DVD summary:
In volume 3 of the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern, we pick up where we left off in volume 1 with freight and passenger operations from September to November of 1991.
We’ll begin on the turn job at Tamaqua and head to St Nick Yard in Mahanoy City. From there we’ll visit various locations along the mainline including a ramble to Schuylkill Haven and steam freights with the 2102.
We’ll finish this volume riding the Reading turn job from North Reading to Cressona and return
As seen previously, trackage in some places was still at 10 miles per hour, but continually improving.
Digitized from the videotapes of the Ed Heck and Joe Bednar Collection
Narrated with commentary by Mike Bednar
Color and sound; approximately 75 minutes runtime

Another great video! It was cool to see 2102 all dirty compared to this year.

Now that 2102 has returned to steam last year, 2102 should reunite with 2100 for a doubleheader and side with 2124 at Steamtown, and plus 5513 is planning on getting restored by the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum so she might return to operation again in the future

Damn a bunch of the old color film from the 60s and 70s looks better than video.

Absolutely. Standard VHS video has a resolution of up to 300 vertical lines, when we transfer film, resolution can be 4 times that of VHS video. But we have to work with the medium of which the footage was shot on. In the 80s and early 90s, VHS was THE format being used as it was affordable, easy to use and the most popular at the time. Film was being spun off by Kodak and the public as it was expensive, required to be processed and had no real-time feedback to the photographer. There were still some that were using film, but they were the few

@@JPMediaRR yeah Mike Eagleson still shoots silent super 8. I wouldn't want silent but he likes it. I didn't like silent in the 80s. For me the sound is more important and why I did stereo recordings and now digital. But it's just amazing how great we all thought video was back then and then you see it now lol!

@@steamgent4592 Unfortunately, super 8mm sound film is no longer made, so you can only shoot silent film. I don't know if you can still find companies to "sound-stripe" film or not, but even so, it would need to be done AFTER processing the film. With that, you would have needed to record the sound on another device and "sync" it to the footage anyway, so there's really no point in striping the film if it will only be digitized anyway. If you are a film purist and desire to have the soundtrack on the film for viewing, it won't be cheap or easy to accomplish. This is why the average person uses newer technology, it's just easier and cheaper. And in most cases, the quality is superior to a digital transfer.
