On this date Captain. Rosado of Truck company 1 was acting Chief for one week. Throughout the duration of that one week period Brentwood FD was brought to a residential Structure fire on Kirk road. An incident commander on scene for five minutes leaving the front door open to make the fire worse, and a fire department scared of fire. Shocked that front porch could hold the weight of 6 FF standing there watching it burn. Thank god there was a hero in the backyard to contain a propane tank in the backyard not involved in the fire at all. At least the IC was comfortable leaning on the fence, not having a clue what he's doing and letting it burn to the ground. Keep sporting those t-shirts and getting those FF discounts at Dunkin boys! #heros

I hate being that “Monday morning quarterback” but if this is a buff page.. just showing the slow response & lack of work being done by personnel on scene .. I would not even upload it. It only brings a bad name to the department. I’m sure that they are a good department with a bunch of good guys. Yet this feels like I’m watching a snuff video for the vollies.

I do not armchair often, but this…was an absolute disgrace of Firefighting. If I was the homeowner, I would want answers as to why, 1. Why was the Heavy Rescue 1st due and not an engine company. 2. Absolutely no reason for 8 FF’s on the front step entryway. I guess these guys needed to cook their helmets. 3. At one point there were 17 FF’s standing in the front yard, watching the house burn. 4. 2.5 should have been the first line put into service, not a 1.34.

first of all if you don't live in Suffolk County NY then don't comment on things you don't know about this situation. It's all Volunteer in Suffolk County. This particular Fire Department is the busiest Volunteer Fire Department in the Country. Since when is it procedure for Engine Company to be first due? Did it ever occur to you that on the Heavy Rescue were fire fighters from a substation and an engine crewing up at HQ? What's wrong with 8 Firefighters on the front step entry? Those 17 firefighters were mutual aid departments and they're O/S awaiting their assignments from Command. How do you know definitively it was 1-3/4" and not a 2" or 2.5"?

The fireman, whatever his purpose is, was there leaving the door open for better draft to the flame. Did he have any instruction as to who, or whether, they were they were to get water on the visible fire at some point. Two men with the 1.75" line should have been sufficient. Could the gable end been hit at the same time? Fortunately, the home was a total loss on arrival, thus ensuring finality of loss. Someone brought a ladder for no apparent purpose, why most seemed to be there for. Maybe the cop could have provided crowd control?

First engine should’ve hit it with the deck gun using tank water. Those rescue guys should’ve established a water supply rather than walking around with pike poles - the hydrant was two houses down from the fire bldg. Rescue should have a hydrant bag to make sure the closest hydrant was ready when the first engine arrived.
@georgemessler3345
@georgemessler3345 2 месяца назад
I admit I use the MASTER BLASTER as often as possible I am noit sure if I would have used it here. I think I would have stretched a 2.5 attack line and hit it with that and backed it up with a 1.75 but then again I was not on scene. I also have to admit that the Deck Gun is one of the most under utilized pieces of fire attack equiptment and I think so me has to do with being afraid of the guns power. Ideally you could not for better circumstances with a plug 2 houses away and steady water supply but.... AND I agree that the rescue should have had the hydrant ready for use but their function is different in every department and district. Some areas have the rescue first due while others will have a truck without a booster tank. I was on a department where our main attack unit was a hose tender with 275 gallon booster tank in an area with no hydrants.
