Bouncing back some of my own takes: Favorites -time travel in any form, fashion, iteration *Timeless by alexandra_emmerson *between certifiable and bliss by heyjude19 *Aurelian by bittyblueeyes -memory loss-feels like just a different twist in time travel *the best of me by mrsren *wait and hope by mightbewriting *jamais vu by cosmiccthulu-have not read, on my list? -Multiple universes-same comment, it’s like a different kind of time travel-in this case I love to see the different iterations of characters (e.g. two or multiple dracos from different worlds) and how they react and respond to each other and themselves. It’s kind of like fanfiction making cheeky fun of itself (like unruly characters hopping in and out of stories) *paradox by olivieblake *a stake of holly through his heart by lovesbitca8 (there’s some really good ones in drarry) -Mauraders-even if does not include dramione, reading these gives a richness/depth-once you’ve read mauraders works, then when you read non-mauraders works, just the textures, smells, flavors, are more vibrant/verdant. You know how you feel after you recover from the worst flu ever and just feeling normal feels like the most exilerating, precious gift and you wonder how you never appreciated how delicious just feeling normal (lack of anguish/auge) can be and you vow to be more present/mindful/grateful going forward? That’s how reading mauraders fics affects/enriches later readings. *all the young dudes by mskingbean89 *(sorry not dramione) debt of time by shayalonnie -fics where Draco has withdrawn into or been banished into or has in some other way assimilated or is assimilating into the muggle world-I just really enjoy seeing Draco immersed in and making his way in the muggle world. I like to see where he lives, what job/occupation he does and/or if he goes to university, and especially get to meet the muggle friends that adopt him as found family *dad says by galaplacidia (sorry not dramione but it’s the one that sticks in my head) -any fics that feature Draco/hermione’s relationship with her parents-either restoring their memories or clandestinely befriending them if their memories cannot be restored or her parents “adopting” Draco taking him under their wing and showing him a parental love he’s not had before, etc.-I wish there were more fics that focused/featured this *tea with Mrs. Granger [& sequels] by guardian_kysra * there’s one where if I remember Draco is married to Hermione, they have several kids, and he is her bodyguard, and they move to Australia and live next door to her parents, can’t remember the name? -Favorite side characters-Lupin, Luna, Andromeda, Teddy. I also like fics where one of the side characters is a Seer in some form/fashion. Often that will be Blaise, Theo, or Luna -to be honest, I adore draco & Luna or Draco/luna pairing-sometimes as fierce friends/adopted family, sometimes as romantic (romantic pairing is rare, I wish there was more), usually emerging from Draco sneaking help/comfort to Luna in the dungeons. Often Luna will be the first one to connect with Draco, give him a chance, advocate for/defend him, and open eyes of the others of the possibility of opening a door to him-she will often be the one very early on making prescient remarks to Hermione (or Harry in a drarry) that make the person cock their head to the side and say hmm. I like what they bring out in each other -kid fics (didn’t list here/I’ve listed before, but a few are listed in this post under different categories)-I think this would be a great new video topic -Unexpected/odd/quirky-soul bonds, creature fics, even triads-often this is a matter of suspending judgment in that it is occurring in a different universe where the laws/ethics/circumstances/norms are different than ours *stars and scars by aneiria *two moons by mscrap54 *fourteen thousand galleons by frumpologist *Amid the chaos by shayalonnie (abandoned but beloved/so worth multiple re-reads) Icks -taboo or forbidden relationships if they don’t take measures to mitigate e.g. boss/employee or supervisor/underling or partners (auror), teacher/student/mentee, guardian/advocate, healer/patient, etc. some handle it properly such as in measure of a man, very early on before anything has happened Draco has scoured the contract to make sure there is nothing in it forbidding a relationship. If that doesn’t happen and the relationship goes on and on and somebody is gonna get fired or they’re gonna loose the legislation or the research grant or whatever it just squigs me out. -infidelity-but I think this is nearly universal, seems like a lions share of fans don’t like this -badly defined relationships or relationship on bad premises (e.g. casual, means nothing, friends/enemies with benefits, arrangements to make someone jealous, etc., or whatever or even secret relationships where there is a lot of lying/sneaking around just wears me down/gets on my nerves -toxic/codependent/unequal relationships-I’ve read a couple where Draco lets Hermione walk all over him and takes advantage of him, where he pines for her and worships her and she treats him like garbage and he has zero boundaries or self respect-ugh, eww, I just can’t -certain bashing or if the bashing is too much, especially Ron or Molly. I don’t mind some difficulty but it bothers me when there is no path for redemption. if there is a path for Draco, then why not for Ron? On the other hand, I don’t like it when Ron is completely over the line/toxic (calls her a whore, etc.) and is forgiven too easily or Hermione tries too hard to win him back (as a friend) when really the bridge should be burned. So I guess I’m inconsistent on this

I completely agree with you on your Ron bashing opinion. If it's taken too far, it feels really out of character for Ron and Molly. While Romione will never be endgame in my headcanon, I still believe that they can be good or even best friends and maintain respect for each other.
you know what! i was thinking, oh maybe i have aged as a dramione fan 😂 i'm glad we are on the same page with HEA! i was reading TPW but i was scared of infidelity 😭
@@ireadthisandthat I am not a fan of infidelity in dramione either but I promise that Draco and Hermione’s only infidelity is emotional until….Well, that would be spoiling the story. The writing is incredible. I love the ending and this is my favorite Draco.
In an earlier post on this video, I mentioned a fic that I liked for the element of a featured relationship built between H/D and hermione’s parents (among other reasons ) but couldn’t recall/find the fic title. Found it now: The Nanny by vanminner. I really like the close relationship they have built with the Grangers as well as how integrated they are with the muggle world in this fic. (It also qualifies as a kidfic)
I am the opposite, i love wartime/ voldy wins au fics. The hurt and angst. The ultimate enemies to lovers. Then post war fics, how they start to heal from the war and find each other. Other tropes: alternate dimension, marriage law, the hunger games elements, adventure (hunt/solve mystery) esp if they discover new magic/creatures/places, found family, good slytherins Icks: infidelity, age gap, muggle au, ooc draco/hermione HEA is a must! I justified THAT fic (S&M) as HEA so I can move on 😂 currently reading "I will make you proud" by Wheredoesshego (WIP) and the premise is so sad but I want to know !!

I also don't like 'Mione as a nickname , not only from Draco, but also from other Characters. Currently I'm in the mood of reading single parent Draco, with a bonus of a very adorable Scorpius 😍

I loveeee the secret relationship tropes too 😊 Because there’s nothing like still being at Hogwarts for forced proximity trope which I love. I think I do like some level of angsty/toxic Draco but not for too long. Eventually I want him to be so head over heels Hermione but still (kinda) mean to everyone else. Something that’s very hard for me to get pass besides some of the icks your brought up is when Hermione is too sexual and forward from the get go. Also when she wears clothes that’s too sexy on purpose on her own. I’m ok if Pansy gives her a makeover of course but not if Hermione is already wearing thongs on her own will from the get go 😂 I don’t know but that just feels so out of character for me for some reason. This is a main reason why I couldn’t get past the first few chapters of bring him to his knees. My girl Hermione was acting way too insecure and overly sex kitten if you know what I mean
gurl! you don't know how relieved i felt because i also dnf the fic you mentioned 😭 there was something about hermione's characterization that i can't get past but of course no shade to the author 😭 i wanted to love it so much. i do know what you mean with hermione being prude as a head canon for many fans haha. i think its refreshing to see her being open-minded & forward thinking tho, but i have yet to come by something that was overt sooo. at the same time tho, she can't be too innocent because 🥶😅
I'm reading My Sacrifice to Make right now and the secret relationship part 🫠🫠🫠 it's so good. It's ripping my heart out now that I'm in part 3, but so worth reading it!
