Now why would you (they, Marvel Comics) even bother to put a statement like "may not be sold except through authorized dealers"on a comic anyway??!! You bought it, it's yours, they got paid, you can do what you want with it. Do they really think it's going to effect anyone's decision to buy or sell this comic?? If little junior comic book collector walks into ABC Comics w a stack of mint Spiderman (insert comic # here) comics technically the store owner can't buy them bc junior isn't an authorized dealer. And if he did then he is in violation of of what's stated in the fine print hence thousands of comic book dealers have thereby comitted comic-archy if they bought them!!! Plus the thousands of these for sale on eBay and the like. And worst part of it all if they hadn't put that in there I wouldn't have had to craft this long winded comment.
+FrF Hi again, for some reason your comment regarding Grant Morrison is not showing up here, who knows how google filters these things, but I wanted to reply to you since I'm also a huge fan of Morrison's work, especially the older stuff. My first intro to his work was Doom Patrol, loved him ever since. I'll add his name to my next reading set list and see what I can dig up. Thanks, it's a great suggestion :)
+chycho Thank you, chycho! I'm looking forward to some Animal Man and/or Doom Patrol! I also like especially some parts of The Invisibles (e.g. the "Arcadia" arc from vol. 1) and, more recently Batman 663 ("Clown At Midnight"). The latter would probably be problematic as a reading for copyright reasons because it's a prose story with illustrations!
+FrF Fun! Just thinking about what stories to read from Morrison puts a smile on my face ... so much goodness there. Just in case you're interested, here is a write up I did about one of my favorite runs and characters in comics, thanks Morrison :) "The Beauty and Brilliance of Grant Morrison’s 'Doom Patrol', Introducing Mr. Nobody: a Savior, a Monster, an Act of Sacrilege, Dada" chycho.blogspot.ca/2013/10/the-beauty-and-brilliance-of-grant.html
LOVE this video! I'm a massive fan of Carnage and The Amazing Spiderman from #298 to about #400 (the Mcfarlane run in particular) this is my favourite video that you've done :) thank you again Chycho!
+Comic Book ASMR You're very welcome, brother. As you can tell, I love carnage as well and couldn't get enough, so much so that this ended up being my longest comic book reading video yet. Fun :)
Such a great character for Marvel both then and now. I also loved the comparison you drew between Carnage/Joker and couldn't agree more. Length was not an issue for me AT ALL! I am at the 1 hour mark and will finish it tonight :) Thanks again!
Excellent video ! I am quite amazed to discover a comic-related video that's calm and not about ranting, just appreciating the colorful fantasies. To be honest , I am a HUGE Carnage fan, he's not only my 4th favorite Spidey antagonist but he's also the perfect Anti-thesis to Spider-man (especially Michelinie's...). Here's what I think about David Michelinie's tenure and how he made me interested in Parker's world devilkais.deviantart.com/art/Web-head-s-Wedding-545027973
OMG! That's one of my comic book movie dreams. Would love to see Carnage in an R-rated psychological gore-fest of a movie. Wish Disney didn't own Marvel though, the odds of this kind of movie being made by them is probably zero. They just wouldn't be able to sell toys to kids with that one, not that the parents would buy anyway.
@@benb4271 no he's an post credit scene riot is the other symbiote and carnage will be in 2 also the writer says he sees no point in an r rating and you don't need blood and guts to portray carnage which is bullshit he must be never read anything with carnage even venom can be bloody but carnage is guaranteed in need of blood
Man I love the symbiotes, Venom was always my favourite Marvel character in general so I'm definitely glad they didn't kill him off; something about a character that was almost entirely neutral after a while while still being a major nemesis to Spidey was a huge appeal to me. He was almost like the Vegata to Goku if you're familiar with DBZ at all. Carnage was never a fav of mine given his psychopath nature but I don't think we would have seen the expansion of the symbiotes if it weren't for Carnage. (e.g. Toxin). Another great one here Chycho, thanks!
+Dave Restaino Thanks, brother, and I agree. Marvel universe would not be the same without the symbiotes. Quick question, have you been reading the new Carnage series? If so, what do you think?
+chycho I haven't actually, haven't gotten around to the comics themselves in a while unfortunately. What do you think of them? I caught that part where you mentioned you'd like to see Carnage become more adult-oriented, was it in the same vein as that? That was a huge reason why I loved Venom is that they came off as more grim-dark, then when I found out that Todd McFarlane helped design him (huge Spawn fan also), it all sorta made sense, lol
+Dave Restaino I remember watching an interview with McFarlane back in the early 90's in a local Ontario TV show, it was called Prisoners of Gravity - there is actually a youtube channel dedicated to archiving the show - and in that interview he mentioned that Spawn was designed to be a mix of Spider-man/Venom and Batman... Todd was really young then and from what I remember it was a pretty good interview. As for the new Carnage series, it's okay so far. The covers are absolutely amazing, some of my favorite in years, and the story is definitely more mature, not R rated though - not yet anyway. It's good enough for me to have it on my pull list....and if you don't mind spoilers...... ..... Toxin is back :)
Nice! Always good to see the favourites return. I didn't know that about Spawn either, but now that you mention it I can definitely see the influences of all three. I'm hoping to see Spawn return o the limelight in some form soon, it's been too long. I think the last Spawn-related thing I saw was the film from the 90's, and of course the old cartoon as well.
+Dave Restaino Hell YA! Spawn and Maxx were two of the best cartoons ever made. So good, I actually liked the Spawn animation way more than the comic book... and for sure, I would love to see a Spawn movie, that would be pure awesome.
Most definitely will do. I actually just started another reading set, 2 books read already and 30 more books to read in the next four to five months. Should be fun :)
Why the fuck they dont do an omnibus of the periode between the McFarlane Omnibus and Maximum Carnage ?! This is sooo frustrating I really want to read all that 1990 comics periode
Agreed, agreed, they should collect all of Carnage's first few appearances into magnificent omnibus. I'd buy it, as long as the price was right that is ;)
Carnage most definitely was modeled after the joker in many ways but since then and soon after, carnage came Into his own. Where joker is all about games and attention and needing batman to basically stay the way he is, carnage is now just a blood thirsty killer, doesn't care about games, or an audience or Spider-Man, he just wants blood and death.
Former habitant of Kitchener?! Very cool to hear! I'm living in Toronto but visit family and friends in Kitchener every "now and then." Great read through and history lesson!
+Zachary Harbridge haha Awesome! Small world indeed! Kitchener-Waterloo, it's a beautiful corner of world, until the freezing rains hit, then it's a WTF and OMG back to back :)
+Core Advertising Hello Sudbury, I've actually been there. Went down the mine when I was there in the early 90's. It use to be the deepest mine in the world I think. Very cool down there but I wouldn't want to be there for too long. Once you think about it it gets scary :)
Hi I just found amazing Spider-Man annual 1, amazing Spider-Man 15, 8, 19, 17, 16, 15,14, 13, 12, 11, 10 and 9 but they are all in German and really high grade all over 9.0 condition and only under £4 each are they worth getting??
you have revived my love for comics sir. Venom is my all time favorite character with Carnage in close second. If you can't buy the first comic in a story line will you buy and read a comic that falls in the middle of the story line?
For sure. It only takes an issue or two to get caught up with most stories anyway, unless they are mega cross-over events from Marvel or DC, in which case I usually stay away from them from the get go. By the way, welcome back to the comic realm, as you know, it's an insane world. ...by the way, good to see another Armenian in the comic world ;)
HAHA! I had no idea you were Armenian. Yea likewise Chycho. There's a few of us out there. My cousin owned the series you are reading in this video which is how I began reading it.
ha... cool! Weird coincidence, this is one of the series I gave to my cousins to read to peak their interest in comic books. I get the feeling that maybe Armenians that read comics tend to gravitate towards Carnage and Venom... may say a lot about us... lol :)
Great Video. I am really enjoying all your Vids and allways excited about new Uploads. As mentioned under another Video, I fell in love with Valiant Comics, so I would love to see a reading of Legends of the Geomancer. Have a nice Weekend Bro ;)
+Johannes Körsgen For sure I plan on reading Legends of the Geomancer at some point, I mentioned this in the Rai #0 reading and meant it :) I was able to get my hands on issues #2 to #4 so I'm still missing #1, once I get that I'll probably do the reading for #1 to #4 in the next reading set, has to be done.
+Alex Qerreti Thanks for the offer, Alex. For sure, if it's not too much trouble, and would definitely be fun to see... no obligation though, from you nor from me, okay... if it resonates with me, matches the theme of my channel (math/comics/beards/ASMR/etc), for sure I'll put it up :)
I'm more of a fan of these earlier comic book readings, you speak slowly and calmly and it's awesome. I find in the newer comic book readings you speak a little too fast and doesn't give me the same effect as these ones. Still a huge fan tho lol
Awesome! Thank you for the feedback, very much appreciate it. It's exactly what I need to help me improve and not deviate too much from my goals. I think one reason this might be the case is because in my new space I've been using natural sunlight instead of setting up a whole bunch of lights around me. The sunlight tends to energize me a little more than nice chill reading lights. I'm guessing once we start into the Fall with less natural light available I'll be setting up my other lights, that might chill me down again and we'll go back to more of the earlier style. We see, maybe I'll also try and cut back on the sugar intake ;) Thanks again, very much appreciate it.
Definitely plan on it. There are some amazing games I've played over the years that I would love to create videos for. I do have a small gaming collection as well going back to the early 80's :)
Hey Chycho! Niki here! Popping up like whack-a-mole in different videos! :) Actually I just happen to listen to this read and I remembered there was something (kind of unrelated to this video) that I wanted your opinion on, if you have a moment... Grimms Fairy Tales, comic series published by Zenescope, know of it? Caught a seller in my region, with assorted issues with a decent price-tag. Cover-wise they look awesome! I think I might buy some issues anyway but I wondered if you had any thoughts on the series or maybe you already got a video on the subject that I've missed..... Let me know if you get a chance! Much love!
Hey Niki, for sure I know of their books. I only have 4 or 5 in my collection, mainly because, like you, I liked the covers and wanted to get a set. I don't know too much about them, other than that the earlier issues fetch a premium price mainly because of the artist involved - I can't remember the name of the artist though. If you can get those on the cheap then I would go for it.
chycho Cool, thanks for the response! Maybe, we'll see if I'll go for a set, and if I do I could let you know! Got my Twitch set up now and hopefully I'll catch you live soon! Later brother!
chycho Man I don't think the seller had the original, early, issues though.. Looks like some kind of collected work. "The Library", and " Dream Eater Saga".. Hmm
chycho Yeah that's a downer. But I mean this whole thing with comics, for me, is quite "inherently" challenging in a way. At least at first glance. Because even if I were to find someone to buy from it's almost always from a seller in North America. For a chap such as myself, living in Sweden, the unabailability of untranslated works that don't run me dry with overseas shipping costs is truly testing my faith. I only know of one shop/website that imports a handful of US-Canadian comic books to the country, untranslated of course, with reasonable prices although it's pretty limited... and Valiant? Forget about it...... I'm almost considering just buying translated stuff just because I love flipping through the pages of a well-drawn comic book.....and that feels sad. :(
Thanks for asking. I'm a listener more so than a watcher. It's the ASMR experience that I look for and you have the perfect voice and cadence. I do read a lot and I love historical novels, biographies, sci-fi, fantasy, biographies... on and on. Southern gothic too, but not to sleep, lol!
Cool, there are a lot of choices there. I'll see what I can do for the next reading set, maybe I'll do a one off read if I come across the right comic. That said, as far as sci-fi is concerned, I have read some sci-fi stories from the Golden Age of comics, 1940's and 1950's, that might interest you. They are reads from EC comics, what most comic book aficionados consider to be the greatest comic book publisher of all time. Here are the links if you haven't seen them yet: Mystic #6, Basil Wolverton's 'The Eye of Doom!', 1952 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6rkZzsrVQsU.html Weird Science-Fantasy Annual #1, EC, 1952 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oLU1EHXIIoQ.html Weird Science-Fantasy Annual #2, EC, 1953 (with a Ray Bradbury story) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ra7pfTlGVfU.html Reading Comics: Weird Science-Fantasy #28, EC, 1955 ("I, Robot" by Eando Binder) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yq5WhK0Yk-U.html Hope they kick start some beautiful dreams for you :)
Cool, thank you for that. For these older readings I should go back and add the time stamps to the description of the videos now that youtube has discontinued the use of annotations.
You're very welcome :) ...as for comics, what type of books do you like to read? Or show do you like to watch? Or story you like to hear? Maybe I can find a comic that might interest you.
I gotta say, that donald trump joke aged really badly, sure it's not portraying him in a positive light, but I feel trump even back in the 90's and especially now is way too dangerous of a person to joke about in that regard. Edit: It's also ironic that this issue brings up cults, because Trumps fanbase is a toxic cult.
