The irony is this: even after 2014, vast majority of Finns (myself included) still were against joining NATO and abandoning decades of neutrality since WW2. But the 2022 "SMO" changed that drastically. We do have our internal disputes, but once Mr Putin showed an active interest to interfere... Let's just say, vast majority of Finland's population found common ground right quick. NATO should really thank Mr Putin for this particular accomplishment. Ultimately it only took him a few measly days to achieve what less capable NATO recruiters had tried to achieve for decades; Finland abandoned neutrality and decided to join NATO, damn near unanimously. No mean feat, that!

Now that also Finland and Sweden have joined Nato, the co-operation between the airforces of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark is so close that they basically operate as one joint airforce. Yes, Finland is a peaceful country and it's called the Finnish DEFENCE forces for a reason. The only reason they exist is to defend against an attack from Russia and is optimized for that purpose.

Exactly. I doubt many of us from Finland would like to attack and take lands and stuff from other countries, even from Russia. I know I wouldn't. But defend, there's an inner hellfire ignited when it comes to defending our country. That is something even Putin knows, I think.

A realistic number of reservists could be about half of that. The fact that you have been in the army 20-30 years ago does not guarantee that you are capable of fighting. Illnesses, injuries, mental health problems, or substance abuse problems. Life can throw a lot

Your comment is a statement of your lack of knowledge in this issue, which is not so wrong or bad, since that goes allmost everybody or other normal people also. But it is proof of your poor strategic thinking, that has to go deeper than "we COULD still stop their attack with artillery etc etc". If u were highprofile politican in Finland, and read about those gallups and surveys about what majority of Finns wanted that time ( to join nato or not), what would u have done? I am aware that perhaps u dont judge made decisions, u just said that it was overall a mistake. In latter case I strongly disagree. Nobody knows what going to happen in future. Government and politicians need to protect country, and that was done! Any other solution would not been justified. In reality, future will tell that was it good or bad for us in reality.

ottawa agreement already bans all AP mines from use. Being in NATO actually just strenghtens our defence. We may be able to hold russia for few years without help but its good to have backup.
