned that the song by Kate Bush was actually from 1978. Her first three albums are my favorites. She has made a lot of great songs and some of them are quite unique. Duran Duran was my first favorite band in 1982. I started listening to them when I was just a kid. I recommend the Rio album and their first self-titled album as well. That song (Save a Prayer) was from the Rio album. I also really like "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper although I've never really listened to her music. Kim Wilde is also great. The song "Kids From America" was from her first album. It's a good album and it sounds fantastic. The band "Yes" is one of my favorites but I especially like their 1970s music. Some of that music is quite experimental and unique. They are known as a progressive rock band but they made more accessible and catchy songs in the 1980s. The Yes album "90125", which has "Owner of a Lonely Heart" is still a really great album. Check it out sometime. You might like it. I almost feel bad not to write about all the other ones I really like on that video (Queen, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, The Human League etc.) but maybe I've written enough already. I was just impressed that you knew a lot of my favorites. Take care and I hope you're enjoying your weekend.
This was very nice. I like your videos in general but i especially liked this one !! Alphaville - Forever Young is one of my favorite songs in this quiz. If you haven’t listened to their other songs, they have another big hit “Big in Japan” that is very nice, but my favorite Alphaville song is probably “Sounds Like A Melody”. By the way, because you are french canadian, I remembered a film’noir type French movie I watched called Alphaville (from 1965). Perhaps the title of the movie inspired that group’s name.
You did very good, don't be too hard on yourself. You didn't grew up in the 80's, thats normal. Still you have a very good knawlage. Im a 1000% 80's kid, and i still wondered about a couple... Got about 98% of it though.... 😉 Also great to see Modern Talking and other European artists on this quizz, and not just American and British ones
Good quiz, I think I got more artists than you, but you got far more titles than I did. I am in it more for the music than titles or lyrics. My son is Autistic and while not really interested in Band names, he always tells me the year of a song whenever he hears some music. Two of my favourites in there too.....Starship- We Built This City.....and Van Halen-Jump. It might be worth a look at a couple of MV's too (or maybe even reactions).....one being Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, one of the most jaw dropping songs of that era.....and Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel....with a very unusual(and Brilliant!) video along with a fantastic song :)
So far, I'm terribly impressed; these were songs that were in the charts when I was in secondary school. The equivalent for me would be guessing hit songs from the 1940s, and if it ain't Glenn Miller, I won't know it :D
So Verdy I think I beat you by about 2 points. Barely. It's Ontario vs Quebec. However, it's English songs vs - well no French songs so you win. Until the next challenge! Bonne chance mon ami
If you do nothing else on your channel, you owe it to yourself to explore Kate Bush. He influenced almost all of the female stars that followed. He was the first to integrate dances in her performance. Besides the fact she is an amazing vocalist and songwriter.
C'est pas possible...; You couldn't recognize Peter Gabriel Genesis first vocalist who crafted the trailblazer album So, introducing to the world first music programming computer the iconic Fairlight? Listen to the track Big Time and get ready to dance.
I assume this would be easier for me, because I was a teen in the eighties, and I listened these songs a lot, still there were quiet a few I didn't know, and some I haven't heard in 30 years! So I think you did pretty well! ps. "La Isla Bonita" is maybe the only Madonna song I like, hehe, it has a good vibe. Oh, and I missed "The Final Countdown" form Europe, and Black's "Wonderful Life", these were such a big hits too! (you need to check out Sade, she is really great)
I lived through the 80s and I got more right than you, but then you got quite a few I didn't, eg. cool and the gang, or you got them quicker than me. But you never heard of Kate Bush? Sade? Depeche Mode? You have something to explore there.
Rozhodně to nebyla ani polovina, ale nesmutněte! Já nemám rád vyteplence, takže jsem krom rockerů poznal jen Kim Wild a Kate Bush! 😆 Což je méně než Vy! 🤩 It certainly wasn't even half, but don't be sad! I don't like fiction, so apart from the rockers, I've only met Kim Wild and Kate Bush! 😆 Which is less than you! 🤩
That was really hard. You did great for someone who wasn't born until over a decade later. Some of those, like You and Me by Spargo had absolutely zero chart activity outside Europe. I got 51/59, not including the one you had to block, but I was in my 20s in the 1980s.
wow i think you did amazing considering that you probably only have heard 5 % of those songs on the radio. im guessing your parents are in there late 40's or early 50's
Can I suggest that you listen to the "Purple Rain" and also "Around the World in a Day" albums by Prince. His (and The Revolution) best work in my opinion :)
@@carstereorepair6574 I know it wasn't her song list. You were the one that said "awful song choice". Yes, Debbie Gibson and Tiffany had #1 hits, but their songs aren't any better than any of the ones already included. If fact, worse than many of them.
Honestly can't believe you know so much at your age. I lived through it and you best me. Except Dire Straits and Don't You forget about me. Ahggg. Girl! Can't even say my disappointment! A hero to zero moment.
