Another hodge podge of crafting today! Check out my friend, Diane H., on You Tube and in her Etsy shop: Etsy: www.etsy.com/s... YT: / paperdima Find me and Gayle's Favorite Things here: www.gayleagost...
I made a 4x4 corrugated cardboard/ring journal before I started watching your videos. I didn't realize I made a "journal" until this video. I am back into crafting after 20 years of raising kids etc.. so fun!
The product is called Kraft-Tex. Great for making journal covers as well as spines. I do watch all of your videos but rarely comment so am one of those who miss out on give always. Thanks for posting daily videos I really look forward to your craft with me and tutorials. Tonia
I love the corrugated cardboard for lines trick. Love learning something new!!! Thanks for sharing. And the journal is beautiful with the distress stains.
Loving how this journal is coming together, Gayle. 😍 I think we should ask Wendy to do a video on how to do rivets! I’m a bit scared of them and the tools are so expensive, I don’t want to get one if it turns out that bashing them with a hammer works better anyway - and I imagine the hammer method is also quite good stress relief. 😬😂
Lasuth82 I was getting ready to do. Readers Digest JJ book for my niece. But it had a Sue Grafton novel I hadnt read yet so I had to read it first. Found 3 at library on sale rack.
Love the turquoise and pink cover. After you did the coffee cup stain I'm yelling...don't add anything, love it just like it is...then you added the others.... I was wrong, you knew what you were doing...love the result!!! Artist know best......😀😀😀
Hello Gayle, Glad the lady was able to go get her cat. I worry about my grandpets as much as grandkids. I simply love to unwind with you. Funny I'm sitting here listening to a huge rainstorm. As the country song goes:," And The Thunder Rolls". We been having lighting storms nightly. But it is the, " Lighting Capital of the U.S.⛈️⚡ I'd love the coffee dying tutorial. You are definitely my go to teacher. So plzzzzz & TY! ❣️💚💜💙
Love love the coffee stain stamping. Changed whole look of cover for sure. I thought - wow do not like those colors but like it now ! Dark stain really made it pop but the gesso really changed it. Will be interesting to see what’s next 👍
I had no idea what a reading book was! Now, I may just have to make one! Thanks for all of your inspiring videos! Watch you mostly in the mornings! You always make my day! Big crafty hugs! 💕 Suzy xx
hi gayle, these hodge podge videos are a lot of fun-enjoy the variety. you might need to add Tim's tiny attacher to your favorites-i sure love mine and use it a lot. thanks for sharing your reading journal-it's awesome! i've been doing journals like this for many years, i call them "Book Reports". i picked up Lisa G. book "Right Behind You" from the library last week-it's SO good! never read her before so thanks for sharing about her. thanks for the fun visit and inspiration. hope the lightning stays away!!
I'm an avid reader and have never kept a reading journal. I definitely need to start one and should make some for my sisters for Christmas! I love reading Nancy Thayer, Laura Hildebrand, Nicolas Sparks, and Barbara Delinsky and so many others....yep, I need a reading journal. I'm retired now, but students in schools should keep a reading journal bc they always have reading recommendations outside of required reading lists.
"Made a mess"....(with the coffee dying)....so funny. I love that method! Then I took it a step further, on some of the 'boring' papers, and splattered, with a brush, some watery white paint. Yee haw...now that is messy!!!!
loved the writing board idea and how to do the lines. Want to make my granddaughter a writing journal and that will be a perfect addition. thanks as usual for all the ideas that you give me.
After all that work distressing that beautiful cover then that gesso messed you up. I loved that Tim Holtz stencil set. I'm loving that your going back to basics so I can learn how to do my journal... ❤️❤️❤️
I like your reading journal very much. I used to keep a list of the books I read but stopped a long time ago. Now you’ve inspired me to start again. Thanks for sharing. Oh my word I must get the Tim Holtz splatters stencil!!
Gayle I hear you when you talk about your crop a dile...I have tried over and over and just can’t get it right.. Love everything you did today as always great ideas❣️
I think you heard me say use the tiny attacher for the tag. 😂 Also, it’s probably just me, but whenever you say, “Yep, yep, yep!” I always think of the little dinosaur in the movie The Land Before Time. 😊
Hi, Gayle. I was interested to see your reading journal, and when I started watching, I recognized it!! Thanks for letting me see how you are using it! Big, big hugs, my friend!!
Gayle, love all of your ideas and videos. Can't wait to start my own reading journal, what a great idea. Thank you for recommending Lisa Gardner. I've already finished Alone and now on to the next one in the series. And I was worried I wouldn't have enough to keep me busy in retirement!
Thank you so much Gayle! Love your reading book, thank you for sharing! ♥️ Playing catch up on all your video's because I got a little behind. It's great to binge watch 🤗🙌
I love your "books read " journal from Diane H whose journals and videos are a must see. You probably will get lots of reading recommendations now. The book you didn't care for--jumped around in time--I LOVE that kind. Will have to check on my kindle. I too feel that I have to finish a book! Also thought TH journaling cards are lovely. I look forward to the GA version. Great video again.
Hi Gayle, this oldie but goodie came up in my phone feed this morning. I read Stuart Woods too.....saw his name in your reading journals. I keep spreadsheets of my often red series novelist for when I go to Half Price Books because I have definitely bought the same book multiple times.
Hi Gayle.. i cant believe noone has help to put to rest the question of what the product the spine you reinforce with was. It is called krafttex..lol. i enjoy watching you videos daily! Thank you so much for your dedication to your RU-vid channel!!
I tried the coffee dying in a tub too and it turned out great! I couldn’t find plastic lace so I used my stencils and bubble wrap. It works and is so much easier than the oven. I watched Midevil Mirage video. Try it, you’ll like it.
I can't resist recommending the author Kate Morton! A friend recommended her to me and I can't put the books down when I am reading them...pulled some all nighters!
Love your reading journal, so glad you shared that, you have inspired me to make one too. If you spray your water soluable products with Workable Fixative by Krylon it seals everything and then you can use wet products on top without smudging, it’s got quite a strong smell unfortunately, I go outside to use it. Thanks for all your inspiration.
Gayle, I’m really loving how MY journal is coming along! I don’t know how you read my mind to make a pink & turquoise mixed media journal! But it is going to looove living in my home! 😜💜💜
Gayle It’s called Krafttex you can get it on Amazon. It comes in Kraft color like you got plus white and Black I think it might come in other colors too.I’ve also gotten it at Walmart.
Thanks for the book recommendations. I've been looking for something new to read. Love how you put everything to use, even packaging. Thought it was only me lol xx
Dean kootz! I've read quite a few of his books, although I can honestly say I can't remember which ones apart from fear nothing,I think there's 2 books if I remember correctly, brilliant!
If you lightly spray your art surface with Rust-O-Leum Clear Matte sealer, it will seal your work and if you wanted to use another product over that, your inks won’t smear, but you would want to spray it outside. Fairly strong fumes
Agree about Life after Life, I couldn't get into it at all. Her other Jackson Brodie books are excellent, especially the most recent. Will need to look into Lisa Gardner!
As I said, I’m binge watching you. I watched you use the gesso and saw what it did to your stamping. I wonder if you could use paste wax....put it on, wait for it to dry and then buff it off. It would make it smooth, rather than rough. I think it would be good to protect the cover and the slick feel might be great.
Okay. I just ordered Never Tell. I like good crime writers, detective novels with an edge. She sounds like My type of writer. Gayle, You should totally try reading Minette Walters. She's a very edgy intelligent & surprising British crime writer. The Scold's Bridle or The Sculptress would be the best starting points with Her books. I promise You You'll be impressed & surprised. I've read all Her books & She is just such a perceptive & clever storyteller. The Scold's Bridle blew My mind completely.
Awesome how this turned out. Can't believe you didn't hear me shout "Nooooooooooo...spray a light fixative before coating or those wonderful coffee stains will go away!" My hubby ran into the room to see if something was wrong. LOL Yup, I'm one of those subbies that answer your questions and advise you on color choices. I so enjoy your videos. TFS
Peggy B Ha ha I was thinking I have several books that have same coffee stains that I have on nightstand and set my coffee on them... I am messy with my coffee lol. Cool effects the cover before collaged reminded me of some dress material I had as a kid. Really got a 50s retro vibe going on....💕💕💕💕 it!
I’m a new viewer/ subscriber and I’ve been binge watching all of your videos. I. Ant wait to make my first proper journal. Thanks for sharing all your ideas and knowledge with us. Especially us newbies!! Also, I looked up what the material that was used on the two horse logo on Levi jeans. Since stepping away from leather, it looks like the use something called Jacron Labels. Made From A Soft Faux-Suede Material.✨🤗✨
It’s ok, Gayle! Maybe you should just do mixed media all over your table top then when you accidentally lay your ink pad upside down or get your stamp stamped on your table top you will have a work of art! I wonder how a digital of your book cover would turn out?
Love this cover. Glad you said you didn't like it. I would never have said it but I didn't either however now with the stamping and inking......I really like it! See you need to just keep layering. Thanks Gayle!! Great projects!
Gayle, Lisa Gardner is a favorite author of mine also, and your recommendation will get her books even more popular. I use the audio books from the library and listen while I sew and craft. I can do both. Your projects are always so educational. Thanks.
The journal is looking good. My husband and I go to WW meetings. They give us weekly cards with recipes, etc. I do with them each week what you did on the Tim Holtz packaging cards. Love the size for collaging!
🤗 wonderful It’s coming together for you. Of course it is...everything you touch looks great 👍🏼 Lol still liked the yellow it would of looked great with the coffee spills and spots. Hugs always.
Hi Gayle , new subbie here ! I am new to Journal making and I have been watching your videos and they have helped very much and I have learned a lot !! tfs x
What a beautiful journal this is. Love how you utilize packaging. Now I see junk mail etc in a different light. Prayers to those who are displaced by the fires. I would not mind seeing you coffee due paper using Medieval Mirage's technique. Love the corrugated cardboard for writing lines. Going to try it.
